Dungeon Defenders

Respecs don't get any cheaper. Your mana income just increases exponentially as your level goes up and you start playing on higher difficulties.

Guess you main respec are cheap at higher level..?

But, about this build thing, what do you suggest for an Apprentice and a Squire?

I'm at the Throne room now, doing them on easy to level up, and see a little more.

Which build thing? Each map you can try something different. For me, a lot of the fun was trying out new things. But I will suggest that Magic Missiles and Harpoon Turrets are my two favorite ways of dealing with wyverns. On Hard maps you may need to use Deadly Strikers to one-hit them.

Experience on easy is less than medium, and so on. If you don't find losing once in a while too frustrating, I'd suggest trying everything out on medium.

He's asking about character builds.

So what Warhound was saying was about weapon builds vs tower builds.

You could pump everything into hero damage, hero attack speed, etc. as you level up. Then once you hit 70, you can respec and put them back into tower damage, range, speed.

Apprentices are a very good "tower build" character. Mine has 60-70 hero points in most tower categories, and with gear, 140-170 in those categories. He's still a decent fighter with 20 points + gear in the hero categories, but that's still a lot because of the awesome staff I have on him. And really it's just enough points so that I can keep him out during a group fight and get the tower bonus. He might slightly be better than my Huntress Hero DPS build overall because of that. But if I'm playing solo, I usually still pull her out for combat phase.

Guess I'll raise my little apprentice more tower inclined.

I love those electric tower, the sound they make, and the AOE they seems to do.

The apprentice is currently level 21.

The Squire is like level 13. Tho, at what level do I get those Bowling Tower? (Saw them do crazy damage) and as well, the rotating tower with swords on it?

Thanks.

Is there any kind of general guide to this game anywhere? I feel like I'm missing something key.

Nah and there's a million ways to do things.

For instance, Mantid and I usually put down barricades, with auras right beside them, and a bunch of turrets around a map to focus on the barricade killzones.

But I played a couple rounds with Warhound, and he used no barricades at all. Added some traps into the mix with the auras, and only a couple turrets for wyverns. Basically all traps/auras, and everything died with no need for the barricades to hold them back.

Two very different styles, but both were effective enough. I've also seen some traps only setups on particular maps, like the Thanksgiving one.

The game can be won in a lot of different ways. Most of the stuff I am talking about were optimal strategies for hard/insane. If you play on Easy/Medium, you can fumble through the main campaign trying almost anything.

See that's the thing, I can't get past the 2nd level on Medium with my Squire. The ogre just destroys me.

Level 15 for Slice-n-Dice blockades. If you want to level up, do the first level on Hard, put up spike blockades at the bottom of the stairs with bowling balls behind them, then spikes with harpoons up top. Do it a couple times, and you'll be high enough level to move on. The Slice-n-Dice/Bowling Ball combo is pretty ridiculous on any stairs/ramps.

Ok, is that what I'm missing? I should increase the difficulty on earlier levels instead of moving on? I'll give that a shot tonight.

It's an easy way to level up, at least. When I played through the first time on the 360, I built up my squire and apprentice to a certain point to where I could switch back and forth between them, depending on the towers I needed. I'm a bit backwards in that I prefer the squire for towers and apprentice for combat. Anyways, try what I listed above a couple times for the squire, and then do it again for the apprentice; I think when I re-did it recently thanks to getting it again on PC (thanks again, Niseg), my apprentice shot up to I think level 9 in one shot when playing the first level on Hard. Built all the towers with the squire, switched for combat, would switch back if I needed more building. Fast way to do it.

Oh yes, sorry. For leveling up solo you want to repeat the levels you've already completed. You could always hop in a run with one of us 70+ guys and gain 10 levels in a run or something. But if you want to level yourself, repeating easy levels on hard can do it.

If you're just going to level one character though, Warhound was right above. Build for hero dps so you can stay out there and fight. Your structures will probably just be a supplement to you for a while.

Ok great, that's a lot of help. I should've specified I've been playing solo so far.

Greg: For the Ogre at your level you want a tower build character. Particularly with points it tower health and tower attack. Build some towers to hold the ogre back (spike) and then use some to damage it (harpoon/bowling ball).

I think my first run through (admittedly with a team) we used two bouncer blockades at each choke point. And then some apprentice towers. but you can use harpoon turrets there instead. Something like this:

http://html5.cubicleninja.com/dd/ind...

If you can you want to make sure your harpoons are out of the ogres swing range, but still can hit the ogre. If you can lure the ogre accurately, you can even stack your defenses more to one side (extra turrets/towers) to take the ogre down faster.

Also, don't forget to upgrade your towers. That will make the blockades last a bit longer!

Started a Steam Group called "Dungeon Defenders Open" - For Honest Open players. If you're on Open, join the group

I figured out my problem...playing as Apprentice. Switched to Squire and everything just felt right. I had a ton of fun this morning just playing the first level on Hard.

Fiancee has agreed to switch to Trendy. So will be doing lots of leveling over the next few days. Who wants to help?

Started playing this tonight for about an hour. Enjoying it so far. I got my Apprentice up to level 6, spending most of the hour learning the mechanics of the game. I'd like to get in some co-op with this, if anyone is interested in teaching me a few things, send me a FR on Steam.

Could I get an invite to the GWJ-DD group please. Been playing a buttload of this since the Xmas Steam sale.

Sent. As you linked your profile in the Magicka's thread.

Someone in the Steam Group mentioned the idea of a game night. Is that still of interest?

Personally, I'm trying to get my first level 74 character which means 6 or more glitter insane runs since I can't do it well enough to make 2m per run. (No core damage? Heh, not with my stats).

Stuck on level 71, can't quite get the impetus to keep going atm. Melee/tank squire. Building a tower mage instead atm to help.

Ivor and I gonna do something *right now*

We did something right then, was good.

I'm beyond late to this party, but would anyone be interested in doing some runs of this game with a complete newb? The fiancee is away so most days during this week are good for me if anyone's interested.

I am interested (work Wednesday and Saturday nights, but not too much homework for this week) and I am http://steamcommunity.com/id/silentsod

Feel free to add me, I like helping new players out: http://steamcommunity.com/id/NikkiLott

I also like helping more experienced players out too. I've got 5 level 70+ characters and have been working through NM maps for the challenge, so whatever you need I can probably help with.

Patch with new character yesterday. DLC of course. And another DLC mission pack.

And another patch today. Looks like they're back to the daily patch waves.

Yay, they made pets in NM awesome!

Hey all, I just picked up DD and am enjoying it quite a bit. can I get an invite into the GWJ-DD Group?
