Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception Catch-All

Just subscribing to the thread. I bought a PS3 the other week, and the only games I own are Little Big Planet (for the boy) and Uncharted 1/2. I found the combat in the first game a bit of a pain in the arse, but it seems more fun in the second game so far (just met up with Elena again).

Uncharted is one franchise that I have no reservations about playing on Easy. I think it suits the gameworld better when the enemies don't take 3 clips from a machine gun to go down. I find the gameplay more enjoyable that way, also. Plus, the story is so well done in them that I like plowing through it quickly to see what happens next.

Yeah, Uncharted was the game that made me realize that I don't care about playing the "right" way. Some games I still want to play on hard but I'll still usually play on easy first just for the story.

I keep this in mind when I eventually play the trilogy through. I'll probably play UC1 on Easy and UC2 on Normal as I didn't hear near the amount of combat repetition and grind critiqued for UC2.

I've found UC2 much better than UC1 in this regard, but I'm only half way through it I think (Siege). The cases where you had 2-3 more waves of enemies than you really wanted in UC1 don't seem to be here in UC2, and they're not soaking up as much damage either. I'm probably finding it a bit easier too, since by the end I was forced to be more mobile around the battlefield.

I just hope that the annoying new enemy you have towards the end doesn't get repeated. So far UC2 is just a better, tighter game than UC1. More varied locations, better save points, no maddening "jetski up waterfalls avoiding barrels and RPGs all at the same time" sections.

I'm not feeling the love for the characters that I heard at the time it came out though. They're very well acted by the cast, and the script is good, but Chloe and Elena as characters are no less cliched than say, Miranda and Jack from ME2 (though they're better acted and scripted; the Wiki page says that the cast had a lot of rehearsal and opportunity to improvise the lines, and it shows). Don't get me wrong, they're heaps better than Lara Croft, but I was expecting something more somehow. Maybe Chloe is going to acquire an arc at some point?

So Subway is giving out these codes with the purchase of a 30 oz. drink. Not every Subway is doing it so keep an eye out for the plastic cup with Nathan Drake on it. You can turn those codes in for early (as in, now) access to multiplayer, some bonus cash, a weapon (might just be a weapon skin, I don't know), and a Subway-themed Drake skin, among some other baffling things like a "$5 Footlong" taunt. It's... really stupid, but so stupid it's kind of funny.

Fair warning: they don't do anything to cover up the codes on the cups. They're just printed on the side. So if you drop by and pick one up, you'd do well to get one that hasn't been exposed for too long, else someone may have stolen the code. My local Subway had them sitting right next to the register with the code facing out. It's also entirely conceivable that an employee could just go through the whole stack copying numbers.

And there's also a Nathan Drake Subway commercial I've seen a couple times on ESPN already.

I imagine the game will be framerate locked at 30, but I swear this video looks like a fair amount of the gameplay is happening at 60fps.

Argh! This has been everywhere! Stop tempting me to look! Think I'm trifling? I will rip my eyes out and keep them in a jar until the 1st if I have to!

Spoiler:

Nathan Drake is Batman

Wow, I cannot wait for this. Can't believe it's out in less than 3 weeks, just found a birthday gift to myself.

On my buy list for Q4 as well. Played through UC2 and loved it and just picked up the UC1 and am pleasantly surprised by how it's playing so far (though I've heard it takes a dive in the last couple of hours).

I'll have to beef up my PSN friends list. If you see an invite from RobotMarmot, that's me!

Way to blow my mind, Japan:

Sorry, my mind goes weird places sometimes.

Lies!

Spoiler:

He's actually Penguin

Subscribing! I absolutely loved U1 &2. I hadn't had a PS3 in awhile, but I picked one up recently partially because this game is coming out. That Harrison Ford spot is just plain rad.

reviews are showing up everywhere

Spoiler:

Surprise! Pretty much everyone thinks it's amazing

Damn these early review embargo dates, damn them!

I watched the Gametrailers review and the only thing which put me off was how much they talked about the multiplayer. I like MP fine but what I want in Uncharted is a great, long story - it seems like U3 has 1 of those and a lot of MP. Still it looks pretty great.

Couple weeks

My PS3 BD-ROM died so U2 has been sitting on the shelf collecting dust. I recently got a new PS3 though and just started on U2. I'm about halfway through it right now. It'll be nice to be able to roll right into U3.

I actually thought it was scheduled for the 8th. I should probably start looking at preorder options.

This looks like tons of fun... but the damn PS3 controller.. well.. I'm off to waste 20 minutes looking for a better PS3 controller.

/preordered

Well hell with it. I had $42 of gift cards at Amazon for various things, so I decided to pre-order. Really intended to wait on this one but hey it's less then $20, I can't really not get it.

Had a meeting earlier with PlayStation people. Got my advanced copy and started playing yesterday.
Wife was unhappy for about 2.3 seconds that I was the only one that got free stuff out of that meeting before I showed what the PlayStation team got for her.

Back on topic, the game IS amazing.
If you haven't pre-ordered, by all means, do so.

Green... envy... argh...

Ahhh! Too many games!
I think I'm going to wait on Uncharted 3.

I mean, unless Amazon puts in on sale or something. Then I would HAVE to buy it. That's only sensible. (hint, hint)

Quick hint for the german GWJers out there, as I totally missed this: The game got released early over here (I think already yesterday 28th) as opposed to the target date of 2nd November. I just bought a copy at a local retail store.

Total nerdiness involved - getting up at 7:30 am, just to make sure I get a copy. Shelves were loaded (of course!), but at least my weekend is "safe" now
