Is the chat persistent, as it appears in messages on the iPad, or does,it all 'fade away into the ether' once you close your browser window?
I've managed to get onto the web chat client via the link in General Crespin's sig, but I can't quite figure out which bits to put where in the IRC999 app.
Might bite the bullet and pay for one of the ones with a prettier GUI.

Looks like Mango disconnects on screen dim, which kind of defeats the purpose. Interface was clean enough, with status/input line along the top.
Does Lime disconnect on dim Clover?
So far, WebChat looks to be the most reliable (and cheapest) option
Limechat disconnects after running uninterrupted in the background for ten minutes (like anything iOS). If you page back and forth to it in that timespan, or if you let the screen dim while it's the foreground program, it stays connected indefinitely.
Try giving 999 another go? PM me if it won't sort out right.

Everyone deserves a second chance. Even if they'll probably just c*ck it up.
This one is kind of nice, and it keeps the chat window very well organised.
Plus it is free at the moment (usually $1.99) so it might be worth a look for those looking
I use Quassel. It stays connected to IRC at home. I connect to it via a client from wherever I am. Multiple clients can connect simultaneously to the same session.
The Quassel client on Android works great. Not sure about iQuassel though.
Yeah, I'm now a Quassel fan too. Wasn't able to find an iOS compatible client though.

There's apparently an iOS client but it's iPad-only, no help for my phone.
So I just got notified that my IP address is on the DNS blacklist. Does this mean that work is finally caught on and is blocking my access? (IRC Illiterati here)
Anyone else having a hard time connecting this morning?

Nope - whole bunch of us are in-channel right now, in fact.
(Including some folks on the web client, which I think is what you were using?)
Nope.
Man, still can't connect. I go to the website, try to log on and it just hangs there for about a minute and then says - "couldn't connect to remote server."
Any ideas?

Get MIRC, or a different non-browsery one? Webchat's connected for me, but been very spotty.
I use HydraIRC its free. Hurry up and get back in irc, things are getting out of control without you.
I just found out that KiwiIRC works with QuakeNet (some of the other clients like Mibbit are blocked). I'll be trying it out today. Hopefully it will be more reliable than the QuakeNet webclient.
Oh wow, KiwiIRC isn't blocked at work... yet. Somehow I've still managed to put off setting up my own proxy, and this just enables it

Really, really bored at work as I have a lot of down time, which is fine, but I'm really, really sad I can't access IRC as work blocks it. Boo.
Think a IRC bouncer would help? That's how I get around Verizon blocking it.
I believe that requires installing things and I'm unable to do that on my setup. And I haven't been here long enough to get administrator rights from the IT people.
If there's one which allows me to do it through a browser, then that'll work.
Here is a portable IRC client that doesn't need to be installed. http://portableapps.com/apps/interne...
I can't edit my IRC bouncer but can try to set you up an account once I get home today.

Install the chatzilla extension in firefox.

Stuck with IE9. This is the most locked down I've ever been on a pc and it sucks.

Will give it a shot. Thanks.

There's a portable version of Firefox on the same website Edwin linked.
