Managing Your Consumption of Media - Not Just My Problem, Apparently

While this article deals with spending your way to happiness I thought it had a couple interesting things to say about this topic.

The authors three big points

Buy fewer material goods and more experiences.
Use money to help others.
Buy fewer expensive pleasures in favor of more frequent, less expensive ones.

I am trying to shift from buying things to buying experiences. It is a hard thing to do because sometimes a thing is an experience. My experience playing a game I bought for example but that is where I hit the 3rd item and try to buy less but more often (which of course leads to a backlog which kind of creates a circular problem.) It certainly is tough.

As one gets older, one comes to term with constantly choosing to miss out on various experiences, media included. Robert Frost's "The Road Less Traveled" sums it up well, but it wasn't a new idea.
