What are you playing this weekend?

Will be dividing my time between Octopath Traveler II, Crosscode, and Cyberpunk 2077. Might have some dalliances with SMT IV, as well.

Still plugging through and enjoying the Elden Ring DLC. 44 hours in and still haven't explored all the areas or completed the main quest.

Tried the newly-released Zenless Zone Zero last night and while it bleeds Persona-levels of style and charm I was severely disappointed with the actual game part of it. I really liked Honkai Star Rail (and to a lesser extent Genshin Impact) but this feels like they spent more time designing the gacha mechanics than any other part of the game. The combat is extremely simplistic and repetitive even when you’ve got a full party of characters, the levels are all functionally identical tiny combat arenas that are often only one or two rooms, and half the missions are just moving a cursor around a tiled puzzle board.

Back to Elden Ring it is, I guess.

Determined to finish two Udio songs I generated but haven't been able to complete. One is Beatles-esque and the other is a funk song. So that's my main goal this weekend - burn through those generation tokens.

Remnant 2: Got addicted to this again after starting a new run with the newly purchased DLC.

Have a Summoner/Invoker build going. And they are badass. The flying summons are slow to attack but do decent damage. And the Invokers first spell does massive area damage shredding common monsters and mini-bosses. It also heals my summons which is a nice benefit too.

Hitting a fair bit of new stuff in this playthrough. Some of it is the DLC but also a fair bit is stuff is from the original game I didn't come across in my first playthroughs. So pretty happy with the game after jumping back in to it so soon again.

Picked up Suicide Squad on the Steam sale. It feels like a Rocksteady game in its aesthetics and presentation. It's got AAA polish. The open world is beautiful and the traversal feels like a mixture of Crackdown and Sunset Overdrive (two of my all time favorites).

However,...

Because the traversal system needs to accommodate 4 slightly different movesets, it doesn't feel like there is a whole lot of depth or challenge or progress to the movement dynamics (all of which were core gameplay elements in games like Crackdown, Sunset Overdrive, and Spiderman).

And, the main gameplay loop feels kind of hollow compared to the Arkham games. The combat encounters are very well done, but there is repetitive sameness to them which feels like one of the hallmarks of live service games.

Still, for me, at $20 it is absolutely worth the purchase price to be able of live in the Rocksteady DC universe again for a while.

I've recently found myself falling back into Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, which I've started from the beginning. I'm not sure why I petered out last time, but I'm taking it much more casually this time, and am having a lot more fun.

Selaco. Doom + Fear = Awesome

More Elden Ring. I’ve done some epic dungeon delves and explored more of the areas. The game feels very puzzly and very Dark Souls but with Elden Ring’s freedoms and epic sky boxes.

Mainly catching up on some club thread games so that I can be part of the conversation DURING the quarter, not afterward, so that means Octopath Traveler II (just started), CrossCode (not yet started), and Eiyuden Chronicles: Rising (halfway done). Besides that, I hope to finish up Yakuza: Kiwami 2 (nearly done) and will probably sprinkle in some mindless relaxing stuff with pinball and retro arcade games.

Having picked up one of those cheap retro handhelds, I'm found an absolute GEM that Metal Slug fans should check out by the name of Moo Mesa. Seriously, it's Metal Slug with COWS and it's glorious.

Now that I've caught up to the calendar in Persona 5 Royal, I was thinking of getting myself situated for a massive Mementos dive before finally digging into Octopath Traveller II. I've also started the tutorial for CrossCode, which is mighty tempting, because it hits thus far.

I'm jazzed to play Selaco but I generally don't like to play incomplete games in Early Access, just because I don't want to have to replace through the rest of the game later when it's actually complete. Does Selaco feel close to complete at this point?

My original plan was to try and beat Earth Defence Force 5 (my GOTY so far), but I just did that, so the next goal is to continue Majora's Mask and see if I can finish the third dungeon.

Just bought Terminator: Resistance at a great discount on Steam. Thanks to the amazing Robocop game, Teyon got themselves another sale.

