Why Was I Banned?

The reason it seems worse on 360 is the prevelance of voice chat with strangers. And maybe a bit of the lower price/complexity barrier to entry.

PC doesn't have that many games that support voice with strangers (that people actually use). You see a lot of crap in text, but it's a pain to type mid game and it's easy to just ignore it and let it scroll by. In general, if people are going to use voice chat on PC they do it with people they know in Vent, Teamspeak, Skype, etc.

PS3 probably doesn't see as much because way less people seem to have headsets.

There are idiots everywhere. Xbox makes them stand out a bit more due to how easy it makes communication and how many people have Xboxes. On the other hand, party chat is an awesome and easy way to stay away from the unwashed masses.

PC gamers are elitist pricks.

Does that even out the discussion now?

Preposterous, I damn near dropped my monocle into my brandy! If the plebeians on their Hex boxes or whatever the rabble call them these days insist on carrying on like a rabble on their gauche systems, you need not drag we fine and upstanding landed PC gentry into the fracas.

Spoiler:

Even while writing this my inner monologue was a caricature of Churchill.

If I was half my age and not already married I'd ask XBLPETJuliet to marry me. Hell, I still want her to have my babies.

Yeah, I blame this on how well-integrated the LIVE service is with the Xbox. They're a victim of their own success in some ways.

I know there are cretins on any online service, but XBLA seems to be some kind of honey-trap for them.

I commend the mods for not being either suicidal or raging alcoholics.

Probably Xbox 360 owners...

Because all Xbox 360 owners act like trash talking little kids? How hard do you think it would be for me to find a video of a child talking trash on Counter Strike or any other popular PC game for that matter?

Well, see, I was kind of just making a sarcastic comment (that totally didn't come off to anyone, my fail). I had responded to DT's comment about Xbox Live being some terrible place by putting up a video of a girl on a PS3. I kind of assumed (yeah, that's a problem) that I was, if anything, considered a 360 fanboy. I'm not really a fanboy, but it is my console of choice, I miss the Sony Haterade thread dearly, and I think PC gaming is pretty much dead. So it was supposed to be funny that I said they would grow up to be 360 owners, since I pretty much assumed that everyone in this thread would understand that this was a silly supposition.

I think multiplayer on the 360 is awesome becasue I don't ever play in random games. The times I do, I don't wear a headset. But 99% of the time, I'm playing with friends from here or elsewhere. It's an awesome system.

And I agree. The issues that plague pub games on XBL are identical on PSN and the PC if you start playing games against random pubtards. But those problems really don't bother me all that much, because I don't see a real value in playing strangers.

So, uh, sorry for causing all that cancer and stuff. (KITH reference).

The people that complain about the unwashed masses on XBL are just doing it wrong. Microsoft created an awesome system (except for the 100 person limit from your friends list) for playing games with lots of people without ever having to play with pubtards.

I do play a lot of sports games, and sometimes I will play some games against randoms, but I just never wear a headset, becasue it is a darn terrible place to find friends. I will have a terrible DNF stat becasue the moment I get a hint that my opponent is cheeser or a glitcher, I just quit. I have no need to finish out a game that is not fun. And when I'm playing NCAA 11 with Goodjers, my DNF rate isn't an issue.

I don't know, I think the novelty of employing a seven-year-old girl to constantly smack-talk the opposing team would give you a real competitive edge in some matches.

I will say this - I have made more of a point in my BC2 days of giving people positive reviews when I see them spend a couple rounds being good team players, trying for objectives, assigning squad orders, etc. It has paid off because I do notice myself being assigned to games with some of them more often.

BC2 is one of the games that mitigates the effect of the idiots. It breaks people up into groups of four, and doesn't even give them a chance to taunt the other team between rounds.

I think the reason you see it more on 360 than PC is because it's allowed to go on. When I played CS a lot I had to put up with kids, but kids don't have their own vent or CS servers so for them it's behave or be banned.

So now I suck as a KITH fan, too! This day just keeps getting worse.

I had not seen that bit in decades, to be honest. But it was one of my favorites.

I think I've seen this recently on GWJ, but it bears repeating. As with many things, Yahtzee said it best:

I thought it would be an amusing video. Then I heard the first words out of her mouth: "You know what, {racist slur}-boy?", and I had to shut it off.

In the end I still believe, regardless of what others say, that there are certain games and consoles that attract worse behavior. I've seen generally good behavior on BFBC2 on the 360. I've rarely been angry after playing an online match there and I've put over 100 hours into that game online. With COD BLOPS, on the other hand, I found some amazing griefing, spawn camping and trash talking within an hour of first putting the game in.

I understand, don't play with the pubbies... The problem is that when I first got my 360 you could play with the pubbies. I played games of Backgammon with dudes who were really cool and taught me to play the game better. I played games of Uno with random people who were at least amusing. I played lots of sports games online and almost always had my headset on and had random conversations with people all of the time.

In the few short years since then, though, the scum have ruined it. Now the same people who put their headset on to chat at the first probably don't any longer. I rarely hear a random pubbie with a headset on who isn't a complete idiot. So what they've effectively done is ruined voice chat for the people who would use it and who would like to be able to play public matches. That's why whenever this topic comes up I really am not a big fan of the "just play with your friends" answer. I don't always have time to play with my friends. I often don't, in fact. Often I just have enough time to pop the game in and play with pubbies. I would pay good money for a tiered solution where being a jerk got you kicked out of XBox Live Platinum and I could guarantee a chance to play with decent humans. I don't think that's a crazy notion.

I agree with you DS, I wish they were more vigilant in actually doing bans. Even if everyone on that team just banned a few people a day, I wonder what difference it would make.
