The Killzone 3 Red Eye Catch All

Game objects lost or whatever. Same error as last night. Same time as last night, 8:30 eastern. Shadow, ilduce and I were trying to join warzone together.

I think it might just be warzone though. I had problems joining it after that by myself, but was able to get into operations.

Gotta go watch Modern Family with the wife. Back in a few to try again, maybe we can get in an Operations game as a squad on the same team. Really shouldn't be this hard.

Agreed but you know every new shiney toy shooter does the same thing to us so hopefully they will have thier act together and get this working better in the next few weeks.

Yeah, I think it's Warzone. We were able to join your game, Shadow (and you killed me at least twice...), and then Stele and I hit up two rounds of Operations. Good times.

I'm sure they'll fix it. I think it's just squads entering Warzone, as I was able to play Warzone myself twice this evening - just without the squad.

So the WASP turret is ridiculously overpowered. I ended up scoring about 19k in one game (gained 4 levels from 7-11) and had about a 55/17 k/d.

Yeah operations works well. Warzone a little finicky with squads. But it might just be time. Dynimight and I joined a warzone game as a squad.

A warzone game in which I finished with 10k points. I assassinated the target, with a proximity mine, after his teammates had killed me. It was awesome. Also had most captured points, most speaker captures, most speaker carrier kills, tons of little bonuses like that. Definitely my best round so far, pointwise, although I've had 2 or 3 8k rounds.. But of course since I had just leveled up before that, it didn't get me any unlock points, but hey, can't complain.

Also joined jakeleg earlier and got stuck on the opposite team. Watched him go 30-20 or so, with some assists and lead his team with the top spot. Need to be on the same side next time.

What? I joined your squad and then couldn't find you in the game haha. I guess I didn't look hard enough. That was a terrible round for me, but hey, we won. Carried by Stele

I tried out medic for the first time, and yeah, people really don't wait at all to be revived. I think I revived 4 bodies in a row where people respawned mid revive.

I'm at 99/100 for my next revive medal. That's an extra 1k xp. I think I might have gotten the 500xp reward for 100 kills with the medic rifle, m82se or whatever it is, in that big scoring round as well. Forgot about those little bonuses here and there.

Stele wrote:

Awesome. Important to keep in mind it works the other way, too--a target that can be revived wins the match even if he's not revived. But this reminds me, beta tips: on Frozen Dam, there's a spot behind the ISA spawn (it's the same spot the ISA land at in Operations) where an assassin target can hide. However, it's not well travelled, so a hypothetical player, say a smart Infiltrator devoted to the enforcement of space law can hide out there, mine the sh*t out of it, and gank the target before anyone is the wiser. Conversely, the best Helghast hide spot is also behind the spawn, and it is well travelled--it's the first room on the dam, where the ammo box is. Specifically, that room has a sh*tter--the target can crouch down there and have a wall to protect against grenades and other explosives.

Long, buzzed story short, Assassination is the most satisfying mode. If you lose, whatever, it's hard. But a win is really goddam sweet.

Beautiful.

Tried some botmatch and a wee bit of the campaign with Move last night. Thankfully they've fixed the scope on the left trigger from the initial demo code. It's frankly quite fun. I really didn't know what the aiming assistance did because I'd never scoped before, so imagine my surprise in campaign when I'm taking cover behind a wall, pull the left trigger for scope mode and the reticule whips around and locks onto the forehead of an enemy 30 degrees off the center of the reticule. WTF? I quickly went into the options and turned aim assist off. Here I have this wonderfully accurate hardware and the default -- at my difficulty level -- assist is "HALP, PLEEZE TO POINT @ HED OF BAD GAIS!" Blargh. Once I turned it off it was delightful fun.

The calibration tends to go off pretty quickly for me, where the reticule keeps creeping further and further to the right as I go on. I performed the XMB calibration and it didn't seem to help. That's going to suck if they never get it worked out. At this point I can't imagine getting the plastic gun peripheral with the reticule creep in play. It would get annoying fast. Right now I'm still finding "aiming from the hip" to be better with the creep.

Really enjoying the multi-player. I've been playing Warzone primarily as Operations is just awful when the other team is stacked with a full clan or your team has no idea what they are doing and run around sniping and ignore the objectives. It would be fun if we could get a full GWJ group together.

I've been focusing primarily on Engineer, but I am also leveling up Tactician and Medic. I actually kinda like the Engineer LMG. It has great range and is controllable when you fire in bursts. Up close I use the shotgun pistol. Don't bother with the tier 3 Engineer LMG. It is the definition of spray and pray with no range at all. A total waste of 3 points.

I took a legitimate sick day and finished the campaign today and I liked it. Granted it's just as forgettable a story as any COD or other war type shooter, but I think it was well done. Good pacing, nice variety in missions and objectives, fun vehicle missions, and a couple good oh crap moments.

Happytime Harry wrote:

Yeah I agree, and also a good variety of weapons. I forgot to come back and post the "good" of the campaign after I made a couple negative comments yesterday a page or so back.

Agreed, I love operations but it can really suck when your team doesn't have any Tacticians and realize the importance of capping points close to objectives.

Also the auto-balancing is total sh*t. I was on teams last night of 8v2 and 8v3 in different matches. No hope at all, and the worst part is that it doesn't balance teams after the objectives and cutscenes. That would be a perfect time to toss 3 people to the other side and get a 5v5 even match. Instead the game just sits there and lets one team get steamrolled.

