What are you playing this weekend?

On a whim, started up Total War: Rome II and have taken out the Etruscans and significantly weakened Carthage.
Hades has finally clicked with me, and I put in 6+ hours today alone.

I’m exploring an open world in Forspoken.

God of War: Ragnarok and Chained Echoes.

Bought Dead Space Remake on the whim. Never played any of the previous games. It's great so far!

I've spent the last week or so playing Twilight Princess, and it continues this weekend. I stood in line for 13 hours for the Wii on release day, and bought Twilight Princess a few days later, since the Wal Mart where I waited did not have enough copies for everyone in line. I got pretty far into the game, but just... Stopped for some reason. No idea why. Since I played Skyward Sword HD in 2021, I figured I'd continue my campaign of either never-finished or never-played 3D Zelda games.

I have to say, I'm thankful both of these games have been so radically different from BotW, otherwise I would fear Zelda fatigue before Tears of the Kingdom.

The remaining unfinished 3D Zeldas I have are Wind Waker and Ocarina. I will probably leave Ocarina permanently on my list, because I have tried a few of the "rework" versions Nintendo has made over the years and I just cannot get past all of the... oldness. The visuals, the controls, Navi... It's all just too much. But I have played most of Wind Waker in the past, and while a lot of people complained about the sailing, I always enjoyed it - it was almost meditative. When I eventually get to it, I'll be playing the HD version anyway, as my understanding is that it includes some QoL improvements.

I remember that Wii release day. I was there but thankfully only waiting a few hours in the freezing cold (Chicago). A Best Buy employee came out and counted the people in line and the guy after me got the last console they had. So got pretty lucky I arrived when I did.

Kudos to Best Buy though they had everything very organized. Each of the release games were put on tables as the line moved past them. There were plenty of Twilight Princess games so even though I was right at the end of the pack I still was able to grab one.

But this post is timely too as I just started playing Wind Waker HD (Wii U). Been forever since I've played Wind Waker so I barely remember any of it. So far so good. It's definitely playable. But wow I'm spoiled by 60 fps. The game plays at 30 and its noticeable.

Twilight Princess and Windwaker are both so good!!! Particularly the HD versions on Wii U (Sad trombone).

Not to explicitly break any forum rules, but I am currently playing the HD version of Twilight Princess for Wii U, and will be playing Wind Waker HD, and I have never owned a Wii U...

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous extended edition.

Will be stuck on this, assuming I maintain momentum, for a several months.

Great versions. The actual Wii U gamepad with the screen DID make a ton of sense and work well for Windwaker in particular, but yeah.

I'll be delivering as many packages as I can in Death Stranding and helping a friend clear some bosses and raids in Final Fantasy XIV

As much Warhammer 40,000 Inquisitor - Martyr as I can. So addicted right now.

But I also need to break it up with some Star Fleet II playtesting.

Same.

And again.

Ayup.

After having done a few rounds of Old World with the Strategy Game Club, I'm mixing it up and finally starting to put some time into Monster Sanctuary, which has been on the pile for awhile. It's this interesting little monster-catching metroidvania, which seems to place a bigger emphasis on team composition and buffs/debuffs than straightforward damage, plus you need different monster abilities to access different areas. I'm only a few hours in but it seems really fun so far.

Continuing on with Legend of Grimrock for the cRPG club and also playing a bit of the new Freelancer mode in Hitman.

Co-op wise I’m playing Dying Light 2 and more Orcs Must Die 3 scramble mode (we’ve made it into the top ten on the world wide high score table!) For playing solo I was playing a game too similar to Dying Light 2 and the control differences were tripping me up so I’ve switched to Raji: An Ancient Epic.

Eivor!

More Monster Hunter Rise for me.

Surprisingly Elder Scrolls Online.

In the deals thread someone mentioned GMG has the High Isle collectors edition for $20. It contains all the expansions up to that point plus all the collector goodies. Last time I played the game was back in 2017 when the Morrowind expansion came out. I had a lot of slowdown going through there and stopped playing soon after.

Like the sucker I am I wanted to see how it ran with my new video card. An epic install later found it ran at 100+ fps at ultra settings. So got interested in the game again. In any case I talked myself in to buying the collection as it gave access to the Necromancer class, which I figured would be a good way to get back in to the game.

And man I'm in to the game again. The one thing this game excels at is the story lines. Each quest has been interesting. The other great thing about this game is all the flavor dialogue. In any given quest there are NPCs around that, if you're just following the quest, you would never talk to them. But if you do go out of your way to talk to some of these extra NPCs you might be surprised at all the dialogue they recorded for them. It really adds to the immersion.

The necromancer class is just ok. Honestly most of these classes seem to play pretty similar. Combat is not the most interesting part of this game. And you can solo easily with the class.

I do have to say the lighting is way outdated now and needs an overhaul. It could be that I'm on an earlier expansion (2018) and they did better lighting in the newer ones. But given ray tracing is pretty common now I'm really noticing when games lighting and shadows are lacking. I've gotten used to it but Summerset is such a beautifully created area and with updated lighting and shadows it could look amazing.

Otherwise though I'm having a blast.

It's getting repetitive for me, every time I post over in this thread hehehe. Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition will get some love, while Solatorobo will accompany me through my weekend commutes - this one has two whole quests/main gain narratives, one after the other! -, and I might take some time on Sunday evening to chip away at Return to Monkey Island which I am currently going through as slowly as can be since I'm just clicking around and piecing the solutions bit by bit.

Catherine: Full Body when the kids are asleep (and I should be too).
Escape attempts numbers 22 through....about 30 in Hades
Quake Champions as always.

Same as last week: Persona 3 Portable and Tomb Raider III. I'm probably not going to beat either.

Back to LOTRO, where there have been a lot of changes since I was last playing regularly. New toon rolled up for the brand new starting area, so all fresh content to me. Going to be solo all the way, so LM with teddy bear it is for now.

Still can't believe I've been playing this for 15 years.

Didn't you say you already beat TR? Just finish P3P already!

My problem with ESO is that there is so much content, it is overwhelming. Like I have no idea where to start in the story.

Full Throttle Remastered for me. It was about time I played this classic!

I recently beat TRI and II. Last weekend I managed to get past the section where I was stuck in III. But yeah, I should finish P3P instead...

With a new character you start in the tutorial area - which is different, and much better, from what I remember from way back when. Then you have access to a hub like system where you can choose whatever expansion/zone you want to start in.

With Morrorwind and Summerset you're dumped off in an area where the main quest for those story zones begin. Then you just pick up side quests as the main one takes you throughout the zone - each expansion is basically one large map with a bunch of dungeons or small side areas.

It sounds like they keep to this process for each of the expansions. I was planning to go to High Isle after I finish up Summerset and then work my way back through the expansions.

Bouncing between Journey to the Savage Planet and Desperados 3 while I decide what "big" game to play next. Both are pretty entertaining in their own way.

For the third time, I think I am close to finishing God of War Ragnarok. And I think I am right this time...

Dead Space Remake
The Callisto Protocol
Maybe a bit of Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge
