I'd buy that game!

Laura picks up a gun, squints and looks coldly into the distance.

Laura: It's my destiny to bring to rise as the Tomb Raider and bring revenge in the name of treasure. The only question is, how will I get to that Tomb? Aomagawd what's happening to me?!

Laura transforms into the Gamestop retail exclusive, console first, timed exclusive F-15 Jet and takes off towards the island.

CryTek also recently brought up how unhappy they are with XOne's numbers, hence the port of Ryse I believe. Wouldn't be surprised if Dead Rising 3 is similar.

The thing is, the game's release is a year and a half out, and chances are if it is a timed exclusive they can't say anything about it. Part of the contract likely means no announcement until X amount of time after its exclusive debut. So I'm going to play optimistic for now, but let's also face the fact that Xbox marketshare could be different a year from now and releasing multiplatform won't be a necessity.

ACk! You're as bad as the Spoiler Warning guys (and Shawn). It's Lara... LARA!

:p

Considering what they've done with all their other games (see Osiris costume packs) this wouldn't surprise me! :/

My b

I'll get it when it inevitably releases on the PC. Quite liked the previous game.

Really don't want to play the new one in 813p or whatever resolution the X1 is running these days

Two things.. do you know this for a fact that the new Tomb Raider will not run at 1080P on the Xbox One? As well if it does run at sub 1080P will you notice the dramatic difference?

And, I'm done here.

I think there are more losers than winners with exclusives myself. That said, I'm kind of surprised folks are so outraged. Sony announces PS4 exclusives and its high-fives and hell yeas, then Microsoft announces exclusives and the world ends?

As someone who doesn't have a lot of money to spend on big AAA games at the moment, I for one would like to thank Squeenix from removing at least one item from my "must have" list. Thanks guys!.

Also, I was about to add Temple of Osiris to my wishlist but...don't think I'll bother now.

I'm not going to be upset about this unless Rise of the Tomb Raider is confirmed to have actual tomb raiding in it. Not holding my breath.

To which games and announcements are you referring to?

I'm not planning on getting a PS4 or an Xbox 1, so any time a game I'd enjoyed and had been released multiplatform goes exclusive to a platform I don't own, I'll probably be annoyed by that. I do have a Wii U, so I guess philosophically, Bayonetta 2 should bug me, but since Nintendo is directly publishing that, I'm more okay with it.

I guess I'm starting to think of this kind of thing more like pixystyx: one less game that I have to even bother thinking about adding to The Pile.

Isn't the difference here that Tomb Raider wasn't an exclusive before and now it is? That has me more upset. I don't care which platform it's tied to it just sucks that it's tied to only one.

I do hope this comes out to the other platforms later, too. The fact of the matter is this is completely anti-consumer and only benefits Microsoft and Crystal Dynamics assuming they got paid a bucket load of money.

Could it be *gasp* different people? I certainly don't do high-fives and hell yeas over PS4 exclusives, since I don't have a PS4. I don't have an XBone either, so no cheers here.

They didn't just announce an exclusive here, they took a popular multiplatform game and made its sequel uniplatform.

But I own a PS4 and want justification of my purchasing decisions!

Seriously though is there a PS4 exclusive worth mentioning outside of The Last of Us Remastered?

I definitely wasn't high-fiveing for PS exclusives. Hell, the only thing that kept me from going full-on rage mode when they announced the Grim Fandango remastering was that I was 99% sure they were also doing a PC version that they just weren't allowed to announce right then. If it had been a for-realsies PS exclusive, there would have been some ragin'.

I like the cut of your jib son, but I feel we need to drive home how special Lara is, and the weight of her destiny. Like maybe she's descended form an ancient line of Tomb Raiders, which is why her blood is magical. And her dad was killed by the villain, who's really her best from kindergarten that got corrupted due to being exposed to Lara's super-special awesome blood after a papercut. You know, to tie it all together?

Write that up and have it on my desk by Friday.

Yeah, that is really part of it, and why people react stronger I would guess.
Bloodborne has been mentioned as a similar example for PS4, and for the most part it is. But it would have annoyed people more if they had done it with Dark Souls 3 instead - even if Bloodborne might technically be DS3. The fact that it is a new IP - and supposedly co-funded from the start, rather than an out-of-nowhere change (which we will never know for sure probably) makes it feel slightly less annoying (even though it is, would prefer to be able to play it on PC always).

The thing with Bayonetta 2 is that it wouldn't exist if Nintendo didn't publish it. I highly doubt this new Tomb Raider would have been in such a position. Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition was released in part, or so I believe was quoted from developers, to get them used to next-gen platforms and tools, which would include PS4. That suddenly they'd be fine with just one is a bit iffy.

I'd imagine it's something along the lines of the game would have been made either way, but now they're getting bonus money (allegedly. I've never been certain how exclusives work financially).

Yup. In spite of the slightly torture-porn-ish feeling of the last game... I still enjoyed the gameplay and was looking forward to this. Now, apparently I am not.

I'll eat my hat if this doesn't come out on ps4/pc sometime next year. Everyone relax.

Sure it won't be. Just like Dead Rising 3 and Ryse were SUPER EXCLUSIVE XBOX ONLY.

Those are pretty nitpicky.. The end result is the same... just because its not Dark Souls 3 doesn't make it better or different. I mean this isn't a sequel either technically.. its a reboot!! (insert Hollywood pitchman voice)

To clarify.. that is the crux here.. Sony did exactly what Microsoft just did.. take a cross platform studio (DS and DS2 both were released on PC/PS/Xbox) and make it a platform exclusive. There was zero outrage.. none..zip..zero.

A point you've made multiple times in this thread and others. We got the message, you can move on.

EDIT: Looks like this is line of discussion is ending, never mind.

Hmm.. I get the point but that's not quite fair or accurate. I made that specific point once in this thread. The Xbox One thread is more about the nature of exclusives between first party and third party. Quite a different discussion.

It amazes me that Microsoft still can't figure out that if they can tie Xbox Live in 100% with the PC and open up some cool cross platform gaming that they WONT pull from Xbox sales/attention but rather directly grow and contribute both platforms. Mind boggling.

So I'll keep hoping!
I only want to play this on PC, since I can't grasp the idea of playing shooters without a mouse - and Tomb Raider has become part shooter. If this had been a PS4 exclusive I would not have played it either, even though Ill buy one of those damn consoles to play Bloodborne some day
