What are you playing this weekend?

Well, I WAS gonna play Flight Simulator 2024, but I think they need to sort out more problems before I do, sadly. I love the idea of the career mode, but right now it's a buggy, player-hostile mess of a thing.

So I'll likely be playing more Warhammer Inquisitor and Taxinaut.

Anyway this cake is great
So deliciously moist.

Cyberpunk 2077 - for the GWJ rpg game club. Just pulled my Phantom Liberty V. off the rack to finish the base game. 119 hours and counting.

Death Stranding - all the music in this game is phenomenal. The game is pretty interesting as well.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic if I have leftover time.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 really has it’s hooks in me- it might have been my GOTY if Metaphor hadn’t also released this year.

More LOTRO, where my lvl 66 LM has joined the Lorien expedition into Mirkwood and is moving steadily Eastward. Just rescued some poor little chap from some evil orcs - hope he finds the 'hobbitses' he's looking for.

Other than that - more ETS2, where I shall be moving towards Greece in advance of the DLC, which drops on 4 Dec.

Look at me still talking
When there’s science to do!

silent hill 2 remake, this game that I played and loved in 2003 on the PC version.

192.168.100.1 192.168.1.1

I ended up playing MSFS 2024 anyway, because even with its warts, I'm finding its career mode too compelling to skip.

The UK Region pack for Cities Skylines 2 has dropped, so that's on the list. Also trying to win my first Balatro game, and I'll probably find something new to play as well.

Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader.

It has its hooks in me. 14 hours in, and I went through several standard stages of encountering a very complex challenge: curious, cautious, intimidated, determined, bewildered, overwhelmed, focused, and finally getting a bit confident... Pretty typical for getting into the deep end of any big-time RPG.

I think I'll be ok. I like the intro chapter of the story, I like the characters (so far) and I liked the WH40k universe separate from this game anyway. On the rough side, the level progression system is absolutely overwhelming with scores of talents and characteristics between a dozen classes. I found it super-intimidating, and immediately started to overthink and almost went online to look for tips. But, then I remembered the golden rule: stop thinking of what I SHOULD do (to satisfy arbitrary game rules) and start thinking about what I WOULD do if I was in that situation, however unlikely it may be. It's an RPG, after all, not a balance sheet in Excel.

For example, I naturally lean towards the Iconoclast conviction (effectively humanist), which is fairly atypical in the practically fascist Imperium. But then I remembered that in the WH40k universe gods and magic actually exist and it’d be irrational to disregard that fact. So, I will have to be juggling between Iconoclast and Dogmatic. Also, I like my main characters to be dual-wielders. That’s how I ended up with dual wand wielding Battle Mage in Divinity: Original sin and it worked out fantastic for me. I used him as a ranged support and “cleaner” of weakened enemies. I was looking around the Internet to see what I missed after I finished the game and I literally saw not a single recommendation for a dual-wand Battle Mage. So, therefore in Rogue Trader, I’m going with a dual-wielding Noble Officer. No idea if it is meta or not, but I don’t care…

I am sure I will make a bunch of sub-optimal decisions and picks, but a good RPG should let you play the way you want and have enough slack for a path to victory even if you don't hit optimal meta-combo of skills, stats and equipment.

I’d like to be playing Aliens: Dark Descent but I have to wait for it to come out on PS Plus next week. In the meantime, I have a new Pro controller and it does seem to have radically improved my aim i.e. I’m hitting my targets rather than memorialising their imminent victory by drawing an outline of them with bullet holes on the wall behind. That being the case, I’m really feeling some Uncharted or Helldivers.

Dunno but I've got the house to myself this weekend, so I will probably be naked.

Aspirationally, I aim to finally dig into 1000xRESIST.

But odds are strong with Minecraft & Pokemon TCG Pocket.

When the kids are asleep: Cyberpunk 2077 for the CRPG club.

