Mortal Kombat - Katch All

GiantBomb played this game on Thursday Night Throwdown and there seemed to be absolutely no lag. When the GB crew didn't perform well they didn't blame it on lag. It looked like the connections were perfectly fine.

Could it be your ISP slowing stuff down?

Are you playing in full rooms? Super SF4 could get pretty bad if you had more than about 4 or 5 people in a single lobby.

I thought the same thing but it's just as bad 1v1 in ranked matches as it was in KOTH rooms. As for my ISP I have a 15 MB down, 1 MB up cable which is pretty solid. No issues in other games, including other fighters. Supposedly NRS knows about the problems and are working on them, guess we'll have to wait and see.

Kinda alarming. It's stuff like this that can kill the growth of a game's community. But not too worried if they're aware of the issue. Also I'm still happily experimenting with all the characters and unlocking random stuff in the Krypt.

PSN appears to be back.

I HAVE read about supposedly poor netcode. Gamespot. And TheSixthAxis.

Of course, other sites report rock-solid online play. Dunno.

The one Noob fatality is so gross I actively don't do it anymore....

Smoke looks pretty cool. Think I'll roll with him.

I've been rocking Ermac, I've got some great combos with him when playing the AI at least. Latency is completely killing my ability to input them online though. If I'm going to play online with any effectiveness I'm going to have to a find a character with some real effective simple stuff that I can cheese out.

Our copy arrived yesterday and I have a few observations after playing the campaign a bit:

-B movie quality acting.
-Ridiculous dialogue
-Cheesy story.
-Graphics look a bit wonky when they do the closeups. All the females look like men!
-Completely over the top special moves.
-Felt like an old school fighter.

Did I mention those were pros? And all those things combined hooked my girlfriend and I for two hours of pass and play. It was completely awesome.

Seems like I need to play 3-4 fights of Ladder with each character before I can pick a favourite to focus on. Recently pleasantly surprised by Cyrax and generic ninja girls, Jade and Kitana. Seems like the more specials someone has the better. So when I'm excitedly mashing the d-pad in the heat of the moment something, anything cool is bound to happen.

Played some matches with Nimcosi tonight, lag was playable but still noticable and we used to do SF4 all the time without problems. Didn't help that the game desynced a few rounds in and dropped. Hopefully that network patch is coming sooner rather then later.

Any observations on the matchmaking in public or ranked games? Do they use a ranking system similar to SSFIV?

When I got to the X, A, Y combo there was no way I was fast enough to pull it off until I actually used my right thumb to roll across X and A and my left index finger to hit Y. Is this just a problem of my thumb being too slow to hit the 3 buttons in a timely manner or something else I'm missing?
I went ahead and bought the Tekken 6 fightstick bundle today thinking if I could use three or four fingers on my right hand I could pull these combo's off.

The Tekken stick made all the difference I was able to make my way through the training with little to no problems, my only complaint about it is the spacing of the buttons isn't ideal but a game and a large fightstick for $60 seems like a win to me.

Ermac is my favorite so far. But for the first time ever pretty much everyone in this game is so fun to play with that I'm having trouble deciding on a true main. Man I wish PSN was up.

Bought it on a whim : add me on Xbox!

I was browsing around on another forum and someone had linked to this

http://www.primagames.com/mk/all_car...

it's a listing of each characters fatalities and stage fatality which I couldn't find anything with the stage fatalies so thought I would pass it on.

Can anyone comment how well MK works with a standard 360 pad?

Though my backlog grows, I'm itching for some MK action, esp. after hearing how good the single-player content is.

I cant seem to get even the most basic of combos during the tutorial. Using the tournament edition fight stick.

The key to doing combos in MK is to completely ignore the animations of your guy. Just hit the buttons in rapid succession and the game will buffer the commands and do the whole combo. So if it's FP, FP, BP don't wait for the moves to come out just go tap tap tap.

Awesome find!

The game plays pretty well using the standard 360 pad. That said, I wanted that extra bit of precision so I've been using the special edition pad, the one that has the "transforming d-pad" and obviously have it set to cross mode. (an aside, those things should still be on sale right now so you're not paying the usual bloated price of $69.99)

The default controls were clearly intended to play well on the standard controller. Face buttons are your attacks. The RT is your block. Right Bumper is Throw. Left Bumper is to Tag in a partner. Pulling LT and RT performs the awesome X-Ray special.

Thanks I was waiting for the animations. Given that the gamepad might be better, but I love the old school fighting stick.

I use a stick because the 360 D-Pad is horribad. I've even done the mod to the D-Pad to shave away the excess plastic and it still sucks.

+1. Timing only becomes a factor once you're doing a juggle.

I'm really enjoying the new fighting system. It's very similar to Tekken which I've always been a fan of. Once I finish unlocking all the Krypt content, I plan to spend a decent amount of time in training figuring out good X-Ray combos, BnBs, and safe pokes with Jade, Sub-Zero, and either Kitana or Sonya.

I love the Krypt Kontent - makes me want to just keep playing for the next unlockables

Love this game. Completely, without reservation. I would have it's ugly, gory babies.

What an amazing time to be into fighting games.

I wish SSF4 had a story mode like this.

Played through the story, that was really fun. I'm considering blowing through it again to get enough koins to unlock everything in the krypt. Generating koins seems pretty slow outside of the storyline.

Who is everyone using? I'm enjoyed

Spoiler:

cyber sub-zero

quite a bit and Smoke and Kung Lao both seem fun.

And how cruddy is Liu Kang?

My girl always has been and always will be Kitana.

What I love is that the tactics and combos I used in MKII are still valid here. This game is an amazing reboot, like seeing one of your favorite childhood TV shows cleaned up, polished, added to and presented in HD without losing what made it so great.

What I don't like about Liu Kang is how some of his move commands have changed. To me, charging LK(?) for the bicycle kick was an elegant way to sneak it into combos and take players by surprise. I haven't spent enough time with him to form a full opinion but in my limited playtime he felt clunky to me. Still, I'm sure he's a force in the right hands, just like he always has been.
