What are you playing this weekend?

I've been on a FPS kick lately. In order I played through some of COD: MW3, Battlefield I, Battlefield V, Hell Let Loose, Arma: Reforger and now I'm checking out Insurgency: Sandstorm.

Insurgency is essentially a first person version of Socom US Navy Seals from back on the PS2 era. It has very similar maps, modes and loadouts plays like a more tactical COD. It has an awesome and challenging PVE co-op mode with a bunch of different objectives. I'm having a great time with it.

Animal Well. I knew I was hooked around the time I found the slinky puzzles.

I'll continue playing the very cute, very adorable The Cruel King and the Great Hero.

Finished CrossCode way too late last night.

Basically the same plan this weekend, since it didn't really happen last except for the planned CrossCode push.

Mostly though, I intend to start the second/last part of Breakout 13, titled "Fight!" and finish it. In fact, I'm gonna do that right after hitting post.

Back to Octopath Traveler II for me, and a little bit of Final Fantasy XVI mixed in. Hugo Kupka must die.

WoW, DREDGE, and Potion Craft: Alchemist Simulator

I'm still juggling two club games, Octopath Traveler 2 and Crosscode. I'm sort of going back and forth when I need a break from one. Right now it's more Octopath, but that can change.

After wrapping up Robocop and Terminator and hence getting my 80's fix for an undetermined future period, I was looking for the next single player FPS assignment in my Mound of Shame (TM)(C)(R).

I found Ghostwire: Tokyo. May as well, I guess...

Well, turns out Ghostwire: Tokyo is less of a First Person Shooter, and more of a First Person Spellcaster. Still an FPS, I guess... As it's over two years old, I'm sure many of you played it already, but I went in pretty much blind.

It's a weird mix... To begin with, it looks phenomenal. Modern day Tokyo in the rainy night is a wonderful environment for a game. I find story to be barely adequate, but I'm old and cynical, so what do I know. Anywhoo, you get possesed by a demon, everybody disappears and deadly fog covers the city. You start encountering creepy "visitors" which you can kill with "PEW PEW" from your fingers, but then you turn the corner and run into a convenience store staffed by a levitating cat...

Whatever you pick up, you get info about it added to your Database which you eventually realize is filling up with trivia about Japanese snacks, culture and history. The banter between you and the cop demon evolves from contentious, strained and distrustful to eventually mentor-like and somewhat friendly. And then there are side missions, which delve into borderline proper horror at the level of the first F.E.A.R. ...

So, veeeery weird, but interesting mix.

Once the map starts opening up and different collectables, equipment and improvements begin to get revealed, you'll also realize it is a very dangerous playground for brains affected by OCD and/or ADHD to any degree (raises hand). I am, for example, very completionist by nature, but I also get easily distracted by new shiny things, so I'm inflicting lots of backtracking on myself due to inherent lack of discipline. My fault, not the game's.

I am pretty sure I'll run this until the credits. For sure will not get all the collectables, but I'll get close. I usually do.

It doesn't overstay it's welcome, you'll see credits.

I really enjoyed the hell out of it but the story is nonsensical and forgettable.

Heading out of town and have been playing around with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on the Switch when not near my other consoles, so I'll likely play a little bit of that, some SMT IV, and some Monster Hunter Rise with my daughter.

Darkwood I am just taking my time with this one, but its pretty amazing so far.

I played about a dozen hours and it's brutally difficult early on. I wish it was bit more intuitive.

Downloaded a demo of Dave the Diver a million years ago. Maybe I will actually fire that up.

World of Warcraft: The War Within early access starts this afternoon. The non-epic peasants will be able to join in on Monday.

People were lukewarm on Ghostwire on release but I really like it.

Tactical Breach Wizards! Going to pick it up as soon as my workday is over.

Hakuoki: Kyoto Winds on the PS Vita, and No Man's Sky on the PS5.

My goal for NMS is to reach the centre of the galaxy, but it feels like I'm still a long way from even starting that mission. I'm still doing the extended tutorial that is The Artemis Path. At this stage, completing the main game in 30 hours seems very optimistic.

On the menu this weekend: more Earth Defense Force 6 (PC).

Same as the last two weekends, but with the addition of Breath of Fire III (PS1).

Last weekend didn't go as planned either and didn't have time to play much. So mainly just played some Kingdom Rush 5 trying to max out all the stars. But...

Star Wars: Outlaws is coming up. Did end up getting the gold version so will have the 3-day early start on that one and am looking forward to it.

Banishers: Had dropped off from playing this as I didn't have time to invest in it but did get one session in. Was able to take out this large "wolf/bear" scourge which was kinda fun. The game does look really nice and showed that with the buildup to that fight. As you're tracking this scourge you keep coming across locations that were totally obliterated by it. Just trees knocked over, bomb like holes in the ground, massive paw prints in the mud, camps just completely devastated. All looked great and added to the mood.

So hopefully get to put more time in to this this weekend.

Udio: Finally finished this funk song I had been working on for over a month. It actually came out quite well if I do say so myself. This tool is just a lot of fun to play with. But no real ideas for a next song yet so hoping for some inspiration this weekend.

Cities Skylines 2 new city start to use all the learning from my last one and make an even more realistic one.

That and a meta game of deciding whether I want to buy tactical breach wizards or sins of a solar empire 2 given both are on special.

WoW: TWW

Seconded. I enjoyed it enough to Platinum. Timed really well not to overstay its welcome.

With only 3 missions away from catching up to the High Rank missions where I last left off in Astera, my Hammer-wielding Slugger/Stamina Thief build in Monster Hunter: World continues. Otherwise, with only the boss fight to go, I'm right on the cusp of finishing Futaba's palace in Persona 5 Royal, meaning soon I'll be able to escape July's gravity and start blasting through August on the in-game calendar.

Between these two titles, I'll be finding myself Dancing in Sapphire Starlight.

Tactical Beach Wizards and Rack & Slay

O.M.G...

They pulled one of the most disgusting tropes: something happens and you wake up with no weapons/powers... Why? WHYYYY? I picked my powers and weapons carefully to complement my playstyle. I don't need a challenge, I don't WANT a damned challenge, I want to complete the game!

Oh, It makes me... mad...

It makes me mad in the same way like when I'm driving and nearly avoid a car accident. Yes, I appreciate it not ending bad, but I don't sit in my car IRL to get from A to B only to be almost killed by an NPC half way through. If I wanted a challenge, I'd play Dead Souls 3, or go out for a walk or something.

So mad...

Finished Manifold Garden last night - which is incredible!
Got most of the way through Fire Escape as well. So that will be completed soon.

After that, more Spiritfarer and I'll once again pretend that I'll make great progess in Dead Space 2 - at least I turned it on last time, though I didn't continue the game.

Kunitsu-Gami Path of the Goddess which so far seems amazing and continued adventures in button pressing in Street Fighter 6.

Warframe and replaying W40k: Space Marine before the sequel drops. There may be some time for Nobody Wants to Die.
