Boston, MA Area GwJr's

Too bad it closes horribly early (11p on Thur/Fri/Sat), but might be a decent place to get together for board gaming during the day on the weekends.

I'd also be totally down for this.

Would anyone in the area (thinking 1-2 people, max) be potentially interested in playing in a Call of Cthulhu campaign? In-person, roughly once/month, with an emphasis on a relatively purist gameplay style (e.g., as opposed to pulp).

Drop me a PM if that might be your cup of tea.

Yes, potentially, depending on time/location. I haven't RPed since red box D&D back in grade school. I accept death or insanity as a given.

It would be nice to do something before PAXeast so I'm not completely lost running around trying to find people that I only know by a forum icon.

I've never done CoC RPG, but I'd be down for a few sessions.

Hey gravity, found the perfect shirt/avatar design for you.

YES!!!!! MUST ORDER SHIRT!

Also, I wish I could play in a CoC campaign, but with a baby on the way I don't think I can. I'd love to do a one-shot sometime if that'd ever happen though.

Doh It was #13 in the last derby, so no shirt unless they have another "rerun derby". Although that wouldn't stop the original artist from submitting it somewhere else.

Curses! Foiled again! I guess I'll have to be content with the same old shirt I've had forever.

Any news on that beer hall idea? That sounds awesome. I guess Game Over is trying to have their weekly gaming nights at Mead hall now, but I've been to a few of those, and the crowd didn't really seem very nice. Took my fiancee, and the guys basically bitched her out. So it would be good to have a gaming meet up without the "gamers against girls" brigade. I'm based in Somerville and it would be great to meet up with some Boston goojers. What are people playing at the moment?

Really whatever people bring. I usually grab zombie dice, epic spell wars and ascension. We have a few wargamers and no real Goodjer official RP.

As for how those dudes acted, we are decidedly NOT like that.

Good to know as one of my friends was suggesting we check this out. Definitely not interested in checking it out now.

Yeah, life's too short to perpetuate the "fake gamer girl" meme. All it does is hurt people and the industry, and show how little some boys can be.

Not to mention that, like Sasquatch and Santa Claus, there is no such thing as a fake gamer girl.

I'm totally down for something next weekend or any weekend after that up until PAX.

I think we're busy every weekend for the rest of the month

Btw, do we have a list of actual locations of us Boston Goodjers? I living in Franklin - and usually it is only wife and kids preventing me from going further than my house - LOL

I don't think this was true until Snowpocalypse '13 decided to eat a weekend with its snowy, snowy maw.

Stay safe, everyone!

I just hope the power holds so I can play Ni no Kuni...

This was about a page ago, but I'll reiterate.

I was hoping someone else might step up to the reigns for a future board-game night, but it looks like I can just default to that. I need feedback from you guys to help me figure this out.

What upcoming weekend works best for everyone?
What neighborhood/venue works well for everyone?

It looks like The Mead Hall is an option.

Would a SurveyMonkey poll or Google Doc encourage people to provide feedback on organizing an upcoming tabletop/boardgame S&T?

I am just south of you very close to the Battlegrounds Store. I know someone else was not too far away.

So it looks like for those near Plainville, MA, Battlegrounds is running a Pathfinder Society event every Sunday from like 2-6pm. I haven't been yet but may try to swing by this Sunday (weather permitting). Also they have Open gaming on Saturdays all day. I would be intersted in trying to set up an RPG group here on Sat nights or Sat mornings if the Pathfinder thing doesn't work out.

I am so unfamiliar with the current systems, it would be nice to have someone who could DM and help organize a game that has some experience.

Blarg, I've already got a Pathfinder game going on Sunday night.

Ok, this is only tangentially related to this thread, but I figured what the hell. I am 40 years old, and the thought of going to a location to meet complete strangers to play a game scares the ever loving sh*t out of me. Is that normal? I have never considered myself to to suffer from social anxiety but the more I have pursued this idea I am finding a real conflict between my rational brain that is very interested in furthering this idea, and my emotional response of anxiousness and doubt about moving forward with the idea. I am super impressed by the accepting and generous nature of those who are also interested in doing this and have gone so far as to even extend invitations. I think this has what has me thinking my own response may not be "normal".

Roon, it's normal. But I assure you, most of us don't bite...hard...

I'd certainly classify myself as an introvert, but I usually don't have trouble with social anxiety. Maybe its because I've spent some time doing salesy stuff, and traveling, so I've figured out how to psych myself up. I've also found that alcohol makes an amazing social lubricant (does that make me an alcoholic...?).

For me, even in online MMOs, I have a thing about being/grouping with strangers, but I don't feel that people that I've met via the forums are strangers. So I would have no problems meeting you guys, but wouldn't go by myself to a gaming thingy to meet complete strangers. I also haven't roleplayed in ages, I'm more into board/card games, even if they are mostly fantasy based

edit: even here on the forums, though, I lurk for a while before I felt comfortable starting to make my presence known

I've found Battlegrounds to be a great place. I can't recommend it enough. It's really laid back and welcoming to new people. The guys who run the Plainville shop (Chase, Matt and Sam) are all awesome and super helpful.

If you're worried about learning any of the current systems, you should head over there on Wednesday nights. Most of the tables play 4th Edition D&D for Encounters (though they're doing 5th starting next week so everyone will be on the same page of learning it), but there's also been games of Pathfinder, Fiasco and Savage Worlds that night. Most everyone I've seen there are super helpful in teaching new players the rules.

Well, my office is closed tomorrow. I'll be working from home. Good luck to everyone in the blizzard tomorrow. I think it's supposed to hit particularly hard by IrishMcJihad.

Double-post.

I'm in South Easton, and dearly hoping we retain electricity through this storm, and the trees around my house hold up. Work's still on for me tomorrow, and as of right now they still expect me in the office, in Boston.

Stay safe, everyone. This is shaping up to be real bad.

My office is closed as well tomorrow. Currently stuck in line at the grocery store

Schools closed in Franklin, though I have work, I'll be working from home.

Good luck everyone...talk about Finding Nemo :O
