Defiance: new blend of MMO

So, lockboxes. Is it better to open them as they come or hold off until higher ego levels since they scale?

Depends on your needs. Money is super easy to come by and the ohter parts come quick just by questing. Even quicker if you do arkfalls.

Sooo, as my inventory fills I am repeatedly coming across the decision to either Breakdown items to resources or sell them. Is this purely a choice of circumstance, or is there more reasoning as to which is better at a given time. Currently I am unable to mod as I am still only at 78 Ego but I don't want to go into level 100 without any salvage. Either way I haven't seen much use for currency yet either...

Thoughts?

I find scrip comes faster than resources, so I am breaking down pretty much everything. Adding mod slots takes a lot of resources.

@Elycion Thank you! That's exactly what I was wondering.

It seems like the servers are down a lot, at least on the PC

So, how is the chat channel on the PC ?

On the 360, because of the requirement for typing it is remarkably empty.

It doesn't actually seem like a community experience, which makes things difficult to coordinate an ark fall event.

I play on PC and I've seen about 30 lines of chat total since the game launched. Of course, it launched with chat broken (was broken in Alpha also) and I still don't think it's entirely functional even after the last patch to address it.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing during watching PC beta gameplay vids and my brief experience in the beta. I finally tested it to see if there was even a chat box.

I looted a semi-auto sniper rifle with low recoil and radiation damage during an arkfall last night. I almost feel bad using it on mobs, it's so awesome. They don't stand a chance.

Nice, I have not tried many snipers yet. I did add a sweet stock and scope to my assault rifle so at medium range it is a beast now. Long range is not too bad either.

Was wandering around and ran into a Raider Hulker, anyone seen one yet? Reminded me of a huge ogre that threw rockets at me like lawn darts.

Is there a way to whisper or chat with someone? I've been friended, but can't figure out how to friend nor how to chat!

I just killed one on a mission. I've also seen a couple different kinds of larger bugs, and a couple larger robots that killed me a few times.

Since it sounds like we're not doing a GWJ clan I joined up with The Adult Gamer's Xbox clan. I've played with a few of them already and they seem like they'll be a good fit. I'm sure they'd welcome anyone else looking for a clan playing on Xbox.

Is this a play it now game or a wait for it to mature more game? Rift when it launched was very playable, even if it lacked an end-game for quite some time. How's this?

I am finding it average, though I have yet to do any co-op. I think doing co-op is where it will better. It appears to be following the guild wars cost model so I don't feel like I am wasting money if I don't play.

I've been playing pretty casually the first week, so it took me until yesterday to finally get past what I'd repeatedly played during Alpha and Beta events. This means I'm finally in San Francisco, and holy hell does the difficulty ramp up a lot!

The scrappers aren't that bad although they come in hordes (basically mechanical Hellbugs), but the Dark Matter camps are just insane. Stepping into aggro range results in you taking focused fire from several tough enemies and that's not even counting the mechs!

My biggest frustration at the moment is that the random event density is so high in San Francisco that the Time Trial events are often impossible. When three or four dynamic events are spawned in the middle of the track it's not possible to get a medal.

All things considered I'm having a blast. I'm sitting at 600 EGO, and I haven't even touched the co-op or Shadow War content yet. I've got probably 3 or 4 more days before I finish the story missions and the various exploration and zone completion achievements.

I think that is my biggest problem with the game so far. The concept of "agro" exists. I know it is a MMO construct that was needed in the past, but in a shooter I find it very annoying that I shoot a guy, sneak around a building, climb on the roof and everyone in the area knows exactly where I am. Then you add MoBs that throw grenades at you and no matter where you sneak to you are getting bombarded. I just wish they added an AI component where LoS mattered at least a little bit.

The stealth is less a sneak and more an old school feign death. lol

600 Ego is casual ? Damn, I'd like to see your "intense"...

I just picked this up for PC last night and would love to play with some fellow goojers.

Acct name: Thomp
Char name: John Marston

I had one other question... I've seen people mention "co-op" numerous times in this thread, what do you mean by that?

Is co-op in Defiance simply joining up with people to participate in the dynamic Arkfall events? Or is there a structured co-op, mission-based system in the game that you can queue for (like the 3/5 man dungeon system in WoW)?

I'm Sam Spade in game, the coop is if you hit "N" it lists some missions that are like 5 mans

Awesome, thanks!

that's only like an hour or 2 a day if that.

At the start that's true, but when you start maxing out your skills it becomes more rogue like.

semantics... with the words separated and us being in a MMO forum i didnt think people would get hung up on that.

Sooo I lost my Sporeshot which is one of my favorite guns, I logged in last night and it was just gone. I put in a support ticket. Anyone else lose any items or think I have a chance in getting it back?

Also, does anyone know where I can score an orange weapon?

Anyone else have guns they can't seem to get rid of? I have some guns I can't sell or breakdown. Am I missing something about those guns? Also, what's up with the xp on guns?

Are they guns you were using at some point? It's possible that you inadvertently saved them in a loadout before unequipping them.
