ArcheAge

From the info so far seems ambitious.. they are calling themselves a 3rd Gen MMOG. So we'll see what innovations they attempt to bring.

The video just dropped today

Edit: Darkfall + CryEngine3

They will give you an unprecedented game pleasure.

I must admit some of the things look darn good.

I giggled, and then was in awe.

That's an impressive load of hype. I wish them good luck with that.

It looks and sounds too good to be true, which means it probably is. Visuals of that level combined with deformable/destructible terrain and buildings in an MMO sounds like something you'd need a $4K system to run properly.

I'd love to be wrong, so I'll be sure to keep an eye on it. Here's to hoping it's not yet another Asian hardcore PvP grind-fest that doesn't accomplish half of what it claims to.

Mortal Online tried with the Unreal engine but werent able to get past the technical hurdles.

Hopefully them using the CryEngine3 will give these guys an edge and they can pull everything off!

For sure most of these games start out ambitious but in design then play test and finally crunch half the crap gets left out for " future expansions " only to never see the light of day

The thing is, even if they follow through on the visuals aspect, they are shooting themselves in the foot. This is because it will take them an inordinate amount of time to make future content. So expansions are going to take them longer and cost them more to make.

Seems like they ahve a lot built already. That video was in game. The big question will be the combat and environment interactions.

New beta wave started. Unfortunately nothing for the US yet.

Still new videos showing some game play.

Another video that shows a bunch of different combos.

The first video was like 8 minutes of a dude swimming?

The second one reminded me of Soul Calibur. Good stuff

video of PvP. After posting about Darkfall this makes it look like its from the nintendo age.

Looks beautiful. Then again, so did many others. I wonder how a Chinese company will handle gold farmers.

The rogue stealth one hit kills do not inspire...

Looks like a fairly squishy character though. Mage/Bard/Archer? Squishy/Squishy/Somewhat-not-squishy in most games. I used to get tore up in WoW as a mage by rogues. And most of those one hit kills look as though the rogue was catching the mage off guard. I saw a couple times the mage caught the rogue heading up, and the rogue never got close. So I wouldn't judge too quickly just from this video.

New combat video. Plus... they now have mother f*cking gliders!

With snakes.

The game certainly looks interesting, but these videos were just brilliant.

Wonder if/when this comes out to the US... looks like it might still be some time.. unless its happening in stealth in parallel (translations etc.)

I'd say it's still 1/2 years out. They're working on the China release right now.

Korean Open beta is in full swing.

Just one of the videos out is from an instanced dungeon:

Ugh...depressing...I stopped watching at around 3:15...the boss mob standing there patiently waiting for each couple minions to be pulled away separately....yeah was doing that in 1986.

and 96, 2006, and probably 2016...

Depressing... But it does appear that instanced dungeons are far from the only thing to do in ArcheAge.

Oh lord yes... i've not had the time to keep up with all the new videos coming out of beta.

They have player housing, a jail system... just to name a couple of cool points.

I love the design philosophy that bounties will thwart the griefing pk predators. Even without the bounty system this idea has been thwarted with what is essentially double griefing.

It is really simple. One friend griefs a player. The griefed player posts a bounty or a third party offers to grief the pker for a fee. The third party is actually a friend of the griefer so essentially, you are paying someone to grief you and they laugh all the way to the bank.

This has happened as far back as UO and probably as far back as the first mmo (game?) that allowed players to kill each other.

I've not found a detailed english explanation of the jail system yet. So not sure how this is implemented, but ya there's even been guilds built on the idea of griefing the griefers along with those other shenannigans.

Big news today is that XLGames' ArcheAge will partner with Trion for its western release including North American and parts of Europe. Every post I've seen so far on this is very surprised and very happy that Trion was chosen.

Since SoE seems to be getting out of distributing mmos it pretty much left it wide open. Trion is shaping up to be one of the better MMO houses out there. Rift has been pretty solid, and Defiance is shaping up to be another feather in their cap.