Installing it now, we'll see if I make time for it between Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, Hell Let Loose and TF2, which are my current mainstays.

Nop, wait... Narita Boy...

Holy Batman's underwear...

Dredge. I'm very close to the end!

Rogue Trader. It's one of the best WH40K games ever made from a lore perspective, and an RPG in 40K is sorely needed.

The game is great, but typical Owlcat games it gets bloated and excessive at times, but somehow it works for the 40K universe. At the best of times, it reminds me a lot of Baldur's Gate 2, so I'm willing to deal with the occasional warts on such a high quality ambitious title.

Also, when I need some immediate gratification, and since it's 4th of July weekend, nothing wrong with squashing a few Terminid bugs in HELLDIVERS 2 for Managed Democracy.

Both of these will be high on my 2024 GOTY list.

Finished Elden Ring DLC a week ago, so now I started a fresh playthrough.
Should be tending to my poor game Pile. But what can you do.

Still working on Symphony of War, since I'm about 2/3s or more through it. I'll also be working on Octopath Traveler 2 with the JRPG club, but there's a lot of club games that I'm down to play this quarter.

Getting into FFVII Rebirth! It's taken a bit to let a yet-another-open-world game get under my skin, but I think I'm finally over the hump.

Also got into the top 40 scores on Retro Achievements for Pokemon Pinball (GBA)! Always feels good to go back and conquer your childhood demons. I bought this game as a kid and could never even get a local highscore. Look at me now Mom!

I'm thinking of picking this up. How is it?

I finished it yesterday, and I really enjoyed it. Even though it's not very long, I think it could have been a bit shorter and it would have been even better. That said, I had a great time completing the different quests and exploring the world. I found it to be very relaxing and interesting, and I kept thinking about how to go about the next mission and what upgrade paths I wanted to follow when I was not playing, which shows you how hooked I was. It's an easy recommend, I think.

Pretty much everyone here who has tried Dredge has liked it. I love it. I'm probably 80% or so through it, have not played for a while, but it's a comfy light horror game with excellent mechanics and an engaging story. Highly recommended.

I loved Dredge it made my GOTY last year i need to get to the DLC so i can pootle around some more unknowable horrors.

I am probably the exception: tried the demo, was really interested, bought it, and it just didn't grab me in the way I expected it to. (In contrast, I fell harder for Dave the Diver.) I think it is because I'm not much into horror games and found it difficult, at first, to push myself to take chances as tension ramped up.

I played Dredge obsessively for about a week or two until I beat it, not too long after it was released. Didn't feel like anything overstayed its welcome, but I don't feel like I need to jump into the DLC. I certainly loved the game and its mechanics.

The weekend came and went in the blink of an eye. I ended up dabbling in a few of my comfort RPGs... Cyberpunk 2077 on the Series X|S, Mass Effect 2 from the Legendary Edition and Nioh.

A little bit more time in Diablo IV but I think I'm petering out on the current season.

Bounced around between ARM 3 with the IFA3 WW2 mod and Dredge.

Spent a lot of time, almost 20 hours over 4 days, with Cities Skylines 2.

What are the benefits over the original?
I found the original to be the best modern representation of Sim City 2000 which I loved.
But City Skylines bored me after 4-5 hours

If it bored you, the new one will too. It's basically an upgraded version, with more realistic sim elements (Cims now have their own income and expenses and have to live within that, traffic modeling is point to point instead of just "appearing" on the roads, there's a different system of industry and businesses that again is more realistic...). But ultimately it's a sandbox game with some obstacles like natural disasters and, of course, controlling the city budget. For me, it's very chill but complex enough that I can do different things each time I play.

It does have games within games - traffic control, public transit, planning neighborhoods, maintaining and upgrading services, etc - but so did CS1. If you didn't enjoy that, this will bore you too. If you *did*, this is a significant upgrade on the original, and the DLCs will only make it better once they start rolling in later this year.
