Rock of Ages (from the Zeno Clash devs)

Talk about going in a different direction, but still keeping with their amazingly imaginative art stylings. Not to say this looks anything like Zeno Clash, but it's got their artistic touch to it.

Anyway, so apparently this is a strategy game where you roll a boulder over enemy units and buildings. The interesting part, outside of the somewhat whacky idea and art style, is that it covers 24 different art periods, so visually things should continue to stay interesting.

While there are screenshots below, a video best shows what this madness is about:

Atlus is publishing and the game is slated to come out in 2011.

That looks incredible. I want it. I also have Def Leppard stuck in my head now.

Honestly, I'm really happy they've hooked up with Atlus as it seems to be the perfect publisher to put their stuff out. Atlus carries over into the mainstream from time to time, but generally they make their money with smart targeting and marketing, which is what this team probably needs based on their ideas and art style.

I forgot to mention, but so far from the info I've seen this is 360 and PS3 only, but I would expect PC based on that being the lead platform for Zeno Clash.

Even if the game is bad, it'll be worth it for the art design. When I saw the trailer, I thought I noticed at one point a mouse curser moving around. I sorta assumed it was a PC title. It'll be cool at any rate.

Yeah, G4 has it listed under PC news. I doubt there would be any reason for them not to release it on the PC especially with the indie scene being so strong there. It's just that their deal with Atlus led a number of more reputable sites to list only PS3 and 360. Really, it's them and PC based on a bunch of other slightly less reputable news sites (non-biased? whatever, it's really early on).

Yes! My very first *cough*! It's a big moment in a young Goodjer's life.

(Of course, your post's a lot more detailed than mine was and has already gotten more replies, so we should probably just carry on here.)

My favorite part of the trailer is the combo of the 2-D Gilliamesque paper soldiers with the 3-D everything else--haven't really seen that sort of thing before, but I think it looks awesome. Hell, the whole thing does.

Edit: No mouse curser. I just rewatched the trailer. I think the reason I assumed it would be on PC is because I originally found the trailer through pcgamer.com

That looks so rad.

Well, I just posted in your thread. One never knows which thread will end up getting picked up and even if you did a search my thread may not have showed up. These things take time to show up in the search.

Edit: Well, I got it all backwards. You did create yours first, but I did do a search, so what I'm saying still applies. Your post just wasn't queued up in the search when I posted my thread. My bad.

It could use some cool music. Maybe you should, ah, help em out.

Are you sure it wasn't your cursor you saw moving around?

Thaaaaat's what it was...

I swear I've played this game before...

Seriously, that's what came to mind when I saw the video. Which for isn't a bad thing.

Nuts. Way to go, presumably-prudish-console-manufacturer requirements.

This does indeed look interesting. Zeno Clash never got more than a passing look from me, though. Plus, when is a game where the concept is to destroy objects a not a great idea. I mean, it worked for Blast Corps.

That looks pretty nifty. The visuals in Zeno Clash are what kept me going almost all the way through the game--gameplay itself got old pretty quick, to the point that I'm on what I think may be the final boss battle, yet I'm still having trouble mustering the enthusiasm to finish it.

He sure is a happy giant boulder. Which he should be, given that he gets to smash things.

It's a lesson for all of us...we should learn to take pleasure in the little things...by crushing them to pieces.

Power-Ups trailer:

Double jump!

Edit: Downloaded some of the screens so that I could use them as desktop backgrounds. I can't wait for this game.

This is what the game Pain! should have been.

Drum roll please ....... (thanks)

Rock of Ages will be coming to us August 31st.

Hmm, I doubt I'd have Human Revolution finished by then, but I assume SP and MP levels will a nice 10-20 minutes. Regardless, I was kind of sold from their first trailer.

Woah, how did I not see this before? That game looks pretty rad.

That date works pretty well for me. I loved Zeno Clash, and the only other new games on my list are Puzzle Agent 2 (end of June) and Skyrim (11/11/11).

I wondered what had happened to this.

Come on people, you can pre-order through Steam now! $8.99, alright.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/22...

Crap, I didn't realize this was finally coming out. Ubi's not gonna swoop in, delay it three weeks, and add some sh*tty DRM to this one, right?

Perhaps not, but I shudder to think ACE might try some stone "ball skins" like Madballs has been throwing up every few weeks after it was released.

The game looks great. To be honest, I can foresee the possibility of a ball rolling game being a bit monotonous at some point-- haven't read any impressions of the game. I'm going to pre-order though. The art style is phenomenal and these guys have an interesting aesthetic. For that cheap a price I'm in for the ride, either way it goes.
