Pile of Shame March Madness

Pages

I believe there's some sort of college sporting tournament or something this month, hence the title of the thread. I vote we go crazy and use the TV/monitor for pile games and skip the college athletics.

If you're interested, m0nk3yboy, has the 12 month pile plan thread over here.

A quick reminder, in order to be considered "Pile of Shame" the game needs to be at least three months old. Otherwise, it's just a new game you haven't gotten to playing yet.

Also, if you are curious about some of the previous threads, Pick's of the Pile, etc... Please go here and check out the Google doc I setup.

Let's get on to the games!

This month's Pick of the Pile is

Dragon Age 2 comes out this month, so my pile attack will be small. Torchlight (PC) and Pacman CE DX (XBLA) will be my attempts.

Given that I'm waiting to see if DA2 will be a buggy mess like DA: Awakening, I have two pile games to start the month off with:

1. I'm working my way through Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light (DS) right now. It feels like I'm about halfway done.
2. I polled readers on my blog, and they chose Knights of the Old Republic (PC) as my next big title to tackle.

If report come back that DA2 is, in fact, quality software instead of bugware I'll pick that up.... otherwise, I'll add more pile games near the midway point of the month.

Keep me down for CivCity: Rome for now, but I may have to bail on it if it keeps crashing in the middle of missions.

Sign me up for Dante's Inferno and Epic Mickey.

Metro 2033 on the 360, please!

As predicted, I did not complete Dragon Age yet, so I will roll that over to March. I am around 40 hours in, and I still think I am around 20-25% through the story. I've discovered that I need to play the game a lot more tactically as I move through it, the early battles were easily won through brute force, but these later battles are really forcing me to think a lot more tactically than I was previously.

I don't think I can commit to anything else right now, but I may be able to finish something else off like an XBLA title before the month is up.

My goal is to finish Dante's Inferno by the end of the week before my family comes home. I just made it to the City of Dis, so I assume that I'm about half-way through. The combat really clicked for me last night, and I've been having a blast.

Unless the game really tanks in its second half, I'm already thinking about a second playthrough to explore the unholy abilities and pick up any collectibles I've missed. Heck, I'm even considering buying one of the DLC packs, and I never buy DLC. (Although most of the games I really like don't have DLC, so maybe I'm just not given the opportunity often enough.)

A combination of there being a lot of shiny new stuff out this month and my recent completion of Gray Matter (which is excellent) means I'm in the mood for a little light point n' clicking.

So, going to try to finish off Back to the Future Episode 1, Lost Horizon, and take another shot at Dark Fall : Lost Souls while i'm at it.

I see I'm already down for DA:O, which I still plan to have done before DA2 lands in a week (plus shipping time). I will also toss Jeanne d'Arc up there, since I'm in Ch. 3 already, and I suspect that I'll be able to finish it this month during my commute time.

Back to the Future is too new. It will be eligible next month.

I'll sign up for the Fallout 3 DLC + Puce's content and DoW2. I really need to finish those up.

I'll be carrying over X-Men Origins Wolverine (PS3) as well as adding Mega Man 9 (WiiWare) to the list after being inspired by AusTbird. Both are multi-platform, of course.

I may be breaking from PC gaming for a while as Burnout Paradise is the only game I'm playing worthy of pile addition and I don't think I'll be pushing to finish that any time soon. This may be a good thing as I've been heavy on the PC for the last year since I built my computer in Feb.

doesnt matter, finished it anyway

Continuing with FFXIII. Long JRPG is Long.
Also, Metro 2033 on PC. But I'm taking my time with it. I just got out of a brutal checkpoint situation in a bandit lair.

Thanks for bringing Castlevania over, Hemidal.

Also plan on finishing The Witcher before the sequel's release. I've made a community thread for it here.

Put me down for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords: colon: colon; semicolon. On the PC.

And less than 24 hours into the month Alan Wake is down. Annoying, because if I had actually turned it on last night I could have finished. I barely had an hour left, and that was because I kept walking off of things and falling to my doom.

