*Release* Rift Catch-All - if it isnt for any of the other threads - it goes here

I closed my first open world pvp rift tonight. In fact, it was the first pvp rift I have even seen in the game. I like the idea behind them, unfortunately the only Guardians who showed just sat on the sidelines and watched while we completed the objectives and closed the rift. I dabbled in the structured pvp during launch but it didn't really grab me, but the pvp rifts seem like they would be a lot of fun if more people would actually join in.
It might help if the game more clearly communicated the opening of a pvp rift- it was auto-announced in global chat as a "planar extraction event" and only upon entering the zone and viewing the map is it clearly a pvp event. If I hadn't already been in the area dropping off goods for a crafting daily I likely wouldn't have thought to investigate it.

Also, I'm a little sad about Ember Isle. It's such an great area with some outstanding design and it's so completely vacant. I've spent the last several days there exploring and doing dailies for the Keepers and the entire time I've seen only one other player. The entrance to the zone isn't terribly obvious and now that Storm Legion is out with a whole new continent I imagine most players will completely skip over Ember Isle without even realizing it's there.

So is there still a GWJ guild in Rift? If there is, I can't find it...

There was one at launch, but after a couple of months there weren't enough players left to be useful and we merged into the guild Immortalis, though when I returned to Rift last week it looked as though I was the only person to log in within the last year so it's probably safe to say that guild is dead as well.
A lot of guilds are actively recruiting now in anticipation of f2p next month so it shouldn't be too hard to find a decent guild to roll with.

well my 3 days are up. I'll wait till f2p comes to log in again.

after setting up, partially, the guide I linked to above I come to the conclusion that this game has gotten complicated!
with the actions in the action bar, different for each weapon set and for stealth, plus you have the macros to set up and now these add ons for alerts to set up.
making everything work in a line of key series for repetitive key mashes... ugh.

I'm thinking I'll just set up the action bars and a budf macro and be done with it! how do you all manage all this management?

Well looks like I'll be playing this again as well. Do we have a server and side that most are playing on?

I'm playing Defiant on server Shatterbone... currently in guild Zoot Allures.

If anyone wants some free bonus XP and money while they level, grab an ascend-a-friend invite here: http://bit.ly/16dgmez

Also Shatterbone/Defiant, though I just quit a guild and don't have a new one yet.

Join up with Zoot... it's pretty quiet and seems like good people -- generally 10-15 people online...

I think I am dragon/defiant but I am so hardcore/casual schizophrenic ( I play as much as possible but with as little scheduling and structure as possible). I really am not much use to a guild other than random quips or tips in chat. As a matter of fact, I don't really like guilds in general other than a place to hang out. (I think they bring out the worst in normal people/players)

I am having a lot of fun with the tactician/bard rogue and my flamethrowers of DOOM.

You play like I do. I love the idea of a guild, but my time becomes sporadic at best which coupled with my gamer ADD doesn't help.

Yeah, I'm basically that way as well, though I typically like having a guild for the perks and for having a pool of people I'm relatively familiar with to draw from if I want to group for something.

That's basically what I'm doing now, actually... no real commitment; just conversation & maybe someone to group up with ad-hoc.

I got a key from raptr (thank you all for the heads up!) but when I go to apply it to my old account it wants me to sign up for a plan. I can't find a way around it. I even went to the next screen and it really does want to charge me $14.99. Has anybody run into this? I am okay with not getting 30 days free, I just want to apply the expansion to my account before f2p!

Yeah, I had 30 days free earlier on my account, so it seems the storm legion key just unlocks features but the 30 days is a once per account thing. If you've got a character under L20 you can log into you should see some previously locked paths now available, and it should say on your main account page on the website.

Re-downloaded and patched up here for the 5 days free for previous subs. Gonna try to get some decent time in to decide if I should pick up the expansion in advance of free to play or not.

Is there a chat channel GWJ'ers can hang out in? Does the game have chat channels?

There are definitely chat channels. I think the server with the most people seems to be Shatterbone. I would create a GWJ chat channel if I were on that server but I picked one that wasn't high population when I first signed on. (off peak hours)

Think I'm going to start over. I'm completely clueless as to my current character, or what he's supposed to be doing.

That would be pretty wise. It won't take much to get to level 15 (especially with Instant Adventure). An hour and a half maybe an hour 45. It is much quicker with a tactician/rogue or a tempest/warrior because they are just devastating after level 6 or so. The mage is devastating too but takes a little bit longer to build both survivability and damage.

If you make an alt of the same class as your high level main, you will pick up how to play again in like an hour and be able to go back to your main. They changed the frequency of rifts and invasions so I can only imagine how much more busy and treacherous it is at high levels. (it is busy in the 1-20 tier, it practically doubles in the 20-30 tier and you really can't survive most of the stuff that spawns practically on top of you until you are 23+)

I also would not recommend jumping into one of the new souls after level 10. Create a new alt that focuses on the new soul and play it for an hour before attempting to respec to it at later levels.

The problem is that I can't apply the key without paying for a subscription plan, not that I can find.

Are you sure it is not just having a credit card on file and saying what type of subscription you want? I went through the same thing and it did not bill me for the subscription time.

You basically have to setup a subscription but it won't bill you for 30 days. You can cancel before I am sure...

Im pretty sure this is the case. I had a boxed copy from pax two years ago and it wanted credit card info but did not bill me.

This is an existing account I have had since launch, so I don't get the free 30 days. When I go to the next screen after I choose 1 month it says my total is $14.99 and it sure looks like it is going to bill me right away. The CC they have on file for me is expired, so maybe I will try using that and see what happens at the next step

Crisis averted. When I went to try it again today, it applied with no issues and no asking to pick a sub plan!

I don't know if it is just because something got fixed on their end, or because I applied 2 other reward codes (helm and shoulders) first, but either way I am not complaining

Thanks again to everyone for pointing out the raptr reward. I was seriously considering paying the $40 to upgrade to Storm Legion before the switch, but was hoping it would go on sale on Steam, but now it is not even available on Steam!

Highly likely they're preparing for other offerings on steam. I'd guess they took it down early to save on support issues for "I just bought this thing and now it's going F2P? I've got a subscription I can't use".

Yes, I was thinking it was something like that. It was just kind of funny that I was looking at it after f2p was announced and wanted to wait to see if it would go on sale from $40. I looked at it a couple of times, then I decided to look at it one more time and said to myself "even if it is still not on sale, maybe I might still buy it" then it was gone

I saw it sort of them wanting to reduce the stock of boxed copies in stores. Because the digital copies everywhere I looked stalled at $40 while boxed copies were going for $20.

Having a blast so far this weekend. Made a flamethrower rogue, lots of fun! After taking part in a bunch of instant adventures on the rogue, thought that it might be a good way to level a healer, so rolled up a healing cleric, what a great way to level a pure healer. Got to 20 and did my first dungeon healing. This is lots more fun and approachable than i remember it to be. Gonna have to pick up the expansion for F2P, even considering a one month sub so I don't have to not play for the next week and a half.

Any European Goodjers still active? I'd love to get a small (bi)weekly group going, but so far my recruitment calls have been fruitless.

Don't sub now if you don't want to.. looks like all account owners can play for free and don't have to wait until F2P. I just booted up Rift after 6 months, and playing no problem.

Definitely. I've been playing since the 5 days free and have had no restrictions on my account. Even tossed them a few bucks for the expansion because I figure I've gotten at least 20$ worth of playtime in the last week or so.