During the day:
Tried a bit of SIGNALIS yesterday, and it seems pretty neat. So more of that.
Need to get started on the System Shock remake for the action game club as well, especially since I nominated it.
If I need something especially family friendly, I might play some Stacking.

Silent Hill 2: It's pretty good for an impulse Black Friday buy. Can't say its scary but I like some of the puzzles and actually liked the melee combat although simplistic. But now I got a gun and seems like a ton of ammo so may not have to melee much anymore.

Playing this at night.

Ys IX: Monstrum Nox: Playing this during the day.

It dropped low enough on GOG to purchase. I skipped over this one in favor of X Nordics but after playing Nordics for a few hours I really wanted to go through this previous game and see what happened.

Was initially relucent to get it as it seemed so dreary, particularly coming of Lacrimosa of Dana. But its actually not that bad and the story and characters have been decent so far. So having fun with it.

Metro Awakening: Still going through my second playthrough on the native Quest 3 version. Initially I wasn't impressed with how it was compared to the PCVR version but as I've played it the lower resolution textures and missing particle effects have become a non-issue. It actually plays better for me than the PCVR version so having just as much fun as I did on that one.

Cyberpunk 2077 is my comfort game now and playing my second character for the RPG game club as well.

Death Stranding for more chill gameplay. Well, it's chill until I have to deal with BTs.

Dex - I reinstalled this a few nights ago and started fooling around with it. I bounced off hard years ago because I hated the melee combat but never gave the RPG side a fair chance.

I need to find three more veil guardians. (If not more).

This weekend should be a mix of Terranigma, Utawarerumono Prelude to the Fallen, and Earth Defense Force World Brothers.

Oh me too. Its been fun and I can't to play more.

Still wrapped up in Stalker 2. They released a patch this morning that’s supposed to fix a lot of the technical issues but I haven’t had time to test it yet.

I bought Unicorn Overlord and brought it home with me over Thanksgiving, and it has been great! I'm totally loving it. Do we have a thread for Unicorn Overlord? I recall a lot of discussion of it on the Discord channel, which I use infrequently -- and which work now blocks. (Boo!).

When I get home tomorrow, I'm probably going to try to press on toward the end of Metaphor: ReFantazio. I I have one final story mission left, in the very definitely final boss area, and an optional, very tough boss to take on.

I grabbed quite a few Switch games on Black Friday sale, so it's time to work through those. First up - Super Mario Wonder. So far (beat one boss so far), it seems delightful.

Right now it's Yakuza 0 on the PC with keyboard. Yes, I know, using a gamepad is better but I'm such a luddite grognard that I'm mentally stuck in mouse and keyboard.

This game is basically Grand Theft Tokyo.

Also replays of Baldur's Gate 3, WoW, and I've installed Expeditions: Rome and Jagged Alliance 3.

I'm hoping to mayyyybe finish Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Gamepad is not better. Consoles are inferior. Fact.

Anyway, with Hall Effect keyboards now available, console controllers will definitely remain fully obsolete.

Clearly you aren’t a real Yakuza.

My LM has just hit 70, and is working their way through Enedwaith. Them black goats (Druggavar) still creep me out, but I'm slightly overlevelled for this area, so they aren't as much of a problem.

I went back to Teslagrad 2 and rage-quit about a minute in. Then I started Cloudpunk, and so far it's very chill and more engaging than I thought it would be. I'm curious to see how the story unfolds.

Tell that to my brand new flaming red (black one wasn't on sale) Xbox controller. I use PS4 wired one for fighting games.

Yeah I'm anti-console, but actually factually, some games are made for controllers and vice versa. For the few good console games on PC I'd be missing out if I'd shun the controllers.

I was referencing this disclaimer that’s displayed at the beginning of the PC ports of all the Yakuza games:

…but thanks for the reminder of how obnoxious pc forums were in the year 2006.

(for the record, I mostly play on PC these days, but I don’t feel the desperate need to defend it by attacking other’s preferences)
