Rangers in AoC had mezzes

mmo speak for mezmorize/daze

Ah! Thanks for the explanation. As I said, I dabbled in AoC, and never played a ranger

Kehama the mages have a lot of debuff and cc abilities. But do not over look the rogues. Rogues have stuns, mezzes, sanres, roots, damage debuffs that trigger on enemy actions, etc.

Does the dominator get a charm? I am not sure...

lol 20 minute queue right off the bat

Every server shows as full? 20+ minute queues? WTF? Oh, and the forums are down for scheduled maintenance? Odd, indeed.

Edit: Make that 30+ now, the time is not going down, its going up? Really?

Welcome to launch day!

Ha, managed to actually get to the official forums, briefly, saw one report that 'one minute post-launch, at least one server has a queue of 2000'...

2000. Queue. Oy vey.

Just jumped from 1 hour to 10 mins for me.

they just may be staggering the queues

Ya, just dropped from position 260 or so to 124, from 40 minutes to 4. Finding that a bit optimistic. Must be using the standard Windows time left to complete task applet.

I lied its back up to over an hour again

Gah! You MMO heathen! It comes from Everquest 1 and the enchanter spell mesmerize. In EQ, it was the class-defining ability of enchanters to mezz adds (and in EQ there were a lot of adds). I played an enchanter in original EQ from 1999 to 2001. I'm pretty sure for the entirety of the year 1999, and probably beyond, no one outside of the developers, the super-elite guilds, and anyone either playing an enchanter itself or grouped with one on a regular basis even knew what mezz was or how awe-inspiringly amazing it was. You would join random groups with people who never played with an enchanter before, and they would break all your precious mezzes, and you would go into convulsions. Fun times! Also, you couldn't do hardly any damage yourself, you were the only class which couldn't control their pet, and you were extremely squishy and likely to die a lot because 1) mezz generated a crap-ton of hate/aggro, and 2) the magic resistance debuff enchanters had to cast on everything to make most of their spells stick also generated a crap-ton of hate/aggro.

sorry, back to Rift. So, if the servers have 3000 person queues 20 minutes after opening, what are they going to look like when I get a chance to log in at 9pm tonight? Actually they may be better then...

No telling, still in queue. The position is steadily going down, while the estimated time keeps climbing. This many pre-orders home in the middle of the day? Of course, that's the optimistic assumption, my more normal attitude is that they just didn't realistically handle their hardware requirements...

LOL look at the qq on the official forums: 27 minutes after launch, someone already made a thread to let everyone know he's canceling his account. I think that must be some kind of record! Congrats, Trion? /golfclap

No heathen here. I just kept it to his list of games.

Opening Day Queues

Hey Folks-

It's opening day and there are queues. That's pretty standard for a situation where you have this many people trying to log on at the same time.

We are in the process of opening more servers. Please keep checking here on the forums and Facebook/Twitter for the latest news.

Thank you for your patience. We are working to accommodate you all as quickly as we can. We are as anxious to get you into Telara as you are to get there!

As far as canceling accounts, well, I was in the original WoW beta, but declined to play during retail because I refuse to pay for an MMO only to sit in a queue. Sooo, if queues are standard still at the end of march, I don't think I'll resubscribe.

That does not bode well for launch if there are queues for early access...

Or maybe they just have the login server(s?) throttled to ensure they don't crash and drop people? I dunno. I'm not thrilled about queues either, but it's less than an hour after head-start launch. I'll give em a couple days to sort it out; if it continues unabated for a couple weeks it would quench my enthusiasm considerably.

Well, actually, its a good thing for launch. Its gotta be one hell of a wake-up call.

Per Twitter, they've added 5 servers in the last half hour. I find it interesting that 4 of the 5 are PvP servers.

We've added another English EU Server. Sagespire (PvP) is now open! ^Zann

We just added another two servers. Please say "hello" to Deepwood (US PvE) and Stonecrest (US PvP)!

We just brought two more servers online. Bloodiron (English EU PVP) and Grimnir (French PvP-RP) ^Zann

2 more classes then I'll be home hopefully playing, hopefully the queue times will be down by then.

One hour post launch, I'm in, created a character and accepted the first quest.

Sons of Beetches - 2.5 hr queue. Not as smooth as I had hoped. But thats all shards.

I would take it as a good sign. Better to have tons of excitement and interest than none at all. Honestly, I know I will keep trying till I get in. You tend to be more eager for that which you cannot have.

Trion seems to be very reactive and the fact that they are deploying additional servers on a minute-to-minute basis shows they were prepared to scale up as the response required.

HOLY SERVER QUEUE!

Oh man. I'm looking at a 2 hour 45 minute queue and its 1:40 PM. My position in the queue 527.

Wow. Not the smoothest of launches. In fact, I'm pretty sure Star Wars, which was an absolute clusterf*ck, was somewhat smoother than staring at the evil queue box at the beginning.

Jeepers...how many MMO launches have we gone through guys. MMO queues are a tried and true characteristic here....and we're surprised how?

We (..at least I...) went through this with WoW, WAR, LOTRO, AoC...etc etc. Grrrrrrr...soo frustrated at this "gotta have it now" culture.

Funny, but I didn't have this problem in AoC, DAoC, EQII, or AC. AoC was the choppiest of the bit, but it wasn't 4 hour bad.

It's a waste of development effort and hardware to make servers that can handle spike loads that aren't going to be seen post-headstart/launch. Queues are the most pragmatic and cost-effective way to deal with a one time event.

Have to agree with Darrenl here. The servers are not falling over like card houses and there isn't much lag when you finally do log in. If anything the fact that the population is so full and that they are trying and actually being able to crank out new servers, for just the headstart, goes to show just how popular and successful Rift is so far.

...and servers are down. Gah. Gah. Does this mean I have to wait another hour in a Queue? I hope its because they're upping server capacity and this isn't the case.

back up

Ah, just got home:

Position in queue 543, 2hr+ queue

I'm sure that will drop down more quickly BUT...
