Toronto Goodjer Meetups

This month is going to be hard for me to commit to anything, if you guys do pick a date though I may try to make myself available it will just be more last minute for me.

It’s not a great time of year for me, but let me check with the wife and see what I can make happen. The after-kid-bedtime stuff will help the sales pitch.

Yes, I understand, the kid thing does make it harder, for sure! No worries, just keep us posted!

I'm lucky to have older kids now, definitely.

A Doodle Poll

So only 4dswisscheese has responded to the doodle.

We are both pretty flexible, but let's narrow it down to two choices. This Friday (Oct18th) or next Friday (Oct 25th).

Anyone else coming out? Either of those work for you?

I may be able to on the 25 the but won't know for sure until Tuesday. Don't rely on me though just go whenever is best for everyone else. Im flakey for that week at best.

Hey guys. I would like to go I’m just not the most social person. As long as it’s safe enough for a transgender person like me to go I can do the 25th. Also I haven’t kept up with this thread so where would we be meeting?

Why don't we try for the 25th, then, since the 18th is a bit short notice by this point?

gamerparent proposed ZED80 as our location (note it requires advanced sign-up Edit: Can buy ahead of time or at the door). I haven't been there myself and so can't vouch for it. In looking around online I don't see them having any specific inclusionary policies but also didn't see anything that raised a red flag for me (I'm non-binary myself and so while my concerns are likely not identical to yours in this context, I do try to keep an eye out.) If you have any concerns with the choice of the location either leading up to meeting, or even once we're already there, I will back you 100% in finding somewhere else more comfortable for us to hang out at.

Yay! It looks like the 25th is the day for everyone so far, so let's set it!

I was thinking to go to ZED80at 185 Danforth, which is a retro arcade bar near Broadview, just east of Danforth Music Hall. You can TTC or drive and park around there if you like, but you might not get a spot close, the area can be pretty busy on Friday night.

All the games are Free to Play, and there's a cover charge which changes depending on what time you go.

from 5pm to 8pm it's $5.84, and then after 8pm it's $15 for the VIP tickets.

So we could go hang out, play games, sit and have bar food, beers, that kind of thing. If we can get in before 8 it would be cheaper? My bedtime is around 10:30 lol FYI. Does 7pm work for everyone?

Tickets can be purchased from the website in advance, or you can pay at the door.

@Moe Bear, thanks for replying! I would hope that it's a safe environment there, I think Danforth is pretty chill.

@4dSwissCheese you beat me to the post!

It's recommended to buy advance tickets but you can pay at the door.

I asked them on fb and this is the reply:

We definitely consider ourselves a safe space. Feel free to use whatever washroom you wish, our policy as listed on the site and door say we're a safe space so if someone makes you uncomfortable let us know. Also just so you know first Saturday of every month is queer arcade night.

Do you happen to know if we have to pay for parking or how much? 7pm would work for me, would probably head down right after work from Markham.

Didn't realize this was right down town so I'm always a bit nervous city driving but it sounds like a day for getting out of my comfort zone. I think I'll probably hold off on advanced tickets unless I can get them Wednesday. I just don't want to buy one now to find out I can't go.

I am also 100% down for moving to another location if someone is made to feel uncomfortable.

@Rave

Yes you would have to pay for parking. It's street parking on Danforth if you can find a spot, pay by the hour (probably $3/hr?) And there's a Green P lot behind the Shoppers across the street.

Also - the facebook response I got was from the bartender Brock, who in addition to being super helpful with my questions, let me know that he is queer but unfortunately won't be working next Friday. I think the vibe should be cool.

Ok thanks gamerparent I'll figure it out I suppose. Thanks for arranging everything by the way.

@Gamerparent and 4dSwissCheese

Thank you guys. I would be staying at a friends in Toronto myself. Just a quick question is the sign up as a group? I got confused at what you meant. It’s easier if I can just pay at the door but if I have to do some online scheduling I can.

No it's not as a group, it's individual.

You can definitely pay at the door, I believe they encourage advance tickets so they have an idea of numbers.

Note that the ticket is for a specific day, so you would be buying for Oct 25

It's all explained on their website.

Gamerparent sorry for playing 20 questions I haven't looked to deeply at the site but it appears when booking we pick the date. What time are we paying for though since we are meeting at 7 I assume it's the 8 time slot? Not sure if it's 6$ or 15$.

Sorry I know you are not the authority on this I can figure it out if you aren't sure.

No worries.

I actually asked that same question to them.

If you are coming for 7PM, you pay the cover for that time slot, you don't pay the 8PM and after price. You can stay as long as you want, and you don't have to pay again. so for us it would be $6

Awesome thanks! I think I roped Salvation into going (he rarely is on the boards) if I go.

I’m excited then for the 25th. Be my first outing in a long time hopefully we get a good turn out. I may be a tad bit later so might have to pay the $15 but either way I don’t mind.
