WHAT?!

I went from WTF? to Awesome! pretty quickly after watching the trailer.

Yup, can't (much) argue with quality.

I am none too pleased.

It might just be coincidence because I'm writing an article for my blog about Krueger's shift in focus from murderer to pedophile and back in his film franchise. I'm realizing that I've bought the season pass to play an undead whack-a-doo kiddie toucher. Once the article is done I will probably stop overthinking it but I'd rather he had Englund's face instead of Earl Haley's.

When did this shift happen?

I'm only familiar with the first few Nightmare films from the 80's (heart).

Anyway, I'm liking the idea of Freddy in MK the more I think about it. I haven't purchased any of the DLC characters, but I'll be getting this one on Day One.

I want a level that plays out through a neighborhood alley or high school, with destructible environs that lead to new sections like a bedroom or to the boiler room.

Why does he have two knife hands... Oh well, I'll go with it.

Did you see the giant blades that come out of the ground move?

To be honest, I always thought he was a kiddie toucher, it was just more implied instead of stated in the original origin story.

I had my eye on this puppy since I fell for MK9 during last year's launch window. It was hard to justify the cost back then, but all those sterling reviews over aesthetics, functionality and build quality had me following the price closely for the past 10 months. I finally lucked out and saw an unopened copy going for a song on eBay and pounced on it.

When it arrived I was taken aback by how solid and heavy it was (16 lbs.?). Damn this thing is well put together. I hooked it up and promptly started getting my butt kicked by the game's A.I. What I didn't take into account is the fact that I haven't played MK in the arcades for over 15 years (MK3). For that matter, it's been at least that long since playing any coin-op arcade machine with more than one button.

So while I was accustomed to playing MK9 with the 360 pad, a full-on arcade stick was a completely different beast that really threw me off. I'm relearning that instead of controlling virtually all button commands with a single thumb, I have to use my whole hand to navigate around the button layout. It's quite alien after all these years, but only a day or so later, the long-lost muscle memory is slowly coming back. Slowly.

I was a tad apprehensive at first, but the more comfortable I'm getting with it, the more I'm loving it. One thing's for sure, special moves and fatalities are about a million times easier to pull off than with the standard game pad.

Looks like a very nice stick. My only complaint would be that it is too MK specific. The 6th button being off by itself would be an issue for me. Looks like it's a better stick than the SF SE one released recently which is tough as that stick is very nice (love mine).

MK9 will be featured in this week's 1v1 fight nights. Check out the thread and join us! http://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/1...

Shao Khan is bullsh*t.

There's something awesome to the fact that this exact phrase has been uttered for nineteen years.

It's so true though. I can make my way to him using a variety of moves and combos, but when I get to him, I have to find a cheesy way to beat him. It's easiest when you've got a ranged attack with a short animation, so you can dodge his spear and hammer.

Yeah, it would be different if he was just complicated. Instead they go for the still lazy after this many years strategy of "let's just give him eighty bajillion hitpoints".

It's really lame, and it doesn't feel like an accomplishment to win. It just feels like I found the right super cheesy stupid strategy.

Also, giving a bunch of uninterruptable attacks makes him even dumber than he was way back in the SNES/Genesis days.

When it ceases to be fun, you've done something wrong.

I was really enjoying the MK singleplayer up until this point. But unlike Lui Kang, Raiden can't just cheese the living sh*t out of one move and manage to win, so this fight is just frustrating and really annoying. Tempted to watch the ending cinematic on youtube and just never bother with the SP again.

Use a lot of jump kicks, and then warp/superman. He doesn't react fast enough.

Also try spamming lightning from across the map.

I tried this first, because fireball was what worked with Lui Kang. He eventually just does his special move where he charges forward multiple times, and while I hit him during one and slow him down, he's closed distance and the second one brings him right up next to me.

I did eventually do it by abusing teleport and uppercuts. If you get him near one side of the level you can teleport then uppercut, wait for him to get about halfway through his stand animation, and then teleport and do an uppercut again because he'll start an attack instantly every single time while you're close to the side of the arena. You'll appear behind him every time and have plenty of time for the uppercut.

It's incredibly stupid.

Never playing the story mode again.

Well, you don't get Koins for it the second time so that's probably for the best =)

That battle almost made me fling my controller in rage. Thankfully the challenges in the Tower, while still difficult at times, are not quite so anger inducing.

Just finished story mode not to long ago. I ended up setting it to beginner to defeat Shao Khan. The only problems I had was with the first or second double team. I don't know the rules of mortal kombat but it doesn't seem fair that I don't get partner. Also had a minor problem with the 3 on 1 undead fight but that was nothing compared to Shao Khan.

By far the best story mod of any fighter I played.
