Tomb Raider reboot

I am family free this weekend starting Saturday AM. I'm hoping to gather folks for some Playground Games in FH2, but would love to jump into this, too.

Cool, that is 4(I have DrJekl on retainer for achievements of this nature). What time is good for everyone? I could do really any time!

Saturday morning sounds good - - I've had a helluva week, so I don't know how early, but if you see me on, drop the invite.

Between this, the Evolve Alpha, trying more Sunset, and just digging into Destiny more, I'm 'onna put the console through its paces this weekend...

Awesome guys - thanks for being available!

830 - 930 too early? Alternatively any time after 1230.

Oh hey, this thread again...

Turns out swapping between a controller and mouse+keyboard is simply a matter of moving your hands from one to another. There are no menus to fool with or anything. The on-screen button prompts even switch on the fly based on what the most recent input was. Once I started using the mouse for the shooting bits the game got a lot more enjoyable and I was able to finish it with little trouble. This definitely changed my opinion from "well, it was worth $4 to try out" to "damn, I got a real steal with this one."

I also appreciate how the climax of the game was more about traversal than combat, especially considering some of the gauntlets the game had put me through before. I was less happy about

Spoiler:

the final boss confrontation being a damned quicktime event, even if it featured a nice premier of Lara's iconic dual-pistols.

My wife and daughter are supposed to head out at 8am, so then or shortly after should work.

Perfect.

Is this one of those where you need M to lose? 'Cause that's my specialty.

Ha!

It is this one I really want us to get.

Just as a reminder - I will be on around 8:20 to start chasing you down:)

My wife and daughter are now leaving at 6am, so send me a message if you don't see me. My phone will get it and I will wake up, if I go back to sleep on the couch.

That was fun this morning! I was nice chatting with you guys while getting some cheevos.

That multiplayer really isn't bad, but man was it unnecessary. They are just modes that have been done better in games with a bigger base of players.

But it did get me back into the campaign, so it was good to jump back in with it.

Very late to the party, but we got this one for the XBox One as part of Christmas. I'm about 70% of the way through the story on normal difficulty. Big thumbs up!

Rise of the Tomb Raider hitting PC and PS4 "holiday 2016": http://www.vg247.com/2015/07/23/rise...

Edit: PC is "early 2016" not "holiday 2016": http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...

I wonder if SquareEnix is feeling like the negative publicity and fan outrage wasn't worth the money they got for exclusivity. I have both systems, pus a decent PC. I'll probably wait for the PC release but this has got to cost them sales in addition to the bad gamer mojo.

I don't think PC has ever been a factor in any "console exclusivity" agreement between third parties and the console manufacturers. The negative reaction from fans might've pushed the announcement to occur before the XO release, but I can't imagine there wasn't some ink in the exclusivity deal that specified the earliest date they could reveal release windows for the other platforms.

Well, seems like I will get to play it after all.
Which way is the best to show Square Enix not to make silly exclusive deals.
Buy the game on release day to show you wanted the game - but then you also show them their exclusive deal didn't harm them. Or wait buying it till some $5 deal on Steam. Punishing them, but maybe they will just read it as no reason to release for PC at all.
There is no way to win?

My guess is more likely the PC version isn't part of the exclusivity agreement, but that they would rather focus on the XBONE release that's funding them and then move over to the porting jobs.

It would be so interesting to see the details of this deal. The first TR sold 3.5 million at release so I'd guess not having it release on PS4 will cost them probably 2/3 of their sales at release so maybe 2 million copies lost? I would think MS would have had to pay at least $100 million to make SE whole. I wonder how many XB1s they'd have to move to make it worth it?

you do have to wonder. With the lack of exclusives, RotTR would be in a position to do much better on the PS4, in addition to larger install base.

My guess is that MS assumes that keeping any system mover out of Sony's hands. They have several, and should be able to market the XB1 as the best value and with the most games when stores have the most shoppers, with a lower ratio of executive gamers. With aggressive pricing, they could have a significantly better holiday than last season.

At least, that's the bet I think MS is making.

MS also contributed development dollars to the title.. much like Sony has done with some of its exclusives.. So in some ways the game wasn't getting made to its current level without Microsoft providing extra capital. While we won't know specifically what was going to get cut or not included it does bear reminding that these types of deals are hardly exclusive to Microsoft. Sony will do and has done the exact same thing.

Without knowing the details of the deal we can't be sure.. for all we know this is a multi-title agreement with Microsoft contributing to further development of sequels. As well I've seen these exclusive deals first hand and frequently language is written in that specifically calls for performance hurdles to receive the entire payout. If a title performs poorly then the exclusive ends up being worth a lot less.

Microsoft as the platform loser right now will have to sweeten deals more so than Sony.. Sony can play hardball using their leadership as a negotiating position but that's not to say that Microsoft doesn't have leverage.. Cash is king and even the largest Publishers will look to minimize their risk as much as possible. As we say in the PE/VC space the best money is always someone else's money. Right now the AAA space is about as risk averse as ever and thus your borrowing terms are awful.. You should see the borrowing deals we can get for our various Cellular Infrastructure companies since right now to any lender these assets are performing well above any comparable asset... blow away anything I've seen in the 14 years I've been in the business.. and that is owning 2 gaming development shops.

Rise of the Tomb Raider looks pretty great.

Mmm. Wanton archaeological destruction simulator 2015.

I'm feeling hype for Rise of the Tomb Raider coming to PC later this month. So I'll most likely be replaying Tomb Raider (2013). The multiplayer seems to be dead, I'd love to try it out though. Any community members into playing some multiplayer Tomb Raider this weekend on PC? What's the best way to go about setting that up? I have yet to play with any GWJ people.

wait, there's multiplayer?

So, did they tone down the death scenes in the Definitive Edition? I have this on both PC and XB1, but have been mainly playing on console. I do, however, remember some pretty grisly death sequences on the PC version, so I was wondering if anyone knew if they purposefully watered them down. Thanks

Death scenes have seemed less grisly, but are are still handled about the same.

I just spent 20 hours 100% the game and only found a couple of the deaths eyebrow raising. This was on PC.

It's a fun game. I have a bunch of problems with it but kept me entertained and was short enough to hold my attention.

Yeah, it's pretty dead though. There seems to be a few modes, but I've only found matches for TDM. There seems to be CoD-like loadout building and progression.
