GWJ BCS League - NCAA 12 (360): Season I, Week 2

Unfair "Interceptor"? haha

My INT was totally fair! It was just one of those holy crap moments lol.

I controlled a guy who was supposed to be rushing the passes and I moved him back into the slot and mashed the Y button at the right time.

Most of the INTs didn't bother me as cheap like the tipped passes by LBs. That DE one did at the time, but it's understandable now. It still means he had eyes in the back of his head (yours)!!

That deep pass just before the half that ended as an INT is one that I haven't yet come to grips with. They've tweaked the speed of safeties and CBs on those deep balls to allow them to catch up to receivers. Your right corner left his man, outran both his man and my deep man (wide open when the ball left) and met the safety from the left side of the field at my receiver.

Boy, the one on the play action pass was just miserable. Your LB was sitting right there in the middle of the field in a zone, and I threw it right at him. I think when the players stand still, I have a harder time picking them out on the field...and lord knows that LB didn't have to move an inch to grab that INT!!

Yeah, it was pretty hard to get any offense going when I turned over the ball 6 times.

haha, no, I know! It's a bye week for me, so I'm living vicariously through you all!!

I feel like I'm an unfair fumble-causer, but I love it when I actually earn one with a big hit!!

It seems harder to get a hard hit this year.

Website is showing 12/12. yay!

And I have a bye this week. Boooooo!!!

Spent some time with my Mustangs last night, and i think I am going back to the Run and Shoot. Not only did a I pass much better, but holy crap was I able to run the ball like a beast out of the shotgun. Not only did my HB average almost six yards a carry, but I picked up some great QB scrambles and option plays.

It was pretty fun to see how an aggressive passing attack can open up the run game.

I think I am also going to give the 4-3 a try. Defense is what is really killing me now. So I have to try something. It was either that or go to a 3-3-5.

I haven't played yet. I started twice, but got distracted both times. I will play it when I get home from work today.

Horde mode is distracting? Color me intrigued.

Haha...yeah, I got an invite from a real-life friend who I haven't talked to in a while, so I decided to play Gears with him instead. I learned that I'm not very good at Gears.

Horde mode is hard regardless. We got through it on the level where you can close off all entrances and use the mortar cannon to take out the horde from a distance.

If you are able to play, I will roll tonight when I get home from bowling. Hopefully, Hansome and Firesloth will be able to play their games before Friday. I will give a full week for the Week 3 sim period, to cover Hansome and Firesloth's vacations. I will roll to Week 4 while they are gone, and we'll Hansome/Zellbrige 4-5 days to get their Week 4 matchup in. The good news is that since we rolled Weeks 1 & 2 so quickly, by the time we get to Week 5, it's pretty much like it took the full 7 days to play each week, which was normal for Madden.

Counselor, I also have a favor to ask of you. Do you still have Transformers WFC? If so, I was wondering if you can help me grab a couple of chievos. I'd ask Shag, but he needs to buy the game, and he has enough of achievement points as it is.....................then again, so do you {color=impressed}

*EDIT*
If anyone has the game and would like to run the two co-op achievements with me, the invitation is opened to you as well. I know Counselor has played the game, since we're both on TrueAchievements.com. If anyone else is on there, hit me up with a friend request (Kush15)

Also looking to complete the "Hug" and "Calibration" achievement on Portals II

I got an invite to play Gears from the Goodjer faithful the other night, but I had already sold it off. I decided to buy the DLC version so that I could jump in the next time.

Sure enough, I load up the single player save I still had, and I have spent another hour trying to blow up that f*cking fish monster. That's where I gave up and sold it the first time. Man, that game pisses me off.

I dont know if you remember Johngpr but he has those games and loves achievement whoring them.

I do, I know I had him on my friends list at one point, I forget if he's still there. Thanks for the heads up!

I love me some horde mode...feel free to drop me an invite if you folks need help.

I'd be happy to play some coop with you to help you get through that part. It was a bit annoying...

I'll take you up on that! I actually enjoy the Gears single player for the most part. It's simple and stupid, so it is a perfect match for me!

And like I said, I now have Gears 2 on my hard drive. So I can accept an invite without having to move my butt from the couch. Feel free to drop me an invite, especially for Horde mode.

