Portal 2 Catch-All

I've made it through the first section and a little bit of the second. I tend to plan out and repetitively try levels so my times are fairly fast, but there are definitely improvements that can be made.

So, I figured out that the graphs show the global community stats (after being told on IRC). From that, you can figure out if you are at the minimal amount of portals possible per level. This opened up a whole new aspect to the game because there are ridiculously low portal requirements to "win". You will get one below your friend's score and then look at the global and realize you still need to cut out another. Once you figure it out, it is incredibly satisfying. I'm loving it. People complained about Portal 2 being too easy which it kinda was but not in a bad way. The challenge mode removes this problem and makes this game ridiculously hard to find the minimum portal solution.

Anyways, thanks Valve for this awesome update.

My most recent victory was doing The Cold Boot - Pit Flings in 2 portals. It's actually fairly difficult to do it in just 4. Took me 30 minutes or so to figure it out and execute it.

As I mentioned earlier, if anybody else wants to add me to their friend's list for a challenge, please do. I'm not using youtube videos or anything to figure these things out in case you are concerned.

I'm excited for this new community editing/sharing thing. It will be excellent to have community built levels show up in game.

Oh sh*t. That is super sweet.

Man I still have to play the new content.

So, maybe I missed this, but how do you get the new content? I downloaded some fan made maps a while back, but when the game itself updated all I see are the challenge maps where you compete for lowest portals / fastest time. They were all old maps though.

There are no new single player maps. There is a new 10 level coop course, though. If you need a reason to play the challenge maps in single player, add me on steam and beat my times/portal numbers. It's actually very challenging to get the low portal numbers in levels. I really enjoy it.

The new content is co-op.

Might already have the lows ;), but I'll add you to make sure!

Thanks. I'll have to go find a friend again.

If you have better times / portal counts than tuffalobuffalo, you may want to consider seeking medical attention for your obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Same here. I even installed it on PS3 the other day so I'm ready for coop, but I just keep forgetting about it.

Just finished going through this with a random limey this morning (thank you kitteh alarm!) While it was quite enjoyable and the ending cut scene was classic Portal/GLaDOS/Valve, it also wasn't anything 'new', and there was no expansion on the storylines from the main campaigns. It was much more of an inside joke based on events in the main game.

But what a great joke. <3

We did it! We [finally] saved science! Finished Co-Op for the first time (still haven't done the free DLC).

Amazing!

Just picked this up in the Steam sale and burned through it. Such a great game!

Free soundtrack Portal 2.
Over here!

Thought I was necro-ing this.

Ahem.
While my wife tentatively agreed to play Portal with a view to co-oping Portal 2 with me, at dinner time, by the time the kids went to bed she had changed her mind. This will likely be the ongoing problem. By that time we're both drained of energy with only enough left to veg out in front of Netflix. I think that I recharge better with gaming than she does. For her it may be effort.

Regardless,

I'll probably need a stranger to play the co-op portion. I just beat the SP a few days ago. I can say that I enjoyed this one almost as much as the first.
If you're lacking a co-op opportunity between 8:30-11:00pm EST ping me. I'm also Ghostship on steam. While there are a few with that name, I'll probably be the only one in the GWJ group.

Ghostship, I haven't played the co-op before either, and I'm on Pacific time. Steam profile link in my sig. Let's try to connect.

Same here -- played the campaign, never did the co-op. I'm on Pacific time, and can play Mon-Thu from 7pm until about 11pm. My Steam profile is in my sig.

Hey Cyranix, I think I played TF2 with you on Stan's within the past few months; you're already on my friends list.

Fantastic. Loved the soundtrack to this one, delightfully chiptuny.

Thirded, profile in sig, hit me up, yadda.

So I picked this up in the recent sale and must admit that it's a lot of fun so far. I've just hit chapter 5 and the game is really starting to ramp up. It was a little slow there in the beginning, but now I'm finding it quite awesome. The eyebot is just awesome. I want someone to make a fallout new vegas mod that replaces ede with this dude.

Just breached chapter 6. Really enjoying it now. Seemed like it was a little slow in the beginning, but this is just pure awesome fun now.

I don't recall seeing this posted: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUwkG...

It's an animated telling of the comic with The National song from the game in the background. It's pretty well done.

Finally fired up co-op mode with my son. The most hilarious thing is to shoot me with lasers, drop me in the acid, or crush me in the machinery, as well as deliberately get into the wrong elevator at the end of the level. GlaDOS is also implying that I suck.

We're laughing like maniacs.

That's the best way to play it. Reminds me of the Mother's Day my boys spent beating each other's heads on the walls and ceilings with carefully miss-aimed orange portals.

Cooperative testing initiative complete.

Finished the Art Therapy missions with tboon tonight. Great stuff.

I still have trouble understanding how a puzzle that seems completely impossible, for well over ten minutes, can suddenly resolve into a simple execution problem. Hooray for science!

The best part is when I do something really dumb and my son starts falling about laughing.

For instance, aiming badly when flinging myself up to the entrance to the next set of levels, and falling to my doom. (Glados: "That wasn't even a test!" Me: "..." Son: *helpless laughter*. I still say he somehow got in my way.)

Yeah, some real twisted brain twisters for sure. But the "aha!" moment is superb. Good times man! It only took us what? 8 or 9 months to get through it?
