Dead Island

It might have something to do with how many items you have. If all your slots are full then it always replaced my active item in my hand.

Good to hear there is a mod to fix it, it would have made those 40 hours a bit easier on me.

At least at 40 hours, you're just getting started.

I've only tried multiplayer for about 5 minutes and I don't remember how that worked, do steam friends show up in the in-game list?

Yikes.... I finished every side quest in the game and even farmed a bit so I could really stock up for the prison. And you STILL out played me by a factor of like 8 or 9. How many times did you beat the game?

GotY is now up on Steam.

It says there's a 50% off to upgrade for owners of the original, but it shows up as $19.99 in my cart. It can't be $40 for an upgrade.

Anyway I'm not buying it yet, since I haven't played the game. But just curious. $10 for all the DLC would be a reasonable deal I'd think.

I believe the consensus is that the DLC sucks. The arena stuff is good but the actual story DLC focuses on the worst part of the game.

We're gonna need something we can buy everyone during the Christmas sale.

i.e. The sewers.

So what's Dead Island Helper do? tomayto mentioned it in the pile thread. I see a lot of patch notes on the download page, but not necessarily a feature list.

Disabling motion blur, fixing mouse sluggishness in menus, those I have noticed. Other stuff I see it the notes, multiple key-press bugs I haven't really seen yet.

I'm still in chapter 3, looking for a truck ride into the city or so..

It's probably just a GUI that lets you select changes you want to make to the .ini files. They are very convenient. I seem to remember having to do some .ini file editing for that game. It was a bit of a mess at release.

Huh... well it looks like an interesting program. Sadly I can't actually use any of it.

It opens as a tray icon only. You can't click on it for any full menu or anything. And all of it's selections are in the menu just from mousing over. Well, the options expand to my 2nd monitor. And if I try to mouse over them, I lose focus on the window and the whole program disappears. Really brilliant design.

Sure I could disable my 2nd monitor, and maybe get it to show the menu properly and let me select things. But those are the hassles I'm trying to avoid.

Ha! Well, if you're that lazy, I'm gonna assume that you don't want to look at .ini files. Hopefully, you can enjoy it with the mouse smoothing and stuff. It's a fun game.

I was joking a bit. I did disable the monitor, and the expanding menus popped out to the left this time. But it's where they should always pop. I mean if you're going to run in the little tray in the bottom right corner, when would you ever open to the right? Only if there's a 2nd monitor, in which trying to move to the right loses mouse focus in the gap between monitors...

And it didn't fix my mouse slowness on the start menu. But maybe it did disable motion blur and stuff. We'll see...

Honestly it telling me that -nologos in launch options skips all the opening crap is more helpful than anything the program could do. Especially when the one company logo stutters and skips sound like you wouldn't believe on my PC... never seen an intro chug like that before.

If your headphones aren't full of static for the remainder of your time in the game after that company logo stutters, than you're already ahead compared to my experience with the game.

Ah, Tuffalo, you lurked here as well? Guess that will be a next game to complete on PC!

I love coop games.

I ran across the Dead Island: Riptide trailer this evening.

Deep Silver has taught me that their trailers are misleading compared to the gameplay, but I thought it was another captivating trailer. I am such a sucker for down-tempo/piano/not showing a gun shooting in a trailer for a FPS/RPG lite.

I just hope we get an option for a reduced HUD, non-player-level-scaled enemies, and a stronger focus on story/charcters for the single player game this time around.

That especially. Borderlands 2 has reminded how nice it is to have progressively higher level areas as opposed to the enemy level scaling found in Dead Island.

Do we have any info as to release or what is in the game? Setting, etc? Or are we back on Banoi?

I'm back into this after dropping it 2 hours in. I'm totally hooked this time, though. And it's great timing right before Halloween. My perfect Halloween game. Large RPG, tense but not daunting, and lots of over-the-top gore.

Picked this up to play multiplayer coop in, and can't connect to game lobby, no errors or nothing, just the button is greyed out. Intensive google search later, I find a thread on steam community saying servers are down?

Super frustrating, especially since the game does nothing to tell you whats up.

I am excited for the next installment of this game. How close to the games release before the game gets its own thread for trailers, etc?

So, this game is now on my "must finish at least once" list.

I'm level 15-16, Act1 chapter 3.

If people want to tag along when I play, tell me.

I hope the devs do more bug crunching this time. The original game was so broken that PC users had to build a freaking application to make it work.

I never experienced any problems. :S Maybe I was one of the lucky ones.

Yarp. Played fine for me on PC. I got to the church/town and never finished it, though.

I honestly only installed DIHelper to fix the pickup issue, but used it for a couple other things. I may have experience a single crash in the 29 and change hours it took me to finish the game. My guess is, most of the bugs got patched out by the time I got the game during the steam summer sale this year.

I have created a topic for all of our Dead Island: Riptide talk and speculation.

Now that you have mentioned the program I think I will go check it out and see if it can enhance my enjoyment of the playthough.

The only glitch I had was while playing the game with Vector. I attempted to kill us by driving off a cliff and the vehicle got stuck in between two palm trees. It made for some fun entertainment while we tried to dislodge the vehicle.

i was in the same boat - i didn't buy until the summer sale and the game was remarkably stable for me. This is one of many reasons why I don't buy games on release day anymore.

I've recently started playing this, and if anyone wants to join me just shoot me a message on Steam. I set the 3 slots to private to avoid random pubbies so I think you'll need an invite to join (it wasn't clear if private meant "invite only" or if it acted like "friends only" in L4D).

If i'm on steam, feel free to see if i'm interested in playing. I played it some on 360, but not much co-op. i would be interested in hacking up some zombies with a friend.

added you as well.
