*Release* Rift Rogue Discussion

Pages

This thread is for all things dastardly and cunning like shooting people with various things from distances and/or stabbing them in the face with sharp, pointy objects from the shadows or maybe you like to just blow sh*t up. Welcome you leather wearing, slippery little bastard.

I think the major problem with them is every now and then you are going to need some spice. So rolling an alt that may struggle a little more or that has crazy aoe chaotic fun will be a nice change of pace.

Ah, just to interject slightly here, but my experience with rogues is that they have "plenty" of crazy chaotic aoe fun.

Big fan of the Ranger, Bard, Riftstalker. Bards are like the Swiss Army knife of the Rogues, always a tool for the situation. Bard can make the Ranger pet almost indestructible.

I plan on playing BD/MM/?

I think it is a great combo, I can shoot stuff when pulling, starting the combo build up right away, and hit them with a finisher when they get close. It is better then wow hunter because if someone or something gets close I still have a great chance to survive. Versatile close and at distance!

Not sure what to use for the 3rd soul yet. Something with some defensive boost maybe? Or I don't mind more offensive power without a bunch of extra abilities to worry about, I don't expect to be tanking big bosses or beating Guardians 1v1 all the time. For some reason, I'm not interested in having a pet around atm.

Well, seeing as the early release starts in 2 days and there's been a more or less official loosening of the reins on things - probably akin to floodwaters bursting over a dam at this point ....

I'll put my money where my mouth is with my "I find rogues to be plenty of chaotic aoe fun" statement from earlier:

There's, uh, 6 of them all total - all equal level to me, and I didn't get surprised and wind up with all of them -- I intentionally go around pulling packs of them like that, often 8 or 9 at a time.

Or I used to at least /cry .... but I can't talk about that yet. The pain is too recent, and too fresh a wound, and it still hurts to much to talk about it. Now - 5 or 6 is a good number.

Try bard, great buffs and some fairly decent self/group heals.

Bard: great soul or greatest soul? I get the feeling that 1/3 of the leveling population on PvE servers is going to be ranger/bard/x. And I'll be one of them

So is it possible to build a sneaky archer that isn't reliant on a pet? Bonus points if it's not completely helpless in melee, even if ranged is better.

Is such a character at all viable?

I only played Beta 7 so I'm a bit lost on all the nuances of souls and have no idea what type of high level skills there are

marksman - great ranged attacker with no pet, and run speed buffs
assassin - poison based stealth class, can get infinite duration stealth
nightblade - "mage" like ranged "spells", can stealth but only lasts for 30 seconds
riftstalker - the rogue tank for survivability and melee abilities, can teleport (including a teleport backstab)
bard - support, heals, buffs, ranged dps
bladedancer - melee dps, avoidance based survivability (lots of parry), no stealth
saboteur - may out sneak them all, you don't get a stealth skill but you can talent so that your combo point abilities draw no aggro, combine this with a stealth soul for mega fun!

So most of the builds you want will either be marksman/assassin/? or marksman/nightblade/?

You can also replace marksman with ranger for ranged dps and just not summon the pets they get. The ranger is quite capable without a pet but since you get one for free, why not use it?

The nightblade does not match the ranged dps of the marksman or ranger even remotely. So a nightblade build will need a bit of dps help from one of the other rogue souls.

Sabateur is a lot like a Grenadier as well ... they have range. So you don't have to be an archer to have range. Sabateur / Assassin is nice. Range and stealth and melee oh my.

Saboteur has awesome single target burst damage. It was fun, but seemed limited early on as a main class.

I will certainly make a rogue type. I have found memories of the rogue community in EQ and it makes me always want to play a rogue at least in some form in each game.

Ranger, Bard, Nightblade = stabby, stabby, musical, pet goodness.

Based on nothing but pure speculation and lore, I was thinking about a Bladedancer/Assassin/Riftstalker. How viable is this combo?

So if i want to be a BA archer that lets the pet tank..what would i roll? I don't care if they see me.. cause they should be dead by the time they get close enough to me....

I'm thinking ranger/marksman/bard

you get a extra range (1st five points) and a melee range shot with marksman (swift shot - initial skill), bard can heal with cadence (with 6-8 points in tree) and a few buff which i think will affect pet, then everything else into ranger

With ranger as your main, make sure you have a melee spam attack from another soul in easy reach because the ranger's skills don't work in melee range.

Ranger/Bard/Nightblade is pretty handy as a combo. All the bard buffs work on the pet as do the heals. You can solo groups of three at low levels with that combo. Once you get rain of arrows you can handle more. Also remember you can reallocate points fairly cheaply as well as your roles. Alexi has a couple of nice builds for a rogue tank.

In the rogue area i was thinking range but sneaky... so would Marksman/assasin/nightblade be viable?

As always i'm trying to figure out a high dps spec that also works for pvp.

Marksman would give you great ranged dps. Assassin would give you melee dps, stealth, poisons and backstab. Nightblade gives you weapon proc, mezzes

will the Nightblade procs work on ranged weapons?

I didn't get as much rogue-time during beta as I would have liked, but I did quite enjoy my brief excursion as a saboteur- any suggestions for a good sab build?

You may want to read more in official but from my reading "fiery blades" or something like that does work on ranged.

I'm having a hard time coming up with (or finding) a BD/MM with more points in BD. Since I did not play much, I'm going to stop worrying about min/max and try to put an equal amount of points into BD and MM since I play on using both equally. I don't think I'm going to use bard cause you have to put a chunk of points into it to get the group heal. Actually that would be good for a 2nd role I guess.

I think most likely I will just have a 3rd soul for the zero point or just a few points in it (non pet class though), and just see how it works out. It will be nice to learn the souls and what seems to work from experience. It will also be nice to group in non rift situations to see how group synergy works.

any suggestions for a good sab build?

Bard/ranger/sabo 12/0/rest

Once you put 12 points into sabo to get shrapnel charge you can stop and focus on more bard or go up the ranger tree. I recommend at least 14 because that will also give you enough talent points to give you 100% chance to not aggro the enemy when placing your charges.

Other things of note, 16 points = time bomb = time delayed aoe nuke, 20 = stun, 21 points = aoe damage and stun, 32 is booby trap = aoe damage trap

About having a Marksman/Bladedancer rogue

I'm working on a MM/BD as well and have found Riftstalker to be a very good 3rd soul at a low cost. at 0 points, you get the teleport which with the speed boost from MM would help to get out of tough spots. At 2 points, you get a finisher what uses combo points into an armor buff. And the 1st tier skills either add to armor or attack power.

I was able to use my queue constructively and I think I made a decent build.

BD 27/MM 26/ RS 13

This build is strong in both melee and ranged. For MM, no movement increase points (since I have BD) and all the points go into damage and I have the pedestal ability. For BD, all skills increase dodge and parry and extra damage because of it, also I get energy when I kill a mob with combo points on it. This works well because with the 13 RS, I get 30% to all healing PLUS any combo points left over when a mob is killed I get 6% of total health per combo point back.

I would recommend that no matter what class you play, find a way to get at least one of your classes to 31 pts. Kind of your main class.

I just picked this up on Steam. Are any of you guys playing Guardians or is everyone Defiant?