Oh well, it's off the pile anyway. Oddly, it's the first 360 game I've ever played to completion, so I guess that's worth something.

Dunno if I'm going to put anything else on the stack to replace it; I've still got my EU game running. Plus DA:2 is coming out this month and I expect it to consume a ridiculous amount of my time.

ETA: OK, putting down Dragon Age: Awakening. Guess I should finish it before picking up DA:2.

Let's see.. I want to finish Dead Space 2 and Bulletstorm this month, but neither of those count yet, and much of what I have left is kind of long, so I don't want to commit to too much. I guess, put me down for Mass Effect 2. Considering I have all the DLC for ME2 to play through as well, that might be too high a goal, especially since I want to put some more time into each of Sacred 2 and Baldur's Gate this month also. Gonna try anyway, and I suppose it's okay if the two newer games slip a bit.

Sign me up for Devil May Cry 3.

I newly purchased Rock Band 3 and my keyboard just arrived today so I'm not sure how much other gaming I'll actually get done this month.

Slow month last month, so put me down for rolling over Dragon Age Origins. Might add a few more undeclared as the end of March nears.

I've Preordered DA2, but I'm with AndrewA in terms of waiting for the dust to settle on that one.

Yah, I am pretty excited and have just been waiting for the right time when I could really devote the time to the game.

I too have preordered DA2 - but am seriously considering canceling the order, and just waiting for the GOTY version. I have enough games on my pile right now already.

Cancel, cancel! Who knows how buggy the game will be after the mess that was DA:Awakening. Much better to wait a few months until it gets patched up (if needed) and save frustration AND money.

How's that?

I've been working on Divine Divinity (PC) off and on since its release. I got stuck about 5 years ago and quit for a while and recently looked to resume, only to find out that I had to use a much older save file than anticipated as the more recent ones were lost. Well, I went from level 23 to 39, got past the point I was stuck on, and am cruising towards the end. It should go down quickly.

All 8 robot masters in Mega Man 9 (Wiiware/multi) have been defeated, but Dr. Wily's castle A) is really hard! B) is several stages! and C) you cannot save between sections, apparently! It will likely be frustrating, and might take more than just March, but I'll work on it.

I just installed Call of Juarez (PC, maybe multi?) for the first time and like what I've seen of the first level, even though the main character's voice annoys me. I really loved Gun and am glad that western-themed games are showing up more frequently nowadays.

----------

Those are my March pledges for now; a bit light for my standards, but I'll also plow through Back to the Future episodes 2 and 3 this month (too new), and I just began Infinite Space (DS) yesterday and see myself investing a bunch of time in it this month. It's been out for a year, but I just bought it, so it's "new and shiny" to me.

Oh, which one?

I really enjoyed Call of Juarez despite it being a little rough around the edges. Some sections are too long for their own good, thus the gameplay samey, but luckily you switch your role the next chapter. Very smart. Hope you enjoy it!

Well, I just began, so the kid's voice =/

As I will be joining the throng of gamers playing Dragon Age II, I doubt I will get much off my pile.

That said, I will attempt to finish off Forza 3 (meaning finish season 6).

The only flaw in that plan is the DLC for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood may chew up my non-DA2 playtime...

Sign me up regardless!

I pre-ordered to get the signature edition, so it's worth it for me not to cancel. Download the demo, and see how it feels, as I know the combat changes seem to be the main bone of contention on the interwebs at the moment. I know I'll get to this before the year is through, so GOTY is off the table as it won't be out before then (I hope, reserves space for kicking myself later in the year if wrong).

Red Dead Redemption for me this month.

Batman AA this month. I wasn't feeling it on my first try but now I can see what all the fuss was about. The game is a bit old school sometimes in just leaving you to figure stuff out on your own (it'd help if I remembered to use detective mode) but I'm getting very excited for Arkham City.
