Mortal Kombat - Katch All

Actually they do state that you need to meet the objectives, it's the big banner that scrolls on top of the screen before the round starts. Personally, I missed it a bunch of times because I always skip right past those things, but they do give you directions.

I was also not impressed by the complete lack of manual. It's particularly noticeable when you try to play online, realize there are tons of options, and none of them are explained.

Each objective you need to complete is in the lower right-hand corner in the form of a small checklist. I did the same thing, then watched my cousin do the same thing. It's poorly designed.

I bought this yesterday, any of you guys up for some online vs?

Online is still kind of garbage. It makes SF4's netcode look like a flawless gem. That said, I'm only 28 challenges away from the top of the tower now....

Finally caved and ordered my first MK game since MK2 on the SNES. The last fighter I really played was Soul Caliber at the dreamcast launch so this should be a change. Does the fight roster start out unlocked or is it like PSX era Tekken where beating the game with each character opens another?

I took the time to sand out the d-pad well on one of my 360 controllers. It's great to be able to move to the right without constantly jumping. I need to do this to the rest of them.

All but two fighters are unlocked from the get-go, I believe.

Funny, this is my exact same story too.

Honestly, it was all the talk about the large amount of single player content and references to Soul Calibur's Mission mode that pushed me over the edge. It is not that I'm completely uninterested in trying multiplayer, but depending on how good the netcode is and how matchmaking works I don't really want to count on that being the fun part for me.

@Mister Magnus- Thanks for the info. Glad to hear it starts out with most characters unlocked.

(No seriously, it is. I got super jazzed when I heard how much single-player content is in the game.)

whenever I jump onto MP for any game. (Tekken, MvC, streetfighter) i get destroyed. There's some darn good players out there.
MK is great. Tons of replay offline. And I don't get me arse beat too bad. =P

I played 1 ranked match online and won. After that, I decided to retire from ranked matches with a winning record.

The game is still new so this is a good time to get in on the ground floor and test the waters in MP. Lots of Scorpion players, so it's not like you'll be forced to constantly adapt your tactics to different fighters.

And no-one on the PS3 has been able to play any online at all yet, so hopefully I'll be able to win at least 1 match (unlike SSF4 on 360!)

Picked this game up yesterday on PS3. My left thumb is a bit sore today

Having lots of fun with the story mode. Can't wait for PSN to get back online. I want to get destroyed by some goodjers.

They just had one of the game designers on the stream for the big 21k PDP Tournament and were asking him about the netcode. To paraphrase he said they've already made "Dramatic improvements" to the netcode that will be rolled out in the next patch which is certainly promising.

That's... kind of too bad. I was feeling pretty good about myself what with the whupping on people yesterday. But if I have to take my show on the internet...

*shudder*

There goes my self-confidence. Right out the window.

I'm eagerly awaiting this. I only play after work with a co-worker now, because the online is simply unplayable.

Looks like my Kombat Kode, needed to play online, has to go through the PSN store which is not yet online. Joy. <3 DRM. There's a 2 day pass available, so that's nice. I haven't practiced much, but if any PS3 owners want to get their fight on shoot me a message.

I am terrible at this game and will welcome being punished for my inadequate play once the PS Store is back up and I can redeem my kode.

With PSN finally being up, I went ahead and started my 48 hour trial this morning. Matchmaking either wasn't working or no one was playing. So I went ahead and joined a server and played a few versus matches by randomly inviting guys from the room. I found one guy of similar skill level and went 1-1 against him, fought another guy who barely moved the whole match and won easily, but then was destroyed by several guys. I'm not good at this game at all. I tried to join several king of the hill matches but kept receiving a "this server no longer exists" message and couldn't get in. Once finally in a koth room, I repeatedly was destroyed.

I'm also very surprised by the number of players that already have hundreds of matches under their belts even though PSN has only been up a couple of days. I saw a lot of guys that are 3XX-5X or 3XX-6X.

I also declined several invites from guys who somehow have exactly 1000 wins, 1000 losses, and 1000 disconnects. I'm not sure if they are running custom firmware and have somehow hacked the game or if the server simply has messed up their stats.

PSN was up for a couple days after MK's launch, and you should never underestimate people's ability to poopsock a game they love. Being that matches take between 2-4 minutes, I wouldn't be surprised if there were people with 400+ matches played 24 hours after the game came out.

Those look like the modified stats you see in CoD maps, so I'd assume those were user-altered.

From my limited experience with online play on the 360, the latency isn't that bad. It's surely not on the level of a BlazBlue or SSFIV but it's close. Granted I've only been doing a private match with a friend or doing standard matchmaking searches (unranked). If I find a guy who plays at a similar skill level and has decent connection, I'll usually stick around and play a series of matches with them. You end up building up an amusing rivalry with the person and feel encouraged to play a few difference characters instead of your main all the time.

I played a few 1 on 1 games online last night. I had to use the 2 day free pass. I could only find one opponent, who beat me twice, and then quit when I was about to beat him in the third.

The lag was atrocious. I will wait for PSN to finally get sorted out, and wait for the patch, but I'm thoroughly sick of not being able to play a game that I have owned for a month now. Lesson learned; 360 for online games, irrespective of the cool extra whatever on the PS3.

Hey just curious. If someone quits before the end of a match, is that an automatic forfeit for them and you get the win?

Picked this up this weekend on sale at frys. To say it again, the story mode is just fantastic. It's like watching an 8 hour B movie. Definitely not your typical fighting game story mode.

Online is still laggy. But, I think I could get past that if I wasn't being matched against your typical online fighting game douchebag.

If anyone is still thinking about playing some matches just look me up on the 360.

Yeah I need to get back on this game right quick. Keep getting distracted by new stuff, random indie games or random old games

Me too, I think I'll dedicate my last 30 minutes up at night playing online, and hopefully a little more to dig into tower and practice.

As one of my favorite fighters from Deadly Alliance, I'm glad Kenshi still looks like he'll be great to play.

And the 4th DLC character is...

I went from WTF? to Awesome! pretty quickly after watching the trailer.
