2011 Team Fortress 2 Tournament, this time with ACTUAL medals!

Who even likes CTF? If we do it, we should really lay down some ground rules for it.
Also, Payload is fun and you are LAME.

I'm definitely down for this.

You should probably log on to our pub server and play for a bit and/or join our Steam groups to see if we're a good fit for you.

The main gripe with CTF is turtling, or generally more than 2 engineers. I feel like double cross has been the only ctf that the server has really taken a liking to.

I find 6v6 CTF a little better than 12v12. Turtling is definitely less of an option. I'd prefer CP, though. PL is pretty much right out, it's impossible to defend with only 6 people.

Payload sucks, you know it, I know it. Now, lets get back to 2fort.

I so want to do this, but not sure on the time i have available.

I am hoping to have enough people per team that not being able to make every match doesn't matter.

Should probably add Erik's spreadsheet to the first post Psych.

FTFY.

So Erik, how many hattes does my Majestic Towering Pyllar of Hattes count as?

EDIT: Nuean as a Beginner? Brainz as anything other than Over 9000? Norfair, Pants and Latrine at Intermediate? Some people clearly have a different idea of skill level than I do.

SHUT YOUR FACE! You want to get banned again?

BOO THIS MAN.

Just a suggestion here...

With so many people wanting in and many of them admitting they haven't played in a while, I would suggest the maps be official Valve maps and not any of the custom ones that our "experts" know well and the "beginners" get lost on.
Along those lines, establish the team captains and let them be the ones to fairly choose the maps (keeping the last point in mind).
Otherwise we just have chaos and everyone asking for their favourite game style (CP, CTF, PL) and maps without regard for fairness.
This is going to be a tough balance between fun and competitive.

Ok, since my 18 month old was distracting me while i was filling out the form, I only selected one class. Is there anyway to add Soldier and Engy to my list? Medic is definitely preferred so if it stays as is, then oh well.

I fixed it for you, Asterith.

I do rather enjoy payload, but I agree that once the tide turns the roll can be on. There are strategies to counter it, but...meh, I dunno. Of course, you could say the same thing about 5-point push CP, too. When the 4th point is taken, how many times have you seen a team come back and win? Usually if the losing team fights back it only means a protracted, painful slow death. And as far as CTF goes, landfall is the only map I've seen that doesn't suffer from Horrible Antagonistic Turtling Syndrome (or HATS, for short), and it's not stock.

So I guess we shouldn't play any maps at all; we can just run a simulator to see who wins.

My skill level tends to range wildly between matches and tends to have a very specific downward trend as the night goes on. Usually in early warm up games I'll do great but as soon as all talk turns off and things get serious I'll slowly slide down the score board.

Perhaps it is just the phrasing of the categories also. If you want to rank me on a scale of 1 to 4 then I guess I would be in the third spot but I wouldn't consider myself a TF2 expert by any stretch of the imagination. Just look at my measly two hours played. Heck half my hats are just the free preorder ones.

Edit: Payload maps, like most things in life, is best enjoyed in moderation... except maybe hats.

See, the trick is to stay on a nice buzz, not over-indulge into serious drunkenness.

Ya going ahead and add me to the list then.

Intermediate
Pyro
Spy

haha, yeah, this is such a loaded question! But I do like the over 9000 option... haha!

Ummm, sure, why the hell not? SOMEONE has to be a disruptive influence on one of the teams, and dam it, that's my specialty. Woe be to any man that drafts me!

Usually I stick with a single beer being a school night and all, but then maybe that's my problem.

Minarchist beat me to it. Yes we do play doublecross more than any other ctf, on the pub. But I thought most of us enjoyed landfall and cp_arcana when we tried them out on the private. Although it's still tough to get them voted through sometimes.

Sure, official maps sounds nice. But there are some maps like cashworks and swiftwater that have been around long enough and we play enough that it seems like they should be included in discussion. Granted, those are both payloads, so maybe we're not playing those at all?

Seems like giving both teams a turn and whoever holds the longest on defense (or finishes quickest on offense, same difference) wins the map. With tournament mode on like last time there's none of the "defense not having setup time" that you get on our normal game nights. Really don't see why payload can't work. Except the time thing, we might have to agree not to play goldrush or thundermountain, since a cycle through all 3 maps can take a good chunk of time.

Seems like attack/defend would be the same as payload. One turn for each team, whoever holds out the longest.

Just to justify my "Intermediate", my ability to play can vary wildly from game to game. Some nights I have a good groove going, other nights that groove is off somewhere else while I stare at the death screen far more often than I'd like.

Let's say skill level roughly correlates to your relative position on the leaderboard most of the time?

The Fairy Princesses shall rise again! All shall weep at our coming.
