iRacing catch-all

Really sorry to hear that Mountaineer. Hope the travel is at least for fun and not business.

It is for fun, thankfully, but it's something I could have very easily done (and would have) next weekend. Not one of my finer moments you might say.

Nice lap...took some pointers from it and ran a 142.5 with 12 gallons of fuel. Needless to say I won't be running anywhere near that fast Saturday.

Lactose how was your race last night? I watched for a few minutes around halfway and you were doing well but then had to leave.

I ended up donig ok - 3rd in the class and I was faster than all the GT cars except for one (I spun twice too). Really helps to run a longer race with traffic.

thanks for asking

Glad that video helped you out Jimmy.

I talked with a couple other drivers from VRS and they gave me some tips for setting up a car for qualifying. I was able to improve my lap by quite a bit: 1:40.527. Fast enough to be in the top 25 at least for now And I'm the lowest IRating driver of the bunch.

Way to go Distant! That's a hell of a lap!

Wow, that's hauling!

Your previous video was helpful, realize I can brake harder, and can improve mid and corner exit, so pretty much the whole corner. It's funny how I get into a rthym with things and resist pushing a bit harder at times.

Looked at your VRS of that stint, though just qualy, your right rear tire temps are at 260deg, seems to much but may be ok for qual. What's the consensus on that on iRacing? Is it same as real world, if so that's too much temps. Here's an interesting article where they shoot for 180-220, also interesting about out lap and "Wall of Fames".

FYI, I wouldn't analyze the telemetry from the my fastest Q lap. The cambers are maxed out to be aggressive in the slow corners and less rolling resistance on the straights.

As for tire pressures, I'm not 100% on all of the numbers, but I do know you can't compare them to real life. The general approach is to keep the tires as low as possible for maximum grip and that all 4 tires should be close in pressure after 10 laps. Looking at several VRS setups and one from Craig Williams. Their starting tire pressures are between 124-127kpa in the left and 121-127kpa to the right. I haven't done enough long runs to really finalize what they should be but they will at least stay within that range.

David showed my the other night how to launch the car from a stop. I had been starting off real slow until it got going. If you have the pit speed limiter on, get the revs up and drop it into first gear, it will take off real quick, just watch a bit for wheel spin. Could save 3-5 seconds per pit stop. Maybe you guys knew that.

Here is my lap

I'm eyeing the double stint about 2/3 the way through. I'm still having some issues with my PC. I've reinstalled just about everything Oculus and graphics card related with some success. I seem to loose framerate and thus control of the car sporadically and I'm concerned that it could cause me to wreck. If anyone wants to race (more) feel free. If there are no takers I'll do my best.

Hey Jesse, lets try to get you into the race with a backup driver is you can't get your hardware resolved.

I have update the spreadsheet and rearranged a couple of timeslots to fit Jesse in. If Jesse can't make it, I have Jimmy and myself as backup drivers. Please review and let me know if it is ok or you have concerns. The biggest change is to Jimmy.

My IR is around 1,350. Will it help our cause if I am logged on at race start? Not sure what kind of split everyone desires to be in?

Feel free to register with us. It averages out our IRating and puts us closer to where we should be.

The final stint of the Daytona 24 race.

That was fun, dudes! Thanks.

Great job everyone!

Had a great time - thanks all

That was a blast!

Looking at the results last night, lactose with 1 incident, Jimmy - 4, Jesse - 5, ...really? You guys need to use more of the track and adjacent runoff like me...lol, team record 78 incidents thank you.

How did we fair? It sounds like we were able to make it to the end, which is an accomplishment itself.

For those who haven't already seen it; this is 'The Big One' that put us in the pits for an hour.

Maybe I should have zigged instead of zagged?

BTW, the first car hit - the Ford GT - was the GTE leader.

Yes, we finished, which is awesome in itself. In GTE class 15th place, 17th Overall.

All of us drove steady, solid stints with good decisions, which as Distant pointed out early is what is needed. We also had some good luck not being sucked in to some nasty crashes near us, and then the bad luck with the Yellow Merc driver in Petrol's video.

You made the right choice, I would have made the same decision, no way to know it would roll left. SPIN = BOTH FEET IN!!!! This would have let you drive by the Merc on the left as intended. I see "Pro" drivers carreening all over the track because they don't follow this rule.

I replayed this (and earlier after T3) while in sim, and in looking at the video overhead view towards the end, it may be somewhat accidental. The Merc knew he was there because he stayed left going into T4, you can see the GT's lights flashing on the side him before he even gets alongside. The Merc drifted a bit wide after T4 apex, and the GT started moving left too soon. Just another 2 feet and they would have cleared each other...arggh.

The only thing I wonder about is whether or not the Mere was holding the brake after the accident. I can't tell whether he's holding the brake but the momentum is keeping him from coming to a stop as quickly as I would anticipate, or if he's just letting the car roll wherever it wants to go.

If option A, then I think it's just an unfortunate racing accident and a "wrong place, wrong time" deal
if option B, then that boo that driver

Either way it sucks.

Too soon?

Too soon for me, I'm eyeing the 12hrs of Sebring. With the numbers we had at Daytona 24 hrs, we could field 2 teams

I'd be up for it.

I'm in - when is it (probably should have asked that first)?
