Gamers With Jobs - Unofficial IRC Channel

Have you tried just irc.quakenet.org? Is there a reason you want to connect to that specific server? Just going to the address I listed will let the network automatically choose the server.

Also I just tried gameservers.tx.us.quakenet.org in mIRC and it connected, but I don't use Colloquy so I dunno what else there is to it.

maybe some find in feature lacking, but the web based gui is good enough for me

The plot thickens:

(1:55:57 AM) Cyranix-clone: but tonight was a night of great revelry
(1:56:04 AM) df7: What did you do?
(1:56:08 AM) Cyranix-clone: and i have a plane to catch in... 4 hours
(1:56:23 AM) Cyranix-clone: mild carousing with beautiful, beautiful women from my previous life
(1:56:30 AM) df7: Better sober up before security.
(1:56:31 AM) katisu: lol
(1:56:42 AM) Cyranix-clone: i would not trade my current state for THE WORLD

(1:57:25 AM) Cyranix-clone: I AM CYRANIX, MASTER OF HIS DOMAIN
(1:57:36 AM) Cyranix-clone is now known as Cyranix
(1:57:50 AM) Cyranix: and this cyranix fella has to wake up in about two hours
(1:58:07 AM) Cyranix: more tales of passion and merriment to follow in ~12 hrs
(1:58:19 AM) Cyranix: catch you aussie homeys on the flip side
(1:58:34 AM) Cyranix left the room (quit: Quit: In vino veritas, bitches).

Thank you for capturing that. It was probably the drunkest moment of my life, enough that I didn't actually remember signing into IRC. Tales of "passion" are not really available, per se, but merriment was certainly plentiful.

And yes, I did manage to make my flight, on two or three hours of sleep.

That's some fantastic spelling ability for being so drunk. My hat's off to you.

Seriously. Perfect spelling and even some punctuation (commas). If I was as drunk as you say you were (memory loss), there would be typos everywhere. Either that or it would take me a full minute to type each correctly-spelled line, compared to the 10-20 seconds between your lines.

I am mightily impressed with that.

*doffs his cap*

Blurring the line between chat and gaming, I've set up an Acrophobia/Acromania bot on quakenet, in the channel #acrophobia.

The way it works is, the bot makes up an acronym:

AcroBot wrote:

12:01 <+AcroBot> A new game of acro is starting! Use the form /MSG AcroBot ANSWER to submit something.
12:01 <+AcroBot> Suggested topic: Diss the bot!
12:01 <+AcroBot> Acro for this round: JLSLWCC
12:01 <+AcroBot> Length of acro is 7, I give you 90 seconds to make your acro.

Each person in the channel then makes up the words that acronym represents, and message it to the bot:

RangerRick wrote:

/msg AcroBot just like spielberg, losers win cracklin' corn

When the time limit is up, the bot lists the choices, and everyone votes for their favorite (you don't get points for voting for your own):

AcroBot wrote:

12:03 <+AcroBot> Time is up!
12:03 <+AcroBot> Current Acros:
12:03 <+AcroBot> [1] just like spielberg, losers win cracklin' corn
12:03 <+AcroBot> [2] joo lick stuff like wrinkled c*ck callouses
12:03 <+AcroBot> [3] Just Lose Something Lengthy When Counting Curses
12:03 <+AcroBot> Start voting !! You have 30 seconds. Use the form /MSG AcroBot NUMBER to submit a vote.

...the bot compiles the points, and prints out who voted for what:

AcroBot wrote:

12:03 <+AcroBot> All votes are in! On with the scores then!
12:03 <+AcroBot> Time's up! Let's see the result of the voting...
12:03 <+AcroBot> RangerRick's acro "just like spielberg, losers win cracklin' corn" got 1 vote(s) from: {[gwj]gore}
12:03 <+AcroBot> [gwj]gore's acro "joo lick stuff like wrinkled c*ck callouses" got 2 vote(s) from: RangerRick GWJStryker
12:03 <+AcroBot> GWJStryker's acro "Just Lose Something Lengthy When Counting Curses" got no votes this round
12:03 <+AcroBot> RangerRick was the first one to vote for a winning acro and receives 1 bonus point!
12:03 <+AcroBot> [gwj]gore got the most votes and receives 3 points!
12:03 <+AcroBot> Scores: RangerRick: 5 [gwj]gore: 3
12:03 <+AcroBot> Next round starts in 15 seconds!

