PAX East 2011 Round 2 for the East Coast!

Wasn't there some name tag thing that they had at the latest PAXPrime? Your name badge is very good though MonoCheli. I think I'm also going to put my forum avatar on there as well as names since that's how I remember who most of you are.

That is the badge we had at PAXPrime.

You can print them out, or I'll have some on site this time as well. Though I'll have to find a new deputy for handing them out.

I am not sure where it is momgamer, but I remember there was a round design for putting in a button too....

So that's where I remembered it from

Can anyone please tell me (perhaps Momgamer) when on Friday the doors open? Or at least when they opened at the last PAXEast?

Last year doors opened a little after noon. I got there about 10am and stood in line for 2 hours. They did have a good cell phone game going on at that time though. Bring you ds, magic, anything to keep you busy with lots of people in a line... I don't know how it will be at the BCEC but at the old place we were inside so there was no weather to deal with.

I'm just tossing out a suggestion to the OP to add a link to the hotel page in the first post.

Done! When there are other things that I miss that you think should be up there let me know and I'll make it happen

ARISE TREAD!!!
Figured the thread could use a bump. I am attending all 3 days and I am staying at the attached Westin. Still havent figured out my travel arrangements. Anyone driving anywhere near Ohio, want some extra gas money?

When do passes come in?

Don't expect passes until very close to the date. You'll see it in the forums when they start mailing them out.

I plan on getting a three day pass after Christmas time. I haz a jorb and a car, and all is right with the world.

Myself and three buddies are planning on attending, but need a cheap place to stay. Anyone have any advice on a good place to stay. Ideally cheap, without being a full-on flop house.

If you don't mind being a bit away from the action, potentially, you might still be able to get a good deal on a hotel with Priceline. Betterbidding.com has a lot of good tips on bidding strategy.

So is this going to be like last year where you stood in line 90% of the time?

Oh yeah! I should get that hotel thing done, shouldn't I?

...

Okay, I'm in for the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel. Because I like Marriott and Marriott likes me.

Don't piss on my chips, dude. I'm really excited about this

Just bought my pass! I will be staying in Cambridge, probably on a couch.

We hope not. The new venue is larger, and hopefully some of the awkward sizes of things that led to the worst jams can be adjusted. They're not going away, though. It's still a metric butt-ton of people trying to get into stuff.

I don't know what you were doing that you spent 90% of your time in line (hopefully that's just a bit of hyperbole), but maybe some scheduling adjustments might help ease it a bit. There may be other things to do that don't have lines that might be more worth it to you.

Or you can really go for it. There are people that make the lines themselves an event. They meet new people, play games, hang with their friends, use them as breaks between long hauls in the Expo Hall. Bring a hand-held system, some cards, or even small games (Cthulu Dice and Zombie Dice are awesome for this). There should be enough Goodjers on the floor you don't have to do it alone, either.

That's true of any convention. I met one of my best friends in line at a Star Trek convention back in Alaska playing no-holds-barred Go Fish against all comers while waiting in line (this was back before Magic had arrived on the scene).

Oh, the temptation...

Should I bring my bishoujo dakimakura for company in the queues or leave it in the hotel room?

I don't know. For me, it would depend on just how moe it is. I mean, there's a lot of crossover between PAX-goers and anime fans, but I wouldn't recommend any really awkward stuff for fear of offending someone's tastes/philosophy/local blue laws.

Besides, reading isn't exactly a group sport.

On the other hand, someone had some ridiculous imported pure-rated datesim game and was running a group play-through where the group hanging around collectively decided on the actions taken by the player in one of the Sumo-bag areas last year, with predictably hilarious results.

(disclaimer, I don't actually own a pervy japanese love pillow)

Damn you, Maq. I googled that!

wooooooooooo so many goodjers are going.........

I'M IN TOO!!! now I must find a hotel..... yikes

Ticket has officially been purchased. This will be my first convention in a while, and because it is all video games I'm pretty psyched.

There's a bunch of College pals of mine going, but I dunno if they have Hotel space left over. As long as you promise not to molest me in my sleep, I'm willing to talk room arrangements with folks here.

I'll be going, probably Saturday only. Went all three days last year and it was two days too many for me.

are goodjers having a big meet up too? just wondering...... i want to know long i should go for!

=)

We usually do. Since I live on the other side of the planet it's a bit hard to coordinate that one. Anyone on that side of things want to give it a stab? All you need is a restaurant/bar that can cope with 30+ people. They're usually held on Saturday night around dinner time.
