GWJ Mobile Version is Live

Jeff managed to find a way to get the site to detect mobile browsers and load up with the paired down "90's" version of the site. He says we even have the capability of detecting things like iPads and tablets so we can even do a re-mix of the site to suit those better too. Very cool!

Poke around with it and let us know how it goes. It's a straight port of that design right now, nothing too highly engineered on the layout front. Just visit gamerswithjobs.com on your phone!

Just noticed it. Definitely easier to browse through on my iPhone than the standard version.

I would suggest that a sans-serif font would help things out.

Thanks for working on the mobile site!

Is there a url for the mobile site? That's how I browse here at work and the old one isn't working.

It seems to auto detect from the same url for me (using Android 2.1 and Dolphin). VERY slick and much easier to get around.

edit -- by "same url" I mean www.gamerswithjobs.com.

A HUGE thank you to Jeff for all the hard work on this!!

I noticed the change yesterday. It's much easier to navigate with the mobile site. I think it's a great change. Many thanks to Jeff!

It's great! I really like it!

Gotcha, thanks for the clarification. I am now GWJ-less at work. I'll go cry now.

I like it! Great job

So it this your way of getting around developing an Android app?

Really liking it on my Android phone.

Technically, there is a android GWJ app (for the Conference Call atleast). Problem is it's not very good :(. But I don't want to derail this thread.

I don't see any difference on my Incredible with Dolphin or my Kindle Fire, also with Dolphin.

Is this still available, or is there a URL I can use to force it? It's not working with my new Droid Razr.

EDIT: Okay, I take it back ... it is working, but I have to put my phone in landscape to read. I was hoping it would give me a narrower screen.

I don't see anything different on my Windows 7 phone, either. Or it was already detecting my phone before and showing me the mobile site instead. When did you guys start rolling this out?

I probably should have made it clear that I was resurrecting a year and a half old thread...

I was just curious about how it was supposed to work, because unlike most mobile-specific sites it gives me tiny text. The "90's" layout works a little better than the default for my phone. No side menus is good. But the tiny text isn't helping. If I knew how to capture a screenshot on my phone, I would.

If you're running ICS on your RAZR, try holding down the power button and the volume down button at the same time for a few seconds.

Thanks for the screenshot tips.

This is what it looks like in the default ICS browser on my RAZR. (Earlier, I was trying to take screenshots before upgrading my OS :D). It's actually not *too* bad, because the main column of text is a fixed width that I can zoom into. I miss seeing whose posts are what though.

I also tried installing Opera, and "single-column mode" was closest to what I was hoping for, but it tends to moosh everything together and make things difficult to read.

Has someone mentioned the mobify version? https://gamerswithjobs.mobify.com/

Wow, that works great! Thanks!

Is that safe to log in through?

I guess we'll find out, if my account starts posting spam.

I've been using the nobody link since it first rolled out...

Yes, DoogieMac set it up so it's being run by us.
