Boston, MA Area GwJr's

Pages

Is there a thread for local social gatherings. I missed the PAX East gathering unfortunately but will definately be going next year. Hoping to network with GwJ'rs and do some social gaming of the in person kind. I was debating with my wife about the fact that if she can have her "book club" that meets once a month to discuss a book of choice there couldn't also be a "game club" to do a simalr thing for a particular game, be it video or board or card.

Anyway, just a thought and figured I would throw it out there.

Being from Massachusetts I may be biased, but I swear I see a lot of Goodjers listing their location as being Mass too. Btw, I'm in Franklin, that is about an hour south of Boston. A good board game "club" is Unity Games ( not sure if they still meet ) they used to have a newsgroup on Yahoo, and searching the web I found them here

Tagging. Currently in PA, but with a bit of luck, I'll be moving to Boston in the next couple of months.

We've got two writers in Cambridge. They're OK dudes.

I live near Worcester, and I know there are a handful of other Goodjers in the same ballpark. For gatherings, there really aren't many. Missy and Dr Awkward host a S&T in Southern CT annually, aside from that, I only know about PAX East. I wouldn't be surprised if gatherings would be possible on a more regular basis, but I don't think anyone has really put any effort into it yet.

I'm south of Boston, and would definitely be interested in some gaming gathering goodness, should such a thing be organized around here.

I'm in Brookline. I would be interested in getting together.

Huh, I lived in Brookline until last December. Weird. Now I live in Malden.

I thought that by law former Brookline residents had to move to Needham!

Technically, they're also supposed to be Jewish. I like to live dangerously.

We have a gaming club in Fall River, mostly tabletop games but also RPG's and board games. We have our own dedicated space that we rent, if anyone wants more info feel free to send me a PM.

Malden doesn't have a song written about it.

No, and it also doesn't have a sweet arthouse theater or a good burrito place. But you know what it does have? Affordable rents for a single dude.

Sweet! I love the responses. I was a long time Soverville resident until I moved south of the City, and now I am closer to Providence than Boston, but it still a stones throw.

In terms of a format for gathering i was thinking that it would not be much different than a book club. We could workout a list of games and committ to playing them and then meet and discuss all aspects from story to, game design, etc. Off coarse we would have to decide if this best done over Cofee or Beer.....I know where my vote would be but we could probably change it up from month to month.

Ba-bump.

I'm in the area and suffering from PAX East withdrawl. I think we should try and get a local get together at some point before the next PAX. Sadly I don't get out a ton around the city so I don't really know of many group activities to do, but here's a couple thoughts:

* Meet up for lunch and retire to Pandemonium in Central Square for afternoon/evening games
* Private meeting room in a bar?
* Field trip to Funspot / ACAM in NH (they're the people who run the Classic Arcade at PAX East)

My earlier comment still holds true.

I just moved to the area, would be interested in a shindig. Seems there was no alphadog to organize it previously, though.

Edit: Off-topic, but apparently I did some poor planning here and neither my bank nor the bank I have a car loan through has a branch anywhere within 90 miles.

The loan bank I'm stuck with I guess, but what's a good bank I can switch to here? I've never switched banks so I don't know what the process entails.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I would potentially be interested in any of the above bullet points.

I believe I've heard good things about DCU (Federal Digital Credit Union) and they offer a "Second Chance" refinance loan which is supposed to be pretty good last I checked (about 4 years ago). Century and Citizen's both have noticeable presences in the area but I don't know much about them. There's a lot of smaller banks in the area too.

I'm originally from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, but I'm on a 3-5 year assignment in Foxboro, MA for work. I'd love to get together for another meetup (I was at the GWJ Pax meetup) and a trip up to ACAM would be awesome.

Guess I forgot which name I used on here... I usually go by SysErr (as per the email that got read last week), but I guess my ID on here is the same as my old Steam account, la Rapiere

I live in Norwood (about 30 minutes from Boston) and am down for any GWJ hangout needs. I need people to play my vast collection of board games with.

The advice I have always heard is that if you want to put your money in a bank, buy their stock, If you want a checking account, go to a credit union. That said, credit unions usually have limited locations, and restrictions on who can join.

Just moved to the Greater Boston area (well right on the edge of it) from Ohio and have been loving it so far, would definitely be down with meeting some GWJers out here on the East Coast. As of yet, still unemployed, so my schedule is pretty open as well.

Didn't find this thread in my search somehow so I started a new one.

We (Polypusher and myself) are in Marlborough MA and want to set up hangouts. Have house, will host. Some Saturday in May? We have a basement theater which also has dartboard and handy beer shelf (really proud of that one). If you ARE coming from a neighboring area and wish to stay overnight, there are two hotels within a couple of miles of us.

We have a couple of tables for games, and a TV in the living room if someone wants to bring a non-Xbox-360 console (or a second XBox 360 of course.) Living room also has Netflix (whose doesn't?).

We have a ton of board/card games, too. We, like Costontine, require nerdfriends to play with.

Bring snacks/drinks (booze or nonbooze). Folding chairs would also not be turned away.

I'd love to come out for something (I'm all the way on the other side of the state), but May's a train wreck.

Pinball Wizard's another great potential meetup place.

Wow! That is a lot closer to me that I expected. I'm in a Worcester suburb, myself, so getting there is no problem at all. If you just want a place to play, I spend a lot of of time at "The Whiz" in Westborough - 15 minutes or so from Marlborough, right on Route 9.

After posting my "concert" idea in the other thread, Amazon read my mind and put up a cheap projector as a daily deal, so I had to pounce. Maybe something could be done at the park you mentioned, that would be totally awesome!

I don't think we have anything planned for May, but want to check with Demyx before we can commit to any sort of meetup.

I would be willing to try and setup a small get-together at some point in the summer in the city. If people have ideas for things to do please post them here too.

I wish I had known this existed sooner. Looks like the same deal as Funspot but easily an hour closer to my apartment. Will have to check it out on a rainy day one of these weekends.

This rock band concert idea has my complete and full approval. I will be your 'roadie' Atras to make this happen.

Marlborough isn't that far from me, I'll keep an eye on this. I would definitely be interested in playing some boardgames

Also, like I mentioned above, if anyone is interested in our gaming club in Fall River (tabletop minis mostly, board and RPG too) let me know

I read something about a Saturday in May. Does the 26th work for people?

I live in Franklin, and would be up for something, though with my wife's work schedule and me having to take care of the kids, it will be up in the air until she tells me it is ok
