Post a Picture of Your Silly Purchase of the Month.

Oh that's a cool model. How did it turn out once you snapped the supports?

I had the smaller one of the Mars printer for a while. It was just so great for making DND minis. Sadly since I only could play online I gave it to a cousin who got more use out of it. Great fun if rather messy occasional.

My dream scooter was $1100 off for Black Friday. Guess who has a new scooter? ->THIS GUY <-

Over Black Friday I order some Displates - basically metal posters that stay on the wall with magnets. First time buying them. They looked pretty good from the reviews I saw on YouTube. And given my computer room walls were bare I thought they might make an ok edition.

Pretty impressed with them. They are definitely solid, and the image comes out pretty great. Purchased 3 small ones and one large one. All mattes. Did not go with any of the extras like gloss or a frame - which apparently, they crop the image to add.

Was relatively easy to set up and install. Happy that I can easily swap them out if I buy some next Black Friday.

Update: I already purchased another one. My wife commented that it would look nicer if I offset the smaller posters. So after finding there's a 36% off coupon (via the Microsoft Edge coupon finder) I have another Nuka girl poster shipping. Will move the middle poster up a bit and the new poster below that.

Supports came off like a breeze, until my wife snapped a matching pair of whiskers while doing her detail cleaning prep before giving it a base coat.

A few days ago I got some FedEx notifications that I assumed were spam or phishing, since I hadn't ordered anything in a long time. Yesterday, a FedEx package arrived from a sender I didn't recognize. Inside was my Christmas surprise:

Turns out I had backed this over a year ago, and had totally forgotten about it. Spent some time last night reliving the "glory days".

Am having flashback-flashback-flashbacks!

I don't kickstart stuff, but I'm a huge fan of MCDM. So I dropped the money for this. I'm quite excited and hopes it works out well. The system sounds like a lot of fun, and it seems like they covering themselves and preparing very well. I'd like nothing more for it to do good enough to be its own thing. Beyond the kickstarter itself. So yeah.

I'm gonna start streaming this next week, so of course I had to have a physical copy on hand.

But do you have a VGA display?!?!?

Thankfully yes, just upgraded from an EGA/CGA card.

I love "Joystick and mouse optional"
Pshaw!

Yeah, it honestly flies great with a keyboard, I play it on my Hand 386 all the time.

People know that's on Steam and GOG, right?

Oh, I grew up with that game!!!! Never fully figured it out as a kid.

Yes, but some of us like physical manuals and such.

I loved the visual representation of radar waves in that game. Sneaking in between doplers...

So good. So few other sims do that stealth thing so successfully. Megafortress, maybe. That's really it.

Less a purchase than a gift. I love my Hand 386, but apparently, the screen it comes with is garbage. It has no backlight and is terrible at any angle other than straight-on. Thankfully, someone wrote a blog post explaining not only which new screen to buy but how to install it. My wife got me the screen for Christmas, and I successfully installed it today.

Absolutely night and day. I am so excited for this. Now I can see stuff! Yay!

Rip.

And tear.

Until it is DONE.

Of all the kitchen gadgets I've bought over the years, this one is the most frivolous. I love it.

I genuinely can't tell which one the gadget is in that picture.

It’s the fork. It’s made of Rhodium.

Ha! The whole thing is a gadget. Raclette grill. Cheese goes in the dishes underneath to melt from the heat above, and whatever you want smothered in cheese gets grilled on the top. Family polished off at least 7-8 lbs of raclette cheese over the holidays.

And then they polished off 7-8 lbs of laxatives.

The only ever time I've truly eaten "too much cheese" was a French skiing holiday with my friend Pete The Bastard, whose wedding cake was a CHEESE cake - literally three wheels of cheese stacked on top of each other. We went out for dinner after a day on the slopes and had a cheese fondue to start, then a raclette. We then tried and failed to stay out and drink more beer, and eventually, had to waddle back to our chalet and sleep it off.

That was the day I learned about how real the cheese sweats can be.

Pete is such a Bastard.

Possibly the silliest of silly purchases this year so far.

I bought a planetary spirographic WDT espresso agitator to improve my coffee experience.
