What are you playing this weekend?

Red Dead Redemption 2
After completing Red Dead Redemption 1 last week I just picked up RDR2 from the Epic Store sale including a $10.00 off coupon.
What a beautiful game and great story telling so far.

More Days Gone for me.

One of the best games that I have played this year. Enjoy the ride!

Thanks! I am having a great time with it.

So I splurged a bit recently and got an Arcade Legends Ultimate. This is the atGames retro arcade cabinet that has 300 built in games. And has the spinner and trackball included with the controls. For someone who grew up in the arcades it’s such a fun system. A lot of those 300 games are misses but there are a surprising number of really good ones. Plus I’m pretty happy with how the spinner and track ball handles.

But I decided to splurge a bit more and purchase from Etsy a usb drive that has the coinopsX interface with 7500+ games on it - which I got today. And it’s been pretty incredible so far. There’s several of the NBA Jam games, WWF wrestling games, Golden Tee franchise, Dragons Lair and Space Ace. Plus a ton of arcade games I had forgotten about I can’t wait to play. Playing Marble Madness with the trackball was a joy. Plus a lot of the light gun games work well with the trackball.

And there’s quite a few console systems emulated too. Even things like SegaCD and Virtual Boy. But it also emulates ScummVM so you can play the Monkey Island games, later Zork games, and a bunch of Sierra games.

So it’s been a bit mind blowing. And I know you can put together your own library of games but it’s too time consuming and so took the route of paying someone else to do it so I can just get to the playing. And so far worth it.

Gosh I'll admit to being jealous man as that sounds DELIGHTFUL.

The story’s quality continues all the way to the end.

I am having a blast with Bonfire Peaks. Best puzzle game of the year.

AC: Black Flag on Switch

ARR!

Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity released its last bit of season pass DLC so I decided to give it another go. Really into it this time round.

I got deeply into Drox Operative 2 this weekend, for some reason. Lots going on IRL and this is the ideal chillout game for me at this time.

Wonderful.

That sounds like exactly what I need right now. How does DO2 compare to DO1? I bounced off the first after about 25 hours, though I can't remember exactly why. I think it might have just gotten repetitive.

DO2 has a lot more to it that makes it far less repetitive, from more toys and quests, to more races to meet and unlock, to speedier gameplay, it just improves upon the first in every way.

Looking at the Steam pages for Drox Operative and its sequel, it sounds like these are Diablo-style ARPGs with a space combat skin? Am I reading that right?

Sort of. It's a spacey Diablo clone in which you play a mercenary while the AI plays a 4X game around you, and you can help each empire grow, or the opposite, or not help them at all and ignore them. It's really unique.

I played D1 but I never got my hands around it and it’s repetitive. D2 adds a huge amount of detail in gear, skills, progression, as well as race relations, quests, win conditions, and just about every other part of the game. Further, you can pick your difficulty starting each sector, so when you feel you are better than you were before, you can just pick a higher level start and go. At the end of that sector playthrough, you keep your ship, crew, skills and gear, and move to the next one. You also can choose general difficulty presets beyond just the level of you vs the enemies, and then you can add in special challenges. Further, the different races have different skillsets, so you can’t just go in and move to the same weapon and gear sets every game.

So far, I’m liking it a lot more than D1. That said, read all the tooltips and consult the manual when needed. The UI is a bit weird in some areas and there are some things you will only realize after playing for a while. And some things I don’t get, like if I use a tool to sort my cargo, my number slots get changed. But overall, it’s a great game with gameplay that is as forgiving as you want it to be and a lot of variety.

How is the co-op for drox 2? My friends are interested but hesitant as not huge fans of how disconnected Diablo co-op was.

Haven't played co-op in D2 but D1 was a lot of fun. You can all basically go off and do your own thing.

Do you compete to get the first win condition? How does that work?

Starting playing Pillars of Eternity on my Xbox Series X since the allure of playing on a couch is more enticing than in a computer chair.

I'm sort of missing the mouse and keyboard, but the port to a controller is pretty well done even so. It's obviously not perfect since this is an old school CRPG, but it's do-able. The scroll wheel adaptation they made to easily choose abilities in combat is pretty ok.

100% planning on playing Pillars of Eternity 2 on PC, though. I hear that game is longer and more in-depth than its predecessor, so... yeah. Time to hunch over my computer desk.

After that, we'll see if I touch Pathfinder, Wasteland 3, Divinity, etc.

My backlog is huge, and that's not counting the siren's call of replaying Disco Elysium now that the free Final Cut is out.

On the menu this weekend, two games that I will spend more time on but expect to drop eventually:
Tales of Phantasia (PS1) - Gameplay is fine, but the story is super boring
Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom (360) - It seemed great at first, but I'm losing interest really fast. Combat is not great, and the enemies respawn too quickly.

Wanted to get lucky in getting a lost ark beta code.. but nooo lol

So back to Ys and some FFXVI

I think I'll be finishing my Shadowbringers replay in Final Fantasy XIV. Not sure what I'll have time for beyond that!

Probably going to dive into Inscryption and possibly Drox Operative 2. Might start the new community expedition in No Man's Sky as well.

The hype is real

Definitely Forza Horizon 5 and probably more 3030 Deathwar Redux.

This weekend I plan to make some good headway on Guardians of the Galaxy before Blue Reflection: Second Light is released next week.

Hopefully people will be around to get some rounds in Back 4 Blood as well.

Visiting one of my sisters so we'll probably be continuing Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity co-op and I'll be hopping back into Animal Crossing: New Horizons for that sweet looking DLC.

This is pretty much me except for the sister/co-op

I'm deep into Ys VIII: The Lacrimosa of Dana with the JRPG club, so I aim to try to finish it, or at least get close. Beyond that, maybe Humankind, since the new patch just dropped, and it might be a good time to revisit.
