Magicka Catch-All

I would love to play some coop too. I should be free any time except saturday afternoon/night.

Starting in a few minutes. I'll send invites.

That was a lot of fun. I still don't know why the game decided to use me as a lightning rod but I had a good time. I might be able to do next Saturday or Sunday again, but probably only for an hour or so.

Yeah, good times. I'd say the only thing I don't like about the game, besides its net code not liking my connection (or visa versa), is that the elemental status effects on yourself can sometimes prevent you from completing spells. I appreciate the challenge of being situationally aware, but I find I need to look right at my wizard, after several failed attempts make me grumpy, and stop the action while npcs try to claw my head off not a fun mechanic. It's a decision of complexity over fun, for me.

See you two in a week.

Yeah, the status effects are annoying, especially being wet when you are trying to Revive someone. That's why I switched to the Tron robes: I may not complete the Magick, but at least I don't lightning myself to death.

See you guys next week.

Agree about the status effects. They really need some sort of JRPG style icon in addition to the change to the character model. It's not easy to spot that you're drenched in water when things get hectic.

Also, the Tank Robes are junk in the campaign (not sure about Arena). Once I switched back to the Wizard hat I felt I was contributing more on the last few chapters we played. I wish there was a way to swap robes mid-chapter too.

Amen to that. It seems like one of those mechanics that furthers the internal logic of the game quite nicely, but in my opinion at the expense of too much of he gameplay.

Being wet should either A) Not be a status effect. B) Prevent me from using the lightning element without damaging me. C) Prevent me from using the lightning element, damage me, but give me a little "buzz" or something that prevents me from charging another element.

The real issue is that if you don't notice you're wet and then charge a big lightning spell, you instantly kill yourself because you pressed the letter five times in a hurry.

I actually like the mechanic of being wet interfering with your spell casting. The QFQFASA beam is really deadly, and getting wet makes you unable to use it. A druid casting rain doesn't do anything bad to you directly, but getting wet can spoil your day unless you're prepared for it. There are things you can do to stay dry. Mostly, it's a way for Magicka to force you to change your tactics, which in my mind only makes the game more interesting.

All of this is assuming you're playing Magicka multiplayer though. With a teammate who can throw you a rez, dying is tons less frustrating / much more funny.

Not when they keep hitting you with lightning bolt magick somehow.

I really wasn't doing it on purpose. Promise.

I was. It was funny.

When in doubt, throw on a water shield (Water+Shield+Self I think..) no more getting wet.

+1. That's what I started doing when we hit the druids who kept casting Rain.

Note to self: think of new and interesting ways to "accidentally" kill Cyrax.

I've played this game like 3 times.

Each time I ended up electrocuting myself by channeling lightning while wet.

One of these days I'm going play again and I'll probably die by channeling fire whilst wearing cloth armor.

Our death rate was maybe one wipe before a big battle, and two to four depending on the difficulty of the battle. The history of games has programmed us to die as little as possible and strive for the best, or correct way. It took me about an hour and a half for this game to de-program me of that. How do you play Magicka? Just have fun and you're likely to be successful...after a couple tries, anyway.

"REZ!"

Feel free to join the madness if you'd like. We played early afternoon Sunday, but no time set this week except, "weekend."

I can't do Saturdays in general, except maybe after 8:00 PM Pacific. Not that you guys can't play Saturday, but I won't be able to host again unless we play Sunday.

I agree, but it's way too easy to just keep pressing the lightning button and insta-die while you're wet. I like the mechanic in theory, but not in practice.

Any thoughts on timing for this Sunday? I can do basically anything in the morning and early afternoon, as long as we're done by 2:30 PM Pacific.

I think I might have to bail on this weekend, I've got to bring my car in for servicing on Saturday and I think we're tentatively looking at going into the city on Sunday afternoon...

Ok. I'll probably continue through the campaign then, even if no one else can join.

I really enjoy the co-op and don't mind replaying sections. I believe there is a chapter select option, so when we are able to get a group together again, we'll just pick up where we left off. Does that sound okay with everyone?

I should still be available Sunday afternoon.

Cool. What time works?

I'd say 1:30 EST and on.

Ok, sounds good to me.

Actually, I won't be able to make the session today.

Unfortunately, I (PocketNerd, his girlfriend) am dragging him off to a museum to be taught culture and other needed lessons. He will be happy to moan about how awful it was when he plays in next week's gaming session.

Oh well, have a good time being cultural! I won't gripe about more free time.

Anyone want to play this Sunday? Say from 10:00 to 2:00 Pacific?

I'm out of town this weekend, sorry

I am available and would enjoy some wizarding at that time.

No worries.

Sweet, see you then. Cyrax, you down?
