Still feel that way about the Smart brand. It hurts even more that my previous one was a bit of a lemon, so I didn't keep it.

Like the design of the Twingo. Might consider it as a replacement if it was available in the States.

Yeah, I did the research, showed my wife a couple of car options and she immediately fell in love with the design of the Twingo. Apparently this will be the last of the line though, at the very least as a diesel/petrol car. The margins on smaller car just aren't there anymore.

As an American I wish car companies sold more small cars like that Renault here. I drive a 2015 Jeep Renegade and it's in some "small" vehicle class, which blows my mind since I think it's quite large.

Good choice on that Renault! It could probably fit in the bed of most new US pickup trucks.

They don't sell them here because nobody buys them. American car buyers love giant pickups and sh*tty crossovers.

I only hear "Renault" when I'm watching Top Gear.

Well that's an odd hearing disorder. You should have a doctor check that out.

Some do, but not all. Probably depends on where you live too. I’m in SoCal. You can’t throw a rock without hitting a Tesla or Prius out here.

My wife wants to get a Prius for her next car. I’m hoping to talk her into an all electric. In ten years, when I’m due for a new vehicle, it’s going to be all electric baby!

Also, at least in the States, any European manufacturer that isn't German or Swedish is looked upon as generally unreliable.

This is true, until gas prices go way up again, then they'll be screaming for smaller cars. Again.

My first car (in the U.S.), was Motor Trend’s AND Car and Driver’s ‘Car of the Year’ - and later their embarrassing/dishonorable award winner- an ‘83 Renault Alliance coupe. Was sitting at a stop light one evening, light turned green, I barely stepped on the gas, car rolled three feet and died.

...three pistons had gone through the block.

Ended up spending about $1200 to source and replace the motor at a junkyard as Chrysler stopped servicing Renault several years before (this was mid-90s), presumably because of the catastrophic failure of the Alliance and their ended partnership with Renault.

To be fair, I learned none of this history until many years later.

After getting $300 for it in a trade for another used car at our local dealership, my dad and I walked away laughing. My step-mom - who was a banker and realized we had just walked away with a $900 loss - was PISSED. My dad and I still both agree we walked away the victors that day.

Good times.

Holy sh*t that is gorgeous.

That’s purty!!!! Can it shoot out torpedos that then spin and reverse course?

Sure, as long you have sufficient manual dexterity and can make appropriate sound effects with your mouth.

My wife got this for our bathroom:

stock photo, because I put a down payment on this bad boy:

(I'm *not* paying MSRP, and I decided not to get auto-open/close because the kids would f*ck that up so quickly)

As long as it has the bootie spritzer, I’m sure you’ll be delighted with it. Congratulations!

Congratulations! I have to say, after spending five years in Japan where damned near every toilet has this level of functionality and is completely separated from where you get clean (shower etc.), coming back to the USA really felt like coming to a developing nation in that respect. "My god, you savages poop next to your shower and then wipe with dry paper? And your bathtub doesn't fill itself on command and keep the water at a perfect temperature? I say!"

On the other hand, I can get a killer burger for next to no money here, so the USA definitely has its benefits.

I feel there's a common thread there between a cheap killer burger and primitive toilets

"They're soft. They're moist."

I think you just proved Japan has it right....I've told my wife a few times, maybe this will be the convincing argument.

Funny you should mention that...

This is one of the lower-end models. You need to check out the Lady Gaga egg. I "noped" the hell away from this one at the showroom, and that was before they told me the price. It also has some pearlescent coating that basically means that, in combination with the UV light, it cleans itself. Nice thought, but I still can't afford to spend a year's worth of mortgage payments on a single crapper.

But Coldstream is absolutely correct. I saw how we behaved like absolute bellends with the hoarding of the TP and I never want to go back to that again.

We were very happy with the Jazz/Fit, it's a super reliable car and its trunk space/car size ratio is still impossible to find elsewhere. But back in 2010 it was our main car, now we have two kids and a dog and I have a big company car. And the current Jazz Hybrid is just not as cost-effective and fuel-efficient compared to its 2021 peers. :-(

Do they have the Insight over there? I think it exceeds their fuel efficiency numbers?

We put Totos in during our remodel. The TP shortage never bothered the Moggy household...

It does probably, but my wife wanted a compact city car not a sedan. I know the definition of what is a "small" car differs between Europe and the US though

I'm not sure this counts since technically work owns this. I used my travel budget to acquire a Onyx Boox Max Lumi eReader. It's A4 size with an amazing e-ink screen. Great for reading and annotating books. I use it for marking papers and making notes while I read articles, but it also has mini-HDMI input so you can use it as a monitor for word processing that is easier on your eyes.

That's great but when are you going to finish Winds of Winter

Yeah, sorry. I was Scrooge-McDucking in my vault of HBO money.
