Man, none of the applicants are grinders. That would've made it a lot easier.

How could you miss me? I had the worst of the worst team of ragamuffins to ever overachieve into the playoffs. Of course I'm back next year! Gah. Is that 'registration' or do I have to fill out some strange form somewhere while plastering my SSN# all over it?

It's not your fault. I tend to pretend the metroplex doesn't exist.

Just looking at potential keepers, even before the draft I'm going to call it right now. I will be very surprised if Grump doesn't go undefeated.

He got some huge deals, especially off the waiver wire/adds. I wouldn't go crowning him just yet, but most of us have a long way to go to catch up to him in overall talent.

Now that I look, though...

Michael Vick - $26(claim) - $39 (at %50 increase) - Vick should be good, but that's a lot of moolah
Joe Flacco - $6 - $9. eh... maybe. Not a huge deal if he keeps, though.
Brandon Lloyd - $1(add) - $6 HUGE PICKUP
Arian Foster - $23 - $30 Big discount on a top 3 runningback (projected)
Steve Johnson -$1(add) - $6 Another big WR discount from free agency

Larry Fitzgerald -$36 - $47 - that's a steep price to keep even a lead receiver
Eagles D - inflation probably keeps him from taking the D, but with how they look on paper, who knows?
Reggie Bush - $7 - $10 - maybe, not a great deal
Tim Hightower - $5(base) - $10(at $5 increase) - not a deal, prob would not keep
Chris Ivory - $1(add) - $6 - not a deal, prob would not keep
Andre Johnson - $52 - $68 - that's a steep price to keep even a lead receiver

I've bolded the big pickups. I didn't list anyone else on the team that isn't even a question. With his two big WR pickups and the Arian Foster pick he'll have an extra pile of money to play with, but I don't think it's THAT much more than other smart managers in the league will have. (edit: ok, it will probably be $20 - $35 more than other managers). He could possibly keep a couple other players, but if he does it's just to lock them up, he won't be getting more money back to use elsewhere.

It's an advantage, but how often has your first round pick in a draft turned out to be a bust? That's all it would take to bring him back down to our level.

Sent a PM to EvilHomer3k and posted on his Steam profile. If we don't see him soon, I guess we'll be filling two slots...

I can't find the rule that was made for picking up dropped players. I see some initial discussion here. But nothing final. I am against getting people who were drafted for a bargain price after a change in rules. If they were drafted and dropped they are worth the price paid in the auction. There is no reason they should be steals since guys like Romo and Clark are known commodities, not steals you pick up off of waivers. But if that's the rule I'll let it go. Some of my disagreement with this stems from the rule not being there at the start of the year. The error should fall on the side of people going back to the pool and not people getting top players cheap.

I don't care what is decided on the keeper calculations but it should not change from year to year. If a change needs to be made it should be made a year before it takes affect. I didn't see this thread until Grumpicus PMed me. I'm surprised discussion about rules is still going on. Again, if we can't get rules in place we should err on the side of them going back into the pool.

Finally, the next two weeks are absolutely brutal for me. I have three FFL drafts the weekend of the 28th and a Taekwondo black belt test and wedding on the 19th and 20th and then will be with family on the 21st. I could do something on the 27th or other days, though. Even getting stuff put into the computer to "draft" for me would be difficult to do before the 28th.

I probably could be more diplomatic but I'm too tired to find my sugar-coating, so here it is. Everyone else managed to maintain enough interest so as to find the thread without a personal invitation (though I did extend one on the final day in a last, desperate attempt). EvilHomer3k didn't post before the deadline and officially, we have two slots to fill. PM me your opinion/vote on whether we fill the first slot with one of the folks who met the deadline or if we bring EvilHomer3k back.

As for the keeper pricing rules, I've been digesting your input and running numbers as opportunity allows. I hope to have a post on that matter tomorrow. Sorry for the delay. Feel free to have a vote of no confidence if someone else wants to take over.

For the record, I prefer to have the draft as late as possible - optimally, have all the preseason games are played - so as to reduce the risk anyone losing someone they drafted before the player has even played a game. Preseason ends on 9/2 and week 1 starts on 9/8.

If you couldn't be arsed to find the thread before the deadline, I'm not sure you should be weighing in on the rules discussion the rest of us have had the interest to participate in.

Along those same lines, I say the rules are what they are, and give the slot to someone who actually has interest in the league (i.e. those who bothered to post before the deadline/didn't need a personal invitation to find the thread).

No worries, there has been a lot of discussion to digest and a lot of valid points were made. While whatever decision you make may not make everyone happy, I don't think anyone's going to take their ball and go home over it (at least I'd hope not). I believe we discussed last year that this was very much a learn-as-you-go sort of thing, and that rules would need to be firmed up or adjusted as needed along the way.

I'm in full agreement with having the draft as late as possible- nothing's worse than paying a ton for a supposed stud just to see him injured in a meaningless preseason game.

I believe there were two people who asked about getting in before the deadline so feel free to give them the slot. If one of them bows out I'll take that slot. It's not a big deal. I didn't post by the cutoff date and they did so that's the only reason needed. There's no need to sugar coat it nor is there any need to get snarky about it.

