BEER Thread!

I do believe I've found a new favorite beer: Lagunitas Day Time. It's a very nice IPA with some excellent citrus-ey, florally hoppiness. The best thing about it is that it has less than 5% alcohol content so that it doesn't knock you on your ass like most IPAs. I highly recommend it!

Here's a picture of it that I did not take:

Glad I didn't cave on the 2007-2012 six pack at Belmont Station for $200. Ouch. (Thanks for the heads up on Belmont, Tuffalo! That place is crazy awesome).

I back tuffalo on this one, it's good!
Tonight I tried burnside brewing's sweet heat and it was original. First you taste the sweet of the apricot, then you get the burn from the peppers.

Beer is coming

HBO is set to announce that it will team up with Brewery Ommegang, a Belgian-style brewery in Cooperstown N.Y., to create beers based on themes and characters in the fantasy series adapted from the novels by George R. R. Martin.

...

hm.

k. If it's really based off of the novels, every 6 pack should have a 2 page summery describing the beer in excruciating details stabled to it.

Ugh. This is a really dumb idea. Talk about a blatant cash grab.

A co-worker, who I give a ride home to once a week, surprised me with a Grandville Island Winter Mingler 12 pack as a thank you. I've heard good things about Grandville, so this is shaping up to be a delicious Christmas break!

FTFY.

sthpoilerths!

It occurs to me that these will likely be sealed in wax like those awesome bottles from... sassy brewing? idk, that MN brewery.

And if they aren't sealed in wax with a house seal on them, they've dropped the ball.

Surly. The wax thing has become a big deal for lots of breweries who want to take a $6 bomber and suddenly be able to charge $20 for it; they've popped up everywhere lately.

They sell Ommegang beer at a Trader Joe's near me. I'll need to look for that.
I currently have a bottle of their Abbey Ale waiting on my shelf for a special occasion. It had a cork and a wire cage to seal it, no wax IIRC.

Wax must be expensive.

Man, I used to work right next to Grandville Island. I would love to go back there and try out some of the local breweries in Vancouver.

For anyone folks in the Charlotte Area or that are visiting...

This is my favorite favorite FAVORITE bar. VBGB=Very Big German Beer

It's got a fantastic selection of beers that are ever changing, super smart bartenders when it comes to beer as well. It's my happy place.

Well worth a visit.

It's a cash grab that will work. The folks that are putting on the Game of Thrones convention asked me if I could carry this stuff for it. In our area Ommegang is only available through a distributor that I don't work with though, so we won't be able to get it.

I'm willing to buy in to this cash grab. Hell, I'd try anything Ommegang put out anyway, and having it be tied to GoT adds a little bit of extra fun. Count one more as excited.

Don't give in. At the worst, enjoy Daytime by Lagunitas. It's the best IPA ever made.

It's entirely possible that I'll be at the Lagunitas brewery next week, so I'll try it there if I can!

I have to take a look for that Lagunitas Daytime beer. I had their Hop Stoopid, which was pretty good, but obviously very hoppy. Being an IPA lover, I did enjoy it mucho.

+1

It's a strong (8% A.B.V) and off the charts for "hoppiness" beer. Definitely an IPA lover's brew.

The liquor store I go to had a bottle sitting out at the tasting bar, but it was empty and they didn't have anymore.

Same. I'd be skeptical if it were coming from somewhere else, but I've never known Ommegang to put out a bad beer.

Heheh... I must have switched to stronger IPAs back when I wrote "It's the best IPA ever made." I should have said "It's the best IPA I've had "

I bought a few of the Avery Mephistoheles stout. I'll report back, but at 16.2%, I may not be very cogent.

I believe my description of that one was along the lines of "sugary, syrupy apocalypse of pure malty sh*t".

My local beer store ordered up 12 each of Stone's 3-3-3 up through 12-12-12 (Ohio got basically no bottles of 1 an 2).

I was told 3 was bad, so I picked up a 4. Really looking forward to giving it a shot.

There was no 1; 02-02-02 was the first one released. The 02 was done in very limited quantities, so much that it was selling on Ebay for hundreds of dollars a few years ago. I've had 03 through I think 08, and, meh. Great marketing campaign, but the idea was allegedly that you'd age all these beers and open them on 12/12/12. None of them aged well, and then Stone backed off and suggested that all the bottles should have been kept at fridge temperature, killing off the whole idea of "aging".

They marketed well, but the beer was so-so at best when fresh, and almost exclusively godawful aged.

baaaaaaaaah. Into the fridge it goes.
