City of Heroes - 2011 status?

How do you know what your global handle is?

There's also a Global ID option under the tab that says "Menu"

That said, someone go buy the Going Rogue Complete Collection from Steam. According to the laws of Steam, when someone buys something at regular price it will go on sale the next day out of spite. Let me ride the coattails of that spite people!

Anyone else having problems logging in ? Servers are showing as up on the website, but I can't get it to log in at all.

Thurs morning is usually maintenance. But it should have finished a couple hours ago.

The server status on the coh site sucks. Last Thurs I found a link in the forum to one that actually works.

Found it again: http://sgspaces.net/server_status/in...

How odd, still can't connect to it through Steam. Wonder if they've changed the updater ?

Steam is supposed to launch the NCSoft Launcher now. Might want to do an integrity check on your Steam install.

Or are you just running a shortcut from Steam to cohupdater.exe? The NCSoft Launcher is the only way to launch the game now. Was supposed to be starting in Aug, so maybe that's what today's long maintenance was about. No more cohupdater, only NCSoft Launcher now.

Yeah, it's an updater issue. NCSoft are supposed to be bringing out an update to allow Steam users access, so we'll see what happens.

Works fine for me in Steam. Clicking play launches the NCSoft Launcher, which automatically launches the game. Connects fine.

How bizarre - I've repaired it, and it was loading fine this morning. But clicking the link within the Steam library just takes me to the old updater.

Anyone in a SG/VG on Freedom/Virtue? Whenever I crumble under the pressure of buying Going Rogue and want to play I'd love to get some trials going with some of you cool people.

So I finally tried to get back into City of Heroes, and it's asking me for my "call sign." I remember my account, my password, but I never had to deal with a call sign before.

Aaanyway, I sent a message to NCsoft, and we'll see what happens. Hi WoW, Lotro and Rift...

UPDATE: Ok I got in, NC Soft's customer service was ridiculously fast.

My very first impressions of the game: Holy crap the graphics are ugly now. Also, the UI is bad and the control scheme has not aged well. The players in the game though are incredibly nice, and there's a bunch of good ideas in the game.

As sad as it is to say, Champions Online and DCUO are the superior products for me at this point. They ought to be with all the great ideas they robbed from CoH. Here's hoping City of Heroes 2 is more reality than wishful thinking...

Do you not have Ultra Mode enabled? Things look a lot better with it.

Yeah I was actually pleasantly surprised at how good things looked for 7 years old. And I still can't turn all the ultra highest super settings on without dipping down into the teen FPS.

And I haven't tried DCUO, but honestly I think CoH still has a better costume creation than Champions. It's amazing how many custom powerset options they have retrofitted in as well. I was very happy with what I could change on my old Spines scrapper.

Definitely a great costume system. I actually prefer DCUO's, though, because when you get drops(like a blade for a hand) and you use them, they actually adapt to what your costume looks like. It was like I was slowly building the character over time instead of getting everything up front.

I have two villains on Freedom server, not very high level, but I had to buy a new account and prepaid for one month so good for a couple months.
Amuc - level 10 Fire/fire corruptor
Stormspain - level 3 electric/storm corruptor

What is considered the best/most powerful OP class combo at the moment? Trying to avoid easy mode and just focus on enjoying the game.

Okay, I caved. I'm having an awesome time getting all my Incarnate Slots. Forgot this game could be fun!

Double XP weekend!

It's been great so far. Made a lot of inf, managed to get both T3 Destiny and Alpha slots. Borderline addictive.

Haven't done anything with my 50s yet, alpha slot or whatever. They all need a respec to replace Stamina too and it's hard to figure out what else to take.

What is an incarnate slot? Also, is there way to change my global chat handle? Right now its some trial number.

What are your builds? I've got a little bit of experience.

Maybe under your global ID in the menu? I think you get one name change.

Thanks, figured out the global chat name change thing, global is now @Stormspain. Thanks to this past weekend's double xp weekend, Splattt the Super Strength/Invuln Brute that makes things go Splat! is level 17.

Apparently F2P kicked in for everyone this week.

Need to log back in and see how the character selection/unlock stuff works. Have way too many I'd like to play here and there.

I have access to 2 characters on a server plus 5 extra slots, so I'm glad to be playing again for free. Seems very generous, considering you can go from 1 to 50 at no charge.

Well, I'm on the Freedom server. I had a free trial like last year, so my handle seems weird.

Anyone still playing? I'll be there for the atmosphere mostly, but I tend to like to play healer.. so I might need help for leveling a few.

wasn't pinnacle our old server? I had 4 old characters on there and what's great? they are all accessible without me having to pay to unlock them. F2P only gives you 2 slots.
plus as a returning player I got a ton of bonuses.
I've never seen that from a game gone f2p. usually only if you were a lifer or if you started paying gain.

anyways, Im on Pinnacle with my 7 yr old son. FUN

Will be getting DCUO when it comes out. I actually preferred it to others, but didn't end up getting it at launch.

I'll update the server if i remember.

I'm mostly on Virtue because 1) its packed with players, thus easy to find a team, and 2) its the unofficial RP server, never a bad thing imho.

Edit to add: my 8 y.o. wants to roll a scrapper, it'd be great to team up with other goodjers w/ kids

I'm redownloading and may be bringing my 8 year old dude to play.

Hey Ducki, I'm on Freedom server as are some others from KMD if you wanna group up sometime.

Cool. I used one of my 2 slots on some character I had from long ago... Lapis Lazuli or something. I think that's on Liberty. He's level 5, but I think I may need to reroll so I can relearn how to play.

Just started a Going Rogue evil-ish Mastermind on Freedom; my first character of note, after putting around with one in the free game. Would love some friendly companions.