And worse, there's no way to switch teams. You're just stuck... even if you want to go help the other side, you can't. Weird design decisions to be sure. Hell maybe this is how all console shooters are, I don't know, I've honestly never spent any time in an online console shooter aside from a couple hours with Killzone 2 last month. All my online FPS games have been on PC until now. But this is pretty frustrating in some aspects.

Still, operations and warzone are both a lot of fun. Objective based gameplay beats the hell out of deathmatch. Got TF2 match tonight, but I'll try to be on K3 before/after.

I also have been focusing on Engi and thanks for the heads up on the tier 3 I didn't unlock that one in beta.

You must not be using it right then, it absolutely destroys people. Hit L2 and crouch, I've gotten so many multi kills with it because its so fast I clear out a hallway or room without a scratch.

No doubt it does a lot of damage, but I just prefer something a bit more accurate at longer ranges. The iron sights on the base LMG make it easier to pick off heads behind cover.

In the beta at least, all unlocks when available when you play a bot match.

Joined jakeleg in warzone but got stuck on the opposite team. So I killed him a lot.

But his team won...

Yep, still in retail. Good way to practice and decide what to spend points on.

OK, I take back what I said about the tier 3 engie LMG. It is pretty wicked. It seems more maneuverable than the standard LMG too when turning but that may just be my imagination.

I played a few more Warzone matches tonight. I think I'm getting the hang of things a little more. I've always been a Halo guy, and I never could get into COD, so the military shooter multiplayer is still a bit new to me. I'm really enjoying the Killzone multiplayer so far though.

I've been sticking with the medic just until I can learn the maps a bit. I was enjoying the tactician in the beta, but I found I was relying on the radar ability too much and not actually learning the maps, so I thought it would be good to try something else for a while. I've been really surprised how useful the turret buddies are, not only for racking up far more kills than I would have anticipated, but also just for pointing me in the general direction of an enemy that I hadn't seen.

Any tricks for spotting cloaked marksmen? It seems like they're completely invisible if they're cloaked and stationary, but maybe I just wasn't being attentive enough.

The best you can hope for if they're perfectly still is that your crosshairs will still go red if you pass over them.

Anybody have the game go to a black screen after a cutscene near the end of the game and then just.. not come back?

I left it sit for a few minutes and the game never did come back up.

That was like the best round ever. Me and jakeleg teamed up for Warzone. Last round was a speaker pickup, but no one was able to get a single cap, so we ended with a 3-3 draw. But 8500 points, so I can't complain.

And another tie the next round. Damn.

No crashes during single. 3-4 during multi so far.

Oh and jakeleg is our new friends leaderboard leader. Just got me by 179k to 178k right now. Oh well, I was #1 for 2 whole days.

The next map pack for Killzone 3, "Steel Rain," was unveiled on GTTV last night. No price or date listed yet, but the "Retro Pack" was $5 if you didn't pre-order it.

MP-09 JUNKYARD
Game Type: Guerrilla Warfare (16 players)
Description:
The junkyards of Helghan are a wasteland to some, but a valuable resource to others. In the main junk processing facility of Helghan, ISA and Helghast Forces are clashing in an attempt to salvage vehicles and supplies for their war effort. Jetpacks are the key to taking the high ground, but the huge Exoskeletons can quickly turn the tide of the battle on the ground.

MP-10 STAHL ARMS
Game Type: Warzone (24 Players)
Description:
As the Helghast write a new and appalling chapter on humanoid experimentation, beleaguered ISA Forces mount a desperate attack on the notorious Stahl Arms research facility, where they hope to free ISA soldiers who have been taken captive. Stahl’s Helghast forces will stop at nothing to ensure that the ISA attack fails, even if it means exterminating the very prisoners they need for their weapons research.

Exoskeletons and Jetpacks in Guerrilla Warfare? w00t. The description for Stahl Arms doesn't say it, but the GTTV preview suggests that they've got a minigun placed on the map as a special weapon, as well as a tower that is specifically set up for snipers to use.

When I saw the price for the Retro Pack, I wasn't sure how I felt about $5 for two maps, however I checked what I paid for in KZ2 for the same thing and it was $6 on each of their map packs, both of which I loved. So yeah, I'll still be picking them up.

Not sure how happy I'd be spending money on guerilla-only maps. Guerilla is boring, short, and pretty pointless to me. I played a little last night to get trophies, and probably am not ever playing it again. It's generally not worth the points either. Don't think I've seen anyone with more than 2k in the maybe 10 matches I've played of it, while many times with warzone or operations I've been over 5k, or even 10k.

I'm willing to bet that's how the maps will be packaged: a Guerrilla map and a Warzone map (with Operations allowed on one or both?).

I think Guerrilla Warfare has its uses. There are times I just want to hop into a quick, 10 min round. Can't do that in Warzone, where a good match can take 25 min. Operations varies depending on how your teams end up working out. So yeah, I like having a quick mode to jump in and jump out of. It isn't for garnering huge XP gains - it's for shooting dudes in the face.

I hated the starting weapon for engineer, and used 2 points to unlock the SMG immediately. Tier 3 weapon, along with tier3 turret I am usually the leading scorer for most warzones now. I will be out of commission for about a week unless i bring my ps3 to my sisters (taking care of her dogs while she's on vacation) so if you don't see me on thats unfortunately why.

Yeah, I kind of like playing straight deathmatch from time to time, but I'm not too keen on paying for many mode-specific maps. Although, a map full of jetpacks might get me to bite. That trailer looked sweet, and I had a lot of fun with the jetpack in the single player demo (haven't gotten it in campaign yet). $5 for 2 maps seems ok to me when the running trend with other popular shooters is $15 for 3 maps.
