Hawken - Catch All

New mech FPS by Adhesive Games. It looks really well done for only nine months of development.

Darn! I hoped this was a long overdue sequel to Wolfen.

Huh, looks pretty nice. Been a long time since we had a good mech game.

Just the other day I was talking with an old friend about favorite intro cinematics to games and was reminiscing about the one from Mechwarrior 2. That was one of my all time favorite openings to a game.

The visuals are cool looking. Hopefully it has game play to back it up.

Reminds me a bit of Battlezone.

Ours is a mech that transforms into a hawk.

This game looks amazing. I saw the first movie on PC gamer about a month ago and it looks great. This latest movie though is fantastic!

=0

fancy!

Oooh, this looks better than the other video they released.

I guess there's a couple of dudes from Project Offset working on this. The art is pretty incredible.

It takes a lot for a gameplay video to impress me but this one did. The sound effects in the game are seriously good. It just has this crunch to it that makes the game feel real. Hard to believe they could reach this level of polish in only 9 months.

It did, actually. And that is really cool. Battlezone was a very underloved game.

I'm intrigued. I've been on a sort of giant robot bender lately. I bought Front Mission Evolved; I'm on the verge of buying Armored Core For Answer; I'm eagerly awaiting the new Battletech; I have a just-delivered copy of Neon Genesis Evangelion: You Can [Not] Advance sitting on my desk. I'm even reviving my giant robot tabletop RPG.

If these guys bring their game to market before my high fades I might buy it twice.

Needs less great. Maybe a lighting engine tweak. Other than that, looks fantastic.

That looks significantly better than the video they released just a few weeks ago. That first preview vid lacked any blending between a lot of the movement animations and seemed very rough. For such a short time difference this already looks way, way smoother.

Definitely going to keep my eye on this one.

I'd rather have Offset, or at least what could've been from what was publicly shown, but their artistic excellence is clearing making a mark on Hawken. Best overall package I've seen from any UDK game.

I cried a little. I don't pvp cause nothing has ever even come close to mechwarrior. I can't wait to own all you guys. I have been waiting almost 10 years for a worthy mech remake and this really looks like its going to be "the one".

I want this.

Less great, more awesome!

The last video was choppy due to network limitations-- it was all recorded during an online play session from a spectator camera. I don't know if the network limitation was due to low bandwidth or unclean code, but I'm assuming the former since this is all within UDK and Unreal already has good net code.

My buddy (also a game artist like myself) thinks this doesn't look so great for 9 months of work out of 9 guys, but I think it's amazing what they've accomplished regardless of the time spent-- having worked (or tried to work) on volunteer/indie teams before, I can say that it is HARD to stay motivated and productive for more than a month, let alone produce something as detailed as this.

Does it support IMAGE(http://thegamersabstract.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/steel-battalion-controller.jpg) ? If not then can we REALLY call it a mech simulation?

It looks really fantastic, but too hectic for my tastes. It's like Mechwarrior, but with a 30 ton max weight limit. I was never really a big fan of the Jenner and others of its class; about the lightest Mech I ever got into was the 35 ton class.

Yeah it looks great, but it doesn't look like a Mechwarrior replacement. Has there been any word on if this has location-based damage, the ability to destroy limbs or weapons? Can you customize your mechs?

You can at least customize loadouts. There were two different weapons configurations shown in the video that Bill Harris posted on Dubious Quality, and I think someone linked it here too.

That's because you're a coward who hides behind big guns and armor.

I know it looks awesome and fun and stuff, but I think the correlations being made to Mechwarrior are wishful thinking. Especially after watching the gameplay video, I see this as something far more akin to Unreal Tournament with a bad-ass-looking mech combat skin. But nothing in the gameplay or the HUD indicated to me the levels of gameplay depth that Mechwarrior provided. Maybe it is (or will be) there and I just haven't seen or realized it yet, but I just don't see that depth so far.

I also got a first person shooter vibe out of it. Although, there were weapon overheats, multiple weapons available at once, and jump jets. So, potentially it'd be a pretty awesome FPS!

It doesn't look like the mechs can take much of a beating.

Better that than a coward who flees the field of battle and refuses a stand up engagement.

I'm sorry, I've got restless mech-leg syndrome.

This video made me giddy when I first saw it. Looks like Unreal engine?