First person to 30 points wins.

It's a lot of fun...

Q: What do you get when you repeat to Goodjer a question from the naughty lips of katisu?

#GWJ wrote:

[23:45] < Cyranix > Goodjer: Have you ever fantasized about getting a spanking from an older man?
[23:45] < Goodjer > Cyranix: I was about to get back to doing that work for you man.

A: Nightmares.

Goodjer is awesome! He's also a goodjer goodjer -- just ask him!

Goodjer has been spilling the beans on Coldstream lately:

18:28 <+katisu> Goodjer HA HA HA
18:28 <+Goodjer> katisu: Ha ha, oh man. Coldstream is king of cosmos would
send you a poor man's m5.
18:29 <+katisu> Goodjer: so coldstream is the king of the cosmos? wow, just wow
18:29 <+Goodjer> katisu: Coldstream: that would be the king.
18:30 <+katisu> Goodjer: what did coldstream do to you?
18:30 <+Goodjer> katisu: Coldstream is great. It's why i do to my awful report.

I love having an excuse to bump this thread I've started posting some of the funnier ramblings from Goodjer, the channel's insane bot, on to Twitter:

http://twitter.com/goodjerbot

Nice, pneuman

Would it be hard to hook goodjerbot up to the twitter feed directly? It'd be another source of text input for him, as well as another medium to transmit his charming algorithmic insanity.

Don't forget:

< Goodjer > Stengah: Threesome quest failed. Broken quest, mob never spawned.

Luckily, we speak L33t.

I LOL'd.

That is the funniest bullsh*t i've seen in long time. Oh god!

/me dies

Sweet f*cking Christ, that was worse than building a VB GUI to trace someone's IP.

I'd bump the 1 year anniversary thread if I could find it... :p

Currently we have nearly 40 people in the channel. Come say hi! Meet the famous Goodjer!

so many ppl are IRC now...... oh goodness...

Dammit my remote Windows box has been down for a couple of days now and I can't access IRC any other way

Not even the web interface in my sig?

Not even through SSH?

General Crespin wrote:

Leaving a Browser window at work all day tends to attract "attention"

Bonus_Eruptus wrote:

I do have SSH access but again, my job and seating arrangement can lead to .. issues. Leave a remote desktop window open all day and no one bats an eye. Leaving a SSH window open all day is likely to invite comment fairly quickly.

You could set up a virtual machine with Windows that would look close enough to remote desktop. Pipe the IRC connection on the virtual machine through an SSH tunnel (also in the VM, but minimized). No batted eyes, no hassles.

My remote Windows machine *is* a virtual machine - I normally leave xchat running on that machine and remote desktop into it. Unfortunately, it "crashed hard" (the hosting provider's words, not mine) 3 days ago and they haven't been able to fix it

I meant more along the lines of running a VM locally through VirtualBox. Depends what you can get away with and how locked down your machine is.

Might be able to do that actually - sounds like an interesting weekend project.. Assuming my head is actually functioning after tonight's planned revelries.

[17:26] <+katisu> i can go look at pneuman's c*ck if i want
[17:26] <+pneuman> what's this about miniscule c*cks?

That was taken out of context, sir! We were talking about Chatroulette

That's what you always say.

Given the recent question, I thought I'd reaffirm that people do use IRC. We average 40 to 50 users on a daily basis and thanks to the Asian, Australian, and European contingent there are at least a few users active at all hours. Of course, we are gamers with jobs so most of us are active during the American working day.

And of course, Goodjer still entertains.

< Goodjer > katisu: Hello I am animej i do not possess a sense of humour.
