Post a Picture of Your Silly Purchase of the Month.

Now that I've been in my house for a year or so and let the neighbors get comfortable, I could think of no better purchase than a $3.99 pirate flag to hang off a flagpole.

The reason that it's in the silly purchase thread is it costs quite a bit.

So my magic table is locked down. Options determined.

It typically takes 6-10 months to receive the table, but because they already had materials in overstock matching my selected table size, options and wood type, I might get it as early as August/September.

SO EXCITED!

I did the same thing this weekend, but mine was this one

Also a silly price to pay but I'm hoping I'll never have a wireless issue again in my life!

Those tables look so sweet Hedge. You should throw a baby shower for it, except with games instead of babies. And no throwing.

Nice! I had to get one because my roommate is moving out and taking the one we had been using. Are you going with a 3rd party firmware? There is a version of Tomato that works on the RT-N66U, but DD-WRT isn't working on it yet that I know of (Should be possible, though). I think I'm going to stick with the stock stuff for now.

Hey, I bought that exact same one when my ancient D-link finally bit the dust (seriously, it was powered by waterwheel). Rock solid and super-fast so far.

I am quite jealous.

I'm sticking with stock, at least for now unless I have a need to change it up.
There was just a new firmware released for the 4500 so I patched it.

I was in the dark about dual bands. I didn't realize 5GHz was a significantly weaker signal. I was told by my network guru here at work that it is mainly meant for media, and is best for machines within the effective range, not meant for roaming devices all over the house, unless you put in AP's.

Tuffalo, that's the RT-N66U, correct?

You and Groan need to keep us posted on those things' performance, as I am going to be in the market for a new router very soon.

Will do! I just got everything up and running but won't have time to play around with serious testing tonight. The signal strength is awesome at least.

I'm continuing my evaluation of the RT-N66U in the main wireless router thread.

I've decided a man can not live on a bivy alone.

So I purchased a tarp with a zipper. It's really light!

Black Diamond MegaLight

I just bought this:

How odd, so did I

Though I also invested $30 in Wasteland 2 - Mark Morgan (Fallout 1, 2, Planescape) doing the score was enough to bump me up from the lowest tier to the soundtrack included tier

Hear, hear!
$30 because I'm really interested in the documentaries.

Girlfriend wanted me to go to Target with her. While there, this caught my eye. I'm sure I already have some of this content on the 2-disc set I bought several years ago, but this has more (7 discs). Plus it was only $20, so I got it.

That literally is a silly purchase! Nice.

nyuk nyuk nyuk

This finally came in the mail today from the Czech Republic. I've been waiting for it forever!

A sealed copy of one of my favorite vintage games of all time.

This s**t was Elder Scrolls before Elder Scrolls!

Hehe, I put so many hours into that game. Do you still have an Intellivision??

Sadly, no.

Dirty secret:

Spoiler:
I traded my Intellivision with a friend for a Vectrex (which is also long gone).

I'm wondering if I hogtied myself by getting a sealed copy. I so want to open it up and pour over the materials (if I remember correctly, the manual is pretty darn thick), but I also don't want to break the seal.

It's not like I'm trying to hold on to it for monetary resale value, so I should theoretically be able to open it with a free conscious. But there's just something about having a sealed copy of one of my favorite games from 30 years ago.

Decisions, decisions.

Why not save opening it for a special occasion?

That poor game has been sitting in its box unplayed for over 30 years. So lonely.

Maybe this will help soothe your urges:

And if you actually want to play it:

SUPPOSEDLY the games "Adventure" and "Minotaur" are actually the 2 D&D games. To play Tarmin, get the 2nd one (Intellivision Rocks!) because the one in Intellivision Lives! is reported to be buggy.

Quintin_Stone, thanks man! Those are some sweet links.

I have Intellivision Lives for 360, but I don't recall any of the AD&D games being included. I always thought it was a licensing issue or something.

I dabbled with the 2D AD&D Intellivision games back in the day, but they didn't have nearly the same impact that Tarmin did. The latter is the first first-person (adventure) game I ever played and it left a lasting impact. ("Adventure" noted because Atari's Night Driver released prior to that...likely fueling my life-long passion for racers!)

I wish Treasure of Tarmin were released on a digital platform like iOS or something. I'd pay a premium for it as I think it was revolutionary for the time and a harbinger for the future of gaming.

It's funny when I compare the wide-eyed wonder that I played Tarmin with back in '82 to the exact same sensations I had playing Skyrim 30 years later. The templates for each are virtually identical, but the march of tech evolution still inspires the same sense of blissful awe decades later.

Reminds me of "Hunt the Wumpus" on the TI-99/4a
