A serious blow to democracy

Ft. Wayne, Indiana is building a new government center, and asked for votes for a town figure to name the new center after. The people voted, and chose the longest and most distinguished mayor of Ft. Wayne, Indiana to be immortalized with the new government center.

And the town of Ft. Wayne came back and DENIED the voters, and the former mayor (deceased) the honor of having the government center named after him.

This is a severe travesty of justice, and a slap in the face for democracy:

Scratching Harry Baals from government center leaves sore spot

Deputy mayor Malloy recently addressed the Associated Press on Tuesday, February 8, regarding Fort Wayne officials' decision to scratch Harry Baals name from consideration for name of the town's newest government building despite the public's overwhelming soliciting and Baals' runaway lead in an online poll.

I see nothing wrong with the name Harry Baals. These people have sick, sick minds.

Talk about rubbing your constituents the wrong way.

I'm really chafed by this.

It's like a kick in the proverbial crotch.

Was it because of teabaggers? They like to go after low hanging fruit.

No, the current mayor who made the decision is Tom Henry - D

Second cousin to John Thomas.

This is the type of post we need in P&C every Friday.

Make fun of Baal at your own risk, he was buddies with Gozer, I bet.

Gozer the Traveler. He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!

Don't mess with Baals... zas. Yeah. That scans. I'll go with it.

Harry won the popular vote for the center. I think he beat the next runner up, a Mr. Richard Head, soundly.

What a load of junk.

What a bunch of dicks.

They should totally sack that government.

They need to head this off before the pulsing beat of democracy gets totally shafted.

A friend from IU sent me this earlier in the week, and I just laughed and figured it was a joke.

It is even funnier that it seems to be real.

What a cockup.

Typical local government. Self important folks want to get their hands all over everything.

They're really letting the voters hang out to dry.

And all the while we're feeling the squeeze.

edit: it's always the voters that end up holding the bag.

Sounds like a bunch of blow hards just stroking their own egos, not giving satisfaction to the voting mass.

The whole thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Yeah. Talk about being jerked around.

This must make the former Mayor blue with premature excitement.

They shouldn't erect the center then. It just wouldn't be prudent. Its invokes images of building momentum and then misfiring or nothing coming out of it. The erection of the center just seems dysfunctional at this point.

If this is any indication, then the future can take it's time coming.

I think both sides should make an effort to reach across the aisle and end this happily.

They'll be picking this out of their teeth for years.

...Testicles.

I can't believe the Cohones of that government to prematurely cease the project.
