I'm. So. There.

I'm actually pretty excited for this. The challenge tower in particular looks really cool. I'm not enough of a fighting aficionado to get it at $60, but I'm there at a price cut if opinions are positive. PS3, obviously. Cant pass up on Kratos

I've played through the demo with 2 characters. I purchased my tournament edition for the PS3 a few months ago as well. I'm as in as they get. The salesgirl at the store I bought it at referred to me as "Gangster" for paying in full.

I fondly remember MK and MK2 in the arcades. I loved trying to figure out fatalities and how the moves spread between people pre-internet. Thank goodness for BBS's!

Downloaded the demo yesterday, but forgot I had. Lookin forward to seeing if I still hate/suck at MK.

Why thank you, Sinatar. I was just going to create a thread. This game is exactly what I want from MK right now. Less tooned, 2D, and looking to be fun. Don't own a 360, so I'll be picking this up for my PS3.

Hope I live up to my name. Cyrax seems to be a heavy juggler and I haven't had much successful in previous fighting games with that playstyle.

PSN cyrnix

I might have to, just for old time's sake.

I love this as a bullet point.

Story mode with an actual plot and cutscenes

To me that's a con, not a pro.

The list of games pushing me to get a 360 again is starting to reach critical mass. Especially now that console games prices have dropped here. Thanks weak dollar.

Yes, that one got a chuckle out of me.

Look, it's been a long time since anyone working on MK has been able to give it the TLC it deserves. I'm OK with a couple extravagances.

So what you're saying is you're looking forward to a new entry in this series?

I played the crap out of the first three Mortal Kombat games, but I can't see myself getting into a fighting game anymore, especially not one that's so gruesome. If the campaign were more like a brawler that trained you for multiplayer, though...

Edit: Yay, I get to be the first one of Them: the guy who posts in a thread to say that he isn't interested in something just to have the satisfaction of making his opinion know.

There's more than just the straight fight after fight after fight now. It's more of a challenge mode in which you're trying to get specific goals.

That's about all I know though. Don't know if it'll train you better for MP. But that's what youtube is for.

Eh, I'm not actually interested in training for multiplayer, but it'd be one way of getting a decent campaign added to a fighting game. It just seems like brawlers and fighting games are so closely related so far as gameplay goes that you could conceivably merge them. (Cue fighting game and brawler aficionados telling me how wrong I am. ;))

I just noticed in the move list that I can Dash Cancel! This is looking more and more like a tournament style game.

Personally I think it's interesting when a person with a history with a game finds a reason to buy out. A game thread doesn't need to be a love-in. Discussion's best when not everyone has the same opinion.

MvC:3 almost got me to buy a console. This might break my willpower. After succumbing to DA2, it seems I may be broken and it's only March. /cry

I picked up NBA Jam earlier this year (probably not coincidentally also a former Midway product). It didn't hold up for me. I think there are a class of games (NBA Jam, Mortal Kombat, the N64 Rare games) that just wouldn't hold up now. At least in my opinion. We'll see, but I have no interest in this.

If you're really dedicated, you'll keep coming back daily to update on how your opinion hasn't changed.

Do I emphasize this was meant as harmless ribbing? I've been really bad at this sort of thing lately.

No worries. I got you just fine.

Pretty sure Tekken had a side-scrolling brawler mode (maybe just Tekken 3?). Wasn't as great as it sounds.....

I'm probably going to get this game because even Ars Technica posted a good preview.... which must mean it is awesome!

DSGamer wrote:

Yeah, they struggled for quite some time to find a way to monetize their IP. Now that Midway is shut down and bought out, all the folks who used to work there can actually get paid to do the work they always wanted to.

Seems like old school MK to me. More responsive, but same idea. YMMV, but the demo is all I needed from MK.

Do they still have Friendships, Babalities and Beastialities?

Spoiler:

I know they're called Animalities but for the longest time I thought they were called Beastialities which I, of course, thought was hilarious.

If it comes out for the pc as well and I can use that one...I might actually buy it....
Loved the first MK when it came out.

It's a cool stick but that button layout looks useless for anything that isn't MK which makes spending 200 clams on it a bit much.

Just want to reiterate that I'm not saying the demo was bad or this is going to be a bad game. Just saying I have no interest.

And the stick is worth every penny. It opens up.

This hadn't really been on my radar, but I just watched the Giant Bomb quick look and damn.

I told myself after Soul Calibur and Street Fighter IV that I would no longer be buying fighting games at full price, nor expecting them to be played online, because for me that is the most surefire road to frustration. This game looks really, really good though. Do we think there'll be much meat for people that don't want to play online?

Look up info on the challenge tower. I think Joystiq had a preview for it up recently. Too much work to find/link from my phone. I'm lazy.
