You forgot “Winter Vortex.”

Polar. Polar Vortex.

They make that sh*t in Worcester.

I forgot is was Polar Vortex.

Honestly, I can’t keep up with all of these melodramatic names for “snow” the weather channel comes up with just so they can sell more State Farm insurance ads.

I admit, when I saw "Bomb cyclone", my first thought was "When did buzzfeed start doing articles on weather?"

excuse me but I demand recognition for my witty Polar reference

He's waving at you, Ed!

I pretended for a moment that for some weird impossible reason Massachusetts didn't end at 495, you people owe me.

Holed up for Blizzard presented by Mountain Dew:

Anyone playing any good games? I went back to Wolfenstein 2 after bouncing off of it when it first came out.

I wish. My job is such that I can work from home, so that's what I'm unfortunately doing today. Later: the Most Fun Game Of All, shoveling snow off the driveway. I might get some time to play Prey later though if I'm lucky.

With a snowblower, I don't necessarily mind going out to clear snow. The only trick is the timing, since I don't want to go out before it stops, but I also have to leave by 6:15a tomorrow, and I hate to be the guy running the snow blower at 5:30a. I'll do it if I need to though, my neighbors sure have.

What's less fun is I have to wade out to my garage to swap the battery on my car at some point today.

I moved into my first house last Thursday. This is quite a welcome. I've been clearing the driveway every 2 hours so far, to avoid heavy loads later.

Congrats Blind_Evil, and condolences on the shoveling. I hope we can finally move to a house in the next year or so. It’s been a long time coming.

You're a better man than me. I got a big snowblower specifically so I could wait until it was done and go out once.

My "how much snow" measurement is how much of my basement office window the snow blocks. Right now, it's 1/4 of the way up the bottom half. So that's "some", but we're not to "holy crap" yet.

I have a shovel and a leaf blower. I've got this covered.

Gonna play some games. Probably get going in Obduction again. Really enjoyed playing it a bit last night.

Congrats Blind_Evil! We just moved into our first house last Wednesday. I just came in from doing the exact same thing. When you have to shovel, it's always good to do smaller amounts more often than a ton all at once.

I wish I had a snowblower. This driveway is not long, but it's a lot longer than you think when it's covered with a ton and a half of snow.

I've put several hours into Star Traders: Frontiers - my smuggler is making slow but steady progress, though I'm a bit annoyed that I've yet to get another Smuggler contact for Black Market access.

Ain't that the truth. Same boat here, driveway isn't huge but I've been out there 4 times now. I'm gonna get a smaller snowblower before next winter.

Congrats to you too d4m0!

Seaport is kinda moist right now (h/t to Clumber for the link). Looks like it'll take a while to clean up. Hope nobody got stuck in that.

Must have missed this one. Looks good!

Good luck to everyone who has to travel tomorrow. Hope they got the roads treated quick enough to keep it from being an ice rink out there.

All you hearty New Englanders with your snow blowers! I shovel the driveway, like God intended!

I shoveled the first snowfall we were in this house. I figured the driveway wasn't that big, I don't need no snowblower.

That first snow was 6" of heavy, wet snow. The driveway was way bigger than it looks. We went out and got a snowblower the next weekend. Now that we've had the driveway repaved and added more surface area, I'm even more glad to have it.

I bought a snow blower as soon as I moved in to my current house. Huge driveway (almost 3 cars wide, almost 2 cars long, but can somehow only fit two cars), long sidewalk, extra wide walk to the front door, and a fire hydrant to keep clear. Without it, I'd probably have moved. On top of that the town road crew apparently thinks that since I live on a small road, they only have to plow two thirds of the road (and it's always my side of the road they don't do)*.

On the plus side, with the snowblower, I don't mind cutting dog trails through the back yard for my gang.

*To cope with this I picture getting told by anyone that I'm not allowed to snowblow my driveway into the road, upon which I maniacally cackle and reply I'm snowblowing the road into the road.

Just shoveling out my car parked on the street took about two hours this morning. It didn’t help that a big chunk was what the plow pushed toward it from the street. It made me wish I had a snow blower.

Snow blowers are great, but even they have a hard time with compacted snow plow drifts.

If it's any sympathy it took Demyx and I about 2.5 hours to shovel out our cars starting around 5 PM last night.

There's five of us in our house, so if we're all out shoveling it doesn't take long. The apartment complex pushes the snow from their lot into our front yard, so there is about eight feet of snow bank on one side of our driveway and four on the other side.

You’ve got my sympathies shop. I’m thankful that I got to do it in the morning before the temperature really started dropping.
