Dead Island

Bumping the thread to see if there are any people looking for tag alongs to join in on a 4 pack.

I'm interested.

Grabbing a slot for now too. I'm in the middle of getting my Paypal account fixed right now though so it's no sweat if this round passes me by.

Thanks for the 4-Pack hookup Falchion!

No problem buddy. I converted the cash back into funds for my Steam Wallet. Skyrim is looking mighty tasty now. Except that I already got Dead Island and 3 other games pre-ordered for this last third of the year.

Heh, well, I don't mean I can facilitate the transaction, I was actually looking for someone to head it up so I can be one of the tag-alongs that chips in for a 4 pack

I can vouch for Plastefuchs (even though his picture is scary)

I am too looking for people who like to start a four pack. Me and a bunch of buddies want to get in on the great(?) price difference between the German and the US version. There are 5 people (including me) that would be ready to give someone their money for some zombie action fun.
I know that I am only a lowly coffee grinder, but a few people of the GWJ community helped me before snatch a few good deals and it all worked out fine for them (and us in the end).

I would handle all the money and send it to the 4-pack buyers so they can be sure to get their money before we seal the deal.

Any takers?

EDIT: Woot, no more coffee grinding for me \o/

Greenmangaming has this for $33.96 on pre-order, cheaper than Steam's $37.50 as part of a 4-pack. Also with greenman, if you use someone's referral you both get $5 credit. Dead Island is steamworks, so shouldn't matter where you get it from.

To get the $33.96 price, use stackable code: HAPPY-PAYDA-YSITE, which knocks it down another 20% off of $42.45. They send out the code on release, and you just download from steam as usual.

So, is there a Steam group for co-op? If so, can I get an invite please?

With the GMG offer we Germans are out of luck now. =/

Damn greedy green men!

There is now. Since release is only a week away and there isn't a group yet, I created one.

GWJ Dead Island Steam group, it is public for now.

Nice! Thanks for posting the code. Also, if anyone needs a referral code (it must be used before you register) for Green Man, feel free to PM me.

Bump. Release is a week from today, and we have a whopping 5 people in the steam group. Come on people, these zombies aren't going to fight themselves (or maybe they will if they get bored, but still ...)

Sorry, i'll be on PS3... and at least 4 or 5 days late because of the stupid "we release at different times around the world because we hate our customers and making money" attitude of the entertainment industry.

Alright. I went and watched all the videos on Steam and I think I'm giving this one a miss.
Too much gore for my taste.

I can understand that, I guess, but do you close your eyes when you play l4d2? Because I don't know if you've checked lately, but you can shoot the crotch off a zombie in that game.

Go watch the videos on Steam. It's way gorier than L4D2. It's like the gore is a "feature".
Maybe if I didn't have a curious 8 year old around, but I don't think so. In L4D2, I can pretty much ignore the gore.

Based on those videos, I don't see that being possible in DI. It's much more "fling a bucket of red syrup at the camera" than "mash this giant ketchup packet against your chest till it pops".

Have any German friends who would gift it to you?

Aww man. The GMG code is all ready expired. Any ideas if there are any others?

Make sure you put it in with capital letters.

Found one! 20SUM-MERSA-VINGS
I think this one expires Sept 1st.

I think a big difference in Dead Island's gore is it's heavy emphasis on melee combat, which is up close and personal compared to shooting zombies from range.

IMO, though, no such thing as too much gore in games

New release trailer:

Marvel digital comic prequel (free, works in browser)

I'm going to have to think pretty hard about getting this. I don't want to miss the coop boat.

Nice to hear all the accents from my neck of the woods.

I'm in the same boat. I'm trying to cut back on the number of games I buy and was thinking of waiting on this one but I think this is going to be the most fun around launch.

I've thought a while about this as well, and came to the conclusion that the chance that this could be mediocre is greater than a good pre-sale of ~$35.

This is what has put me on the wait and see train too. Co-op isn't really a focus for me, and I will also be getting the 360 version, so I think I can wait and see how it reviews. There are no pre-order bonuses, so I'm good to sit out the launch, then catch the feeling on the Single Player campaign.

That and I have a pile I can't see over...

You can now pre-load Dead Island on Steam.

This is where I am. I want this to be good, but my hunch is that this will be another Brink--a good idea with lots of problems.

Anyone got a spot in a 4 pack?

I was just coming hear to ask that as I just got the reg code from GMG in my email. I've been very impressed with them as far as Steamworks games and getting the codes in time for preloads.
