New Netflix Format

Does anyone else hate the new way you browse the instant play? It won't show the stars right away, it scrolls super slow and there are just large pictures for the movies. Or am I the only one?

It changes my PS3 interface, too, and I'm Hate. My Instant Queue is 200+, I need a grid, not a row.

Ugh. It doesn't automatically show the star rating.

This is a huge thing for me. I have rated almost a thousand movies/tv shows and the star rating is pretty accurate for new stuff. If something is below 4 stars for me I don't watch it. When there are movies I normally wouldn't even consider and they have 4 or 5 stars then I'm pleasantly surprised to enjoy something new.

Exactly. And there are far too many crap movies/shows that I have to scan through to find new stuff I'm interested in.

I also hate it. Besides the issues already mentioned, I can no longer browse for things on my phone, and my phone doesn't currently support a netflix app. I'm stuck viewing only the things that are immediately visible since there's no way to indicate that I want the row to scroll using my android based phone.

+1.

How will you know if you'll like White Chicks??

I know, right!?!?!?!!

Yeah I have to agree. Their new setup is genuinely awful for browsing around.

I have so many answers.

I thought it was just me, but the format is not working for me.

I just want to be able to organize my Watch Instant into folders!!! PLEASE!!!!

I've got 400 titles queued up in this Frankenstein order of kid friendly titles towards the top, my wife's chick flicks / drama movies in the middle and then my horror/scifi/documentary/not kid friendly at the bottom.

Click on a title and go straight to the Instant Player. Sounds like a good idea. Except that its not. What if I just want to add it to my queue? What if I want to check out reviews? Put me down for hate.

I wish I had to queue to organize. We only get streaming, but you can only browse, search, or look at recents. I can't mark a bunch to be watched later, I either have to write it down, start it then stop it (and hope recents doesn't remove it), or forget about it until I'm browsing again.

And I am going to miss those visible star ratings.

That doesn't sound good. Did it change the interface on all platforms?

PC has the new interface, too. I'm guessing they got rid of the ratings to make the interface cleaner and the photos bigger. Or maybe some content providers were getting pissed that their movies were getting one or two stars (though that assumes they make royalties from members streaming movies). Or maybe it's easier to make a consistent interface across platforms by going this way. I didn't see any explanation when I logged in. Why the changes, Netflix? I need closure.

The other changes I notice on the PC is that they take you to the instant watch tab as soon as you log in rather than the DVD selection. They also made the picture into a "play movie" button, so you don't have to go to a separate screen to start a movie.

Definitely not good.

I really REALLY REALLY hate this. I watch so many tv shows compared to movies that this is extremely annoying.

I thought this was just the iPad version. FAIL!

edit: Strike that - I was in the wrong )&@!% pane/view/tab or whatever they call it in iVille

iPad still has stars and etc. It wasn't the same as the PC version before, either. Now it looks like they've gone off into tooley-ville somewhere with the UI.

Um, works fine for me? Hover over a title to see the Star Rating and a description of the movie. Click on the "[+] Instant Queue" button in the bottom right-hand corner to add it to your queue. Click on the movie title to go to its page.

I can't speak for phone accessibility since my phone has an app.

Exactly what I don't like about it. Put the rating back under the movie. Don't make me hover.

The hold and wait is annoying. Really slows down the usability, as does the slow-as-molasses scrolling.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates the new layout. It seems so difficult to get to anything now. Without cable, I rely heavily on Netflix and Hulu to entertain me. I can't get over how much worse this is now

I'm kind of glad someone started a thread calling this out. The new design has such glaring usability and accessibility issues, I don't understand how it got pushed out in its current state.

Glad to see that I'm not the only one. I hate this new layout so much.

I hope all you people who hate the new Netflix UI have sent feedback to Netflix explaining your hatred of their godawful idiotic new design like I have. I have a glimmer of hope that we may get an option to do things differently if enough people complain (a'la gawker's f'd up new design).

p.s. the place to comment is at the blog post announcing the new design here: http://blog.netflix.com/2011/06/new-...

Or you can call, there's a phone number and a "fast access" code given at the "Contact Us" link on the web site itself.

Done that. My mom called me to complain - it wreaks havoc on her screen reader.

I posted a complaint.

How do you post complaints? I've never seen a Contact Us that wasn't specific to playability.

Re-read Badken's post, skimmer.

It's Deus Ex 2 all over again! Stop this madness!
