Post a Picture of Your Silly Purchase of the Month.

Hey, so I've read that for the meshing to work you have to use one of the wifi APs as a gateway router? True?

Orphu wrote:

yes, it would replace your existing router though I am using mine bridged so it's just an access point. I guess I could have just bought an access point and saved $80 but I like the looks as routers and access points are ugly. and it was a piece of cake to set up.
instead of 10-50 Mbps of flaky and spotty wifi I get 150-200!!! i was blown away. I've never had that good of a connection before.

The Hue lights are really cool. I use it with IFTTT to set up profiles between Hue and Google Assistant so I can tell my lights what to do. Super easy to do and fun too.

Consider me curious. I'm wondering if it would help my little home wifi network. I'm in am old stone building and my computer has 2 walls between it and the router. I bought a wifi extender to put in the hallway between. It kind of just acts as a repeater. As long as the doors are open it does alright, but the speeds aren't blazing or anything.

It's hard to say, Rob_A. I don't have any stone walls to deal with, If you don't either than perhaps it would work. I have a smallish house so one GWifi was adequate to cover it all so I'm not making use of the mesh tech. The strength of the unit is good and my internet is 250Mbps down and 20Mbps up. This is why i'm able to get such great speed to start with. My old unit was old tech so it either didn't have the signal strength or was using older tech.

The GWifi is administered through an app, there's no webpage admin. It seems to have a lot of the features one would need to work with the network, such as port forwarding, DHCP, DNS and Wan settings. It doesn't have a lot of features you would get with other routers like a usb port to plug in network peripherals and some of the more detailed network settings.

I'm using it as an access point so I don't make use of all those settings. I've turned off WiFi on my main router and the Google Wifi is the only WiFi access.

The device also only has 2 Ethernet points. One for internet in and the other to connect to a device or a hub. I have it connected to a hub as I connect a few other devices to it.

Awesome! My wife and I both ride in the DC area. Although the weather may not cooperate with your new hobby, especially this year. I think my wife is out for the season with an injury, but I might be up for on 1 or 2 more trips to Whitetail. Hit me up!

I looked into suppressors a while back but not legal in my state. Was the 9 months mostly the registration and baground just for that?

Excellent, whitetail is our place of choice. Next time we're heading up, I'll coordinate. We're doing a family ski/snowboard weekend in the poconos next weekend. This will only be my 3rd time on the slopes and I'm not very good yet but it should be fun!

Nice. And solid choice of firearms for suppressed shooting from what I understand. That Beretta with the locking block barrel is on the very, very short list of larger caliber pistols I would fit a suppressor to.

It was all for the background check. The ATF has a long backlog currently and you can see it here.

I got my can in 06 and it took about 60 days.

Got myself an LG OLED tv and a PS4 Pro.

Having had 4 different Android phones with OLED screens, and experiencing the eventual burn-in, when I updated my TV, I went with an LED-lit LCD, but... Even with the latest LCD technology, I'm starting to think I should've just gone with the OLED.

I looked into the burn-in issue and it's pretty rare for the new LGs to experience any real issues.

And the forum thread: http://www.avsforum.com/forum/40-ole...
They tested the 2015 models in that article but didn't experience anything. It may be worse with phones where the on screen image tends to be fairly static.

I just ordered this Fully Jarvis Bamboo adjustable desk last night since I'm going to be working from home now and my current desk sits about an inch too high and is static.

I went for the Extended range, 60 inch desktop, with grommets. Now I'm looking at fancy new mechanical keyboards with a nice wrist rest.

I couldn't find the complete desk for sell. Do you have to buy the frame and desktop separately?

Here is a link directly to the desk I got. You will just need to tweak your options as you would like.

Fully Jarvis Bamboo Desktop

Just received and tried out my silly purchase (the guitar pedal) and it wasn't a silly purchase at all! It's awesome! What do I do now? Do I delete the post? These are uncharted waters, people! UNCHARTED WATERS!

Choosing a tag might be a start

Never!

Fredrik_S wrote:

Sounds like a good tag to me.

Since it finally hit a price point I could stomach, I picked up one of these. Not sure why I need it, but I sure wanted one, so that makes it silly!

It's the silliest of necessary purchases.

What makes those controllers better?

Swappable d-pad faces, programmable buttons, extra "paddle" buttons on the handles.

bepnewt wrote:

The general construction quality, the D-pad, and the paddle buttons on the back can be set to duplicate whichever buttons you want. By default they replicate the four lettered face buttons so you don't ever have to take your thumb off the right analog stick to do anything. Once you get used to using them going back to a normal controller feels pretty crappy.