BTW, this is what I love about GWJ. We can be one big NCAA family, and yet still find time to play other games with each other.

Of course, just as long as we get our NCAA games done in a timely fashion

We'll see how congenial you are when NHL 12 drops. It's looking like it is going to be a beast of a game. I'd love to see a bunch of Goodjers playing HUT. It could be as much or more fun as our OD.

I can already tell you I will be spending a lot of time with NHL 12

I'm actually going to be joining a local online dynasty for NHL12 as well. I'd like to see how that holds up with both leagues and a kid on the way

I'm more of an online teamplay person myself.

My plan is to work on a HUT team while spending no money, and hopefully finding some Goodjers doing the same. It will track W-L among a group of friends. We can play each other, and while it won't earn you pucks, it also won't cost you contract games on players you have.

OTP is such a great idea that seems to fail because it rewards toolbags way too much. League play would be great, but we have failed to have a good group since NHL 2K6 (or 2K7, I forget).

HUT will would be more pick-up and play. And I have to say that it is a deep mode that makes it a blast to assemble a roster. The problem last year was that playing online meant facing kids who were spending stupid money on perfect teams, as well as rewarding glitchers with more pucks to spend. It made online play terrible.

This year, not only can you play friends, but you also are given the rosters of four HUT teams to play. One just worse than you, one the same, and one just better than you. You are also given a Top 100 team. So instead of playing the same teams on the discs, you can see what other guys are doing to build up their teams without having to play their glitch loving owners. I think it sounds like a blast.

I think it also sounds like I should be posting this in the NHL 12 thread.

What is HUT?

I have played the hockey games before, but my friends and I usually just try to rack up as many checks as we can (so we don't rent the realistic games!) while losing 0-8. We create 7'0" players and turn all the penalties off.

So, I'm assuming I wouldn't be a good member of any hockey league, but the checks are fun!! haha

That sounds awesome, and it does a good job of tapping into our "baseball collecting child" side. I wish they'd do that with a baseball game.

Thanks for the breakdown, I may have to give it a look!!

HUT is a card collecting type game. You get a pack of virtual cards with with players from European leagues, minor leagues, and the NHL. You then assemble a roster and set up your lines. As you play, you earn "pucks" which you can use to buy more packs of virtual cards. You can then auction off cards you don't want, as well as buy them with these pucks. The auction house actually functions pretty great.

Each card can only be used for so many games. You can extend this by applying contract cards to a player. There are also cards for healing injuries and training cards that you can use to boost attributes. Young players in the minors can be boosted more than veterans in the NHL.

Further, when you set up lines, having players from the same league on the same line will improve chemistry. Having players form the same team boosts it even more. Having a LW play LW instead of RW improves his ability. This is all well represented on the screen where you set up your lines, so you know what boosts you are getting.

You also get cards for rinks. If you have fast, but small team, you will benefit from Olympic size rinks. If you have slower, but tougher team, you will benefit from an NHL rink. You get cards for jerseys. I played as The Phog (Phog Allen Fieldhouse FTW!) so I grabbed a jersey from a Falcons team in the AHL. They wear crimson and blue and have a bird on the front!

The only downside is that the mode is really designed to encourage you to spend cash on more pucks. And while you can enjoy it without, you probably will not have a team of NHL caliber players. And since your only online experience in HUT was random games, it was annoying to face teams of kids with superstars who were rewarded for playing like tools. You can also earn pucks offline, but that gets lonely. You want to share your creation!

This year, you can play friends with your team. It just won't count for pucks or cost you games on your players. But it will track W-L with your friends. Now we can build a team and share it with someone that doesn't have several X's and various capitalizations in their gamertag that tells you how awesome they are.

So, you see, I kind of really like HUT, a lot. It reminds me of a cross of my old Strat-o-Matic baseball days when we would redraft leagues and play, and playing fantasy baseball and football. It appeals to me becasue there is a lot of deep strategy you can put into the game which created a very personal team. There were so many players I really started to follow because they were on my HUT team.

Yeah, ditto. Joe Pa gets blind-sided in practice, and takes it out on Counselar.