Oh, yes, let the reign of Emperor Legion begin ... We're all doomed.

While I respect EvilHomer3k's attitude and understanding, I'm still looking for feedback on what y'all want to do. In the redraft leagues, I just stick to the letter of the law (for various reasons) but this being a keeper league, things are a bit different. I've heard from a couple folks (and it's pretty evenly divided) but I want to hear from the rest of you. Since it's getting late(r), I'm also looking for your thoughts on who should fill Boogle's slot and, if you think we should get new blood in the second slot as well, who should it be?

oldmanscene24
Lars
Pigpen

Seriously, send me your feedback (on both slots, please).

The two that posted first.

...and I honestly don't care about what the decision is on the whole FA stuff. It honestly hurts my head. Obviously, if I were to just sit back and look at it objectively, I would have to say that FA pickups that were dropped should be based on what they cost in the original draft. This was their going rate when dropped. Those that dropped in order to pick up and stockpile players on the cheap for the next season seem to have followed the letter of the rule, but definitely not the spirit of it.

Do I read any slots opened up...Sent you a PM Grumps...any openings in this premier league for me to get back in?

And of note...i'd be a returning member from the first season this league started (thought it was this one)...just sayin' as I try to make my case

Think we drafted at Certis' house wayyy back many moons ago

Pigpen wrote:

Per an earlier post of Grump's, the number of available slots is being determined. It will be either one or two, depending on the decision made regarding EvilHomer3k's team.

Pigpen wrote:

Last season was the first season for this keeper league. Just noting my devotion and attentiveness in making my case.

Pigpen, as I mentioned by email/PM, there's still a slot in the redraft league if you want in over there.

There is at least one slot open in this one for three applicants. EvilHomer3k missed the registration deadline by less than a day and so the owners are deciding what to do with his slot.

Speaking of which, if you're a current owner and you haven't PM'd me your opinion on these two issues, you're adding to my collection of gray hairs.

Time, as for many on these boards, is at a premium these days - so I've done away with all of my past redraft leagues and just devote my FFL time to Keeper/long term leagues. Would love to join you in the Keeper realm, but will have to pass on the redraft league, if that logic makes sense. Just let me know

I have asked my fiance if she is interested, and if so, we'll co-own a team (she gets the GM nod) and put our name in, if that slot remains in the redraft league.

On the professional football side of things...the Bengals are, of course, in training camp here in Georgetown, and the coaches all come up to the bar where my fiance works, so we sit around at nights drinking away with them to the wee hours of the morning. Such nice folks, who you genuinely just want to hug every time they walk in...purely a sympathy hug, because my God, this team will be lucky to pick up a couple wins this year...ouch... And after the Detroit Lions pre-season game...I wanted to give them hugs AND buy them many shots in an effort to dull the pain...

You'll be wanting to post in this thread, and soon.

This is the final call for opinions regarding the two slots under consideration. Please send your thoughts on 1) who should take over Boogle's team and 2) who, including EvilHomer3k himself, should be tapped to manage the Flaming Homers. There are still a few that I haven't heard from in either regard. I'll assess the "votes" and make the hard choices tomorrow afternoon. Thanks.

Any more news here? Mainly about owners and/or inflation rules?

Looking forward to a little bit of pre-planning going into this draft. When will we have to declare our keepers? Will it be a blind declaring (all revealed at once) or will we be able to edit our list at all after seeing who everyone else is keeping/not keeping?

Keep the discussion alive! Viva la GWJFFLK!

Sorry for sucking. Admittedly, this thread has gone to the point of causing me dread. As much as I may be a Grump, I'm not looking forward to disappointing folks. It's a weak excuse, I know, but every time I sit down to make the post, I find other distractions to aid my procrastination. Bleah.

On the matter of finding new management for "Weekend at Bernie Mac's," Oldmanscene24 was the overwhelming favorite due to various reasons including, but not limited to, his history with the GWJFFL and, in the case of at least one owner, the fact that he posted first.

...

On the matter of EvilHomer3k having missed the registration deadline, things were a little less clear-cut. GWJFFLK is a 12 team league. Not counting EvilHomer3k, Boogle (obviously), or myself, there remain 9 managers eligible to comment. Of those 9, 8 provided their opinions and 1 abstained (i.e. failed to participate. ). In the end, by a vote of 5 to 3, it was decided to place the Flaming Homers under new management, assuming a suitable party can be found. The potential manager receiving the second most votes was Lars.

I suggest the name Lars and the Flaming Homers. Good luck, Lars!

Oldmanscene24 reminded me of this important point...

In the first post, I wrote:
New owners will be offered, in the descending points order, their choice of rosters from the ones that were abdicated.

...and have selected the Flaming Homers.

Sorry for the confusion.

Edit: It looks like Lars has read his PM, but hasn't sent me an email address yet. I hope to hear from him soon.

It is a pleasure and an honor to be selected. Thank you to all who voted for me. I look forward to making you regret the decision when I win the championship.

Grump, thank you for honoring my team selection. I will decide on a suitable name soon.

Thanks for allowing me to play with you all. I'll try not to beat your asses TOO much.

How about "Lars and the Real Homer"?

I like, and I get it.

Homer, thanks for being cool through this process.
