Hedge, the issue here is that I'm addressing your points and you're putting words in my mouth. I've never said I should have a say in the matter. I don't want one, and in fact I've alluded to that(this is the first time I've said it flat out). I have said, repeatedly, as has Fed, that if an author sets out to write a series, he's honor bound to do so, and not muck it all up. I have said nothing more and nothing less, yet you've repeatedly made statements and allusions to the contrary, like this one:
But that connection doesn't mean that you're paying George's salary and therefore have a "say" into what he works on next.
However, if the money I pay the bookstore who pays the distro who pays the publisher who pays GRRM isn't paying him to write novels, then where is the money coming from? I see a very clear line of reasoning here, and a direct correlation between me buying a book and an author getting paid. I fail to see where that is not the case, and you haven't yet disproved that either, and saying 'It just doesn't work that way' doesn't count.
Umm so, Certis will probably faint at the news, but GRRM has confirmed on his blog that none other than Sean Bean will play Eddard Stark.

That could be an ideal casting.
My own mental depiction of Ned Stark, however, is irrevocably affected by the Dabel Brother painting, and on that image, he's nothing like Sean Bean.

I feel the same way, but I also didn't think Karl Urban was a good choice for Bones. And I was oh so wrong about that.

*herk*
*shudder*
Ahhhhhh. That's right.
Of course now they'll have to change the story so that he can be in the entire series no matter what.

You underestimate the power of the flashback.
I did not need to see Certis' O-face.
And that's not all. He's announced that Mark Addy will be Robert Baratheon (I was hoping for a more Brian Blessed type, because that's how he's written, but there you go), and Harry Lloyd as Viserys. Lloyd played Baines (the dim toff kid that gets possessed by the Family) in the Doctor Who episodes "Human Nature" and "Family of Blood", in which he was very very good indeed. I'm not familiar with the boy they've cast as Jon Snow. I guess it'll be harder to find the actors for the longer-term roles (or as close as it gets in SoIaF).
I think he is a great choice myself. Hopefully they get the children cast properly as well.
Hey, Certis, did you ever see Equilibrium? There's this great scene where Christian Bale shoots Sean Bean in the face.

He had it coming too. For sitting around reading poetry when he should've been out killing people that read poetry.
Tread softly, Stone...
Mark Addy will be Robert Baratheon... and Harry Lloyd as Viserys.
Both great casting choice at least on appearances. The guy playing Robert Baratheon looks like a strong, jovial, babyfaced king. The guy playing Viserys looks like a douche.
A blonde Eddard? huh?
Sean Bean just...clashes with my internal vision of Eddard.
Of course I was dubious about a lot of the casting in Star Trek as well and I was admittedly fretting over nothing.
Also, is it just me or does Sean Bean look like Kenneth Branagh? If so, can we just have Kenneth instead?
"One does not simply walk into Mordor." = "Winter is coming."
I think I can see it.

It's just you.
I would have more easily pictured Sean Bean as Jaime Lannister than Eddard Stark.

I know! Bale probably should've shot him twice!
Cersei and Arya. Those are the roles I'm dying to hear about.

Keep it up and you're gonna get banned twice.

This is an exceedingly good point. I can see him doing Ned, but Jaime is more fitting.
He could do Tywin, but he's too old to be Jaimie.
Jaime should be played by someone with starry eyes, like that guy who plays Captain Harkness in Dr. Who.

How old is Jaime? I had always pictured him around Boromir's or Faramir's age with Tywin being as old as Denethor (as they are portrayed in the movies; I'm sure that Tolkien made all of them 111 thanks to the influence of some gem or other).

Starry eyes, maybe, but John Barrowman? No.
I imagined Jamie to be in his late 20's. Wasn't AGoT set ten years after Robert's Revolution? Jamie was around 17 or 18 when he became the Kingslayer, I think.
Jaime has a what, 16 year old son? So he's mid-30s, I'd wager.
Joffrey was 12, and Robb was ~15 so I guess AGoT was closer to fifteen years after the revolution. Sure, eary/mid 30s sounds right.

You must not be looking hard enough.
Yeah, earliest I can see him being a "young" knight is around fourteen to sixteen, so if we're talking fifteen years since the betrayal twenty-nine is the extreme low-end of his age.
Speaking of age, have the announced who's going to play the younger cast? Because Dany's pretty freaking young in the first book but she's got some major acting to pull off as I recall. Same with Joffrey, though at least he'll be gone within the first season... or two, however long book one takes.

I wouldn't be surprised if they up-age Dany a little, though that's still going to be one of the harder roles to cast.
Unless it's changed from the initial announcement, they're planning on one book per season. Though at a season a year, there's a decent chance they'd run out of books too soon.
