Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Catch-All

For the record, here is the list of games that Edge has awarded a 10/10 over the 18 years it's been in print....

* Grand Theft Auto IV (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360)
* LittleBigPlanet (PlayStation 3)
* Bayonetta (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360)

Bad streak there, haha.

Don't you speak poorly of Bayonetta, damnit.

Those other two were clearly some kind of UK bias.

Anyway, I would suggest anyone looking forward to Skyward Sword ***NOT*** read the posted Edge review. I find my excitement for MW3 and Skyrim next week dwindling because the reviewer made Zelda sound like some kind of life altering experience.

I don't know what you mean... every Zelda is a life-altering experience!

I like your icon. I am inspired to do some photoshopping oh my own that pales in comparison to yours.

Oh.... yes, totally photoshopped and not actually just cropped from an actual comic! NO SIREE!

On an unrelated note... Can i justify buying a Wii for just this game? I'm tempted!! Either way, i'll get the game but maybe wait for the console to get another price cut (i reckon one is coming for christmas to shift a lot of units or maybe even around the Wii slim release or Wii U).

Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Metroid Prime 3, Okami if you've never played that. Don't think of it as buying a Wii for just one game; think of it as buying a Wii for 3-4 games!

Or possibly look around for a decently priced used one. Or ask around and see if anyone wants to sell theirs.

Haha, well, technically i already own Okami on the Wii (i bought it in anticipation of not being able to buy it when i eventually purchased a Wii) and it's currently at a friend's house.

As for Wii's... well, that family is the only one that i know has a Wii. I am pretty much the only gamer within my circle of friends and the one person in work who has a console is a bit of a snob... he's a PS3 fanboy and is against every other platform (including PC) as "inferior". Yeah...

Metroid prime 3 i have somewhere too, not sure if that's at my friend's or at home in the UK. I'll have to have a look for that. I wasn't that impressed with it when i put it in at an old friend's Wii when i was at Uni a few years ago... Nothing special, especially when compared to the original Prime. Mario Galaxy i don't have so might be interesting to pick that up.

There's actually a bunch of games that are really good for the Wii, so buying it just for the 3 "big hitters" doesn't make sense to me, unless your tastes are really just that specific. Sin and Punishment is a fantastic shmup, HOTD: OK is a hoot to play through, Punch Out is a worthy update of the old title, and so on.

I actually played a bit of WSR the other night rather than advance further on in Batman AC, but that's me.

Wii slim? There will be no Wii slim.

Huh? It went on sale 3 weeks ago.

Although the sales listing is quite deceptive and barely mentions it down in the specs:

The newly configured black Wii console is designed exclusively for Wii game play and entertainment experiences (Nintendo GameCube software and accessories are not supported)

The hell? How have I managed to not hear about this? My bad. Carry on.

Punch-Out!! is one of my favorite Wii games. Dead Space Extraction is a lot of fun for a light gun game. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is one of my favorite gaming experiences of the past few years. Super Paper Mario was a lot more fun to me than New Super Mario Bros. Wii. And a few other games that were great that I can't recall at the moment.

Unfortunately, the first Metroid Prime and first Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee for the original GameCube are better than their Wii counter-parts (I'd offer up Metroid: Other M, but I seem to be in the minority over that game and its bad ass gameplay).

Yes. This is the project my work has been doing for the past month. *cough*blue color*cough*

The biggest problem with it is that you can no longer use the GameCube controller or play any of the discs. So if you don't want to use any of those things, then this console is for you!

EDIT: If you want to play all the fantastic Wii games - even those that are completely under-rated - I can put up a list of the ones that are definitely worth playing.

There are definitely some solid games for the Wii, and some really great suggestions were offered up. The two Kirby games are quite good, and especially fun if you have another person to play with, although they're not really that challenging. The system has a great set of 2D/3D platforming games if that's your cup of tea. Also, Twilight Princess was a good Zelda game and you can get that for $20 now if you end up liking Skyward Sword.

I'll second the recommendation of Other M. "Badass gameplay" is right.

I actually thought that Wii model was only for regions outside NA, I never even saw anything saying it was coming to NA. Also, I really wish they didn't have to make their user manuals in 3 languages for NA, thus making them seem 3x as big as they should be. But I also realize it helps solve distribution and some other issues.

It should be for Europe, actually. So perhaps it is coming to the NA region soon.

Anyone else remember when manuals were 20+ pages and weren't in multiple languages?

Hmm... Interesting...

I follow Nintendo of America on Twitter, and they haven't said a peep about the Wii Slim, which is why I was so surprised to find out that it exists.

Well it's really a useless piece of hardware. And releasing with the WiiU on the horizon is just going to be more confusing to people. Just like the DSi and DSiXL encroached on the 3DS. Stupid Nintendo lately.

I'll agree with the naming stupidity of DS/3DS and Wii/WiiU.... However, the Wii slim is quite good - for Nintendo, definitely but also potentially for the consumer. I mean, for Nintendo it's cheaper to produce and thus has the opportunity for them to make more money. They also have the potential to drop the price on the Wii again in time for Christmas.... Remember the $99 PS2? I'm sure Nintendo would like a slice of that action.

Late to the party, but is Amazon just not selling the bundle with the controller? It doesn't seem to be on their site.

I don't actually want a gold controller, but I don't have motion plus on any of my wiimotes, so there's no reason not to spend the extra $20 to get it in controller form. Too bad about the color.

They were. It could be sold out now?

Stele wrote:

According to GoNintendo's daily deal report, it's no longer offered at Amazon. All other expected outlets have it for pre-order.

Boo. Stupid hardware requirement. The Motion Plus is required for this one, right?

Oh, wait, looks like Amazon has the add-on thing for $17. That works fine.
